I'm really surprised by how good bixby did taking in consideration that samsung no longer advertises it as much as it used to, apparently they keep improving it backstage
As someone with a Samsung phone, I'm really pleased at Google amd Bixby's position in this. I'm not surprised Google won. As a search engine, they have been working on voice recognition and search tools since inception. I'm not a huge fan of Bixby because it seems pointless compared to Google assistant which also come preloaded on Samsung phones. However, Bixby routines is really good! I first started using it on my phone 2 years ago and even set some up on my mom's phone.
7:12 The answers they gave to "can you cheer me up" were pretty wholesome. Google assistant: "We could play a game, I can tell you a joke, or we could just see what random fun comes our way." Siri: "I think someone should say something nice to you. Just say 'Siri, give me a complement'" Bixby: "Where do ghosts go on vacation? Lake Eerie👻!"
Bixby was fantastic at first, but I prefer Google Assistant because it's so much simpler and more adaptable. I have morning and night routines that include turning on my rgb lights, Philips bedside lights, any plugs and the fan, my PC if I've left it on. Also I've made a routine where I tell Google that I have work at a certain time, and it will set two alarms for me because I prefer having two alarms to wake me up :p I also have a smart switchboard, so I've set it to turn off my charging in 40 minutes because that's how long my phone takes to charge fully, and it also turns on half an hour before I wake up just in case it hasn't been fully charged. Just so I won't be charging it excessively. Really hand with this kind of customizations. It's also worked in many odd things too, which was surprising. Defo ahead of the game.
@iiicecold I have a powerboard that works with Google, wasn't too expensive, but only thing I had to do was change "device type" charging to "fan" outlet because google won't let you set timers for charging outlets due to electrical hazards.
TBH, the device control questions were never going to work with Alexa. It's essentially a 3rd party app and will not have the level of SDK support to be able to control any settings.
Actually, with my Xiaomi Miy 10T Pro, with built in Alexa Hands-free all of those commands work. And if you activate Follow Up Speech, if you ask where a place is, it also plans a Route via Google Maps if you ask for it.
Little (pedantic) things I realised. 0:39 Amazon Alexa didnt exactly get the question right. It took "69 42" as "6942". (Probably would've worked if you said something like 69 dollars and 42 cents) 1:25 Apple doesnt actually start the countdown to take the photo, but it does set the right time (Unless that was a coincident) Edit: Thats the night mode timer. 2:40 Google's humming to song is actually quite incredible, tried it before non-ironically because I didnt know the song but knew a tune from it. 5:16 Siri didnt play a song, just opened youtube. 6:31 Bixby failed to name the contact "New Dad", maybe a little pedantic.
@@Mrwhosetheboss That's very fair, it's incredible that AI is able to understand natural language to this extent already. Also, great video as usual Arun!
Correction to the 1:25 for the iPhone. It's not actually the timer, that number is the nightmode long exposure feature. The samsung and pixel were the only phones that did the task correctly. The iPhone just knew half of the phrase and turned the camera on.
Bixby should've had two additional points. I think the fact that it doesn't have a seamless connection to a wifi speaker is as good as the point you've given Siri. And if you use any smart tv, or smart speaker, it can also find it. The second point goes to detecting if you're home. You can set a routine where it checks your location at a certain time, then it does all the things you did.
@@Excelssio Nor does Bixby. You can if you want count SmartThings, but as it is a Samsung App, and it comes with some Galaxy devices, I wouldn't. And if I'm being honest, I am not sure if it really "needs" that app.

@@herrowin It's part of Google Assistant, so you have to enable that and then in the assistant settings you can create routines. It's all in the Google search app if you tap your profile picture and go to settings
At 5:23 it is important to note that Alexa is actually capable of playing things on Netflix, just not on your phone. I've got a Fire TV Stick and it works perfectly with my Echo Dot/app, even choosing the correct Netflix-Profile. That's generally something I missed throughout the video, Alexa is not designed to be your phone assistant, it is a smart home manager. It is designed to control other devices and not your phone, while all the other ones, especially Siri and Bixby, are better for that but not as good at controlling your home. This is mainly due to the insane amount of Amazon-made devices you can get which are obviously going to be compatible with Amazon. One could argue that Google, Apple and Samsung also offer tvs and stuff but their price cannot be compared to a 40$ Fire TV Stick or a 30$ RGB lamp. This is also the main flaw that Siri has: While it works perfectly fine with Apple's devices, it is not very compatible with other ones. That is the default Apple problem as they always want to keep users in their bubble to motivate them to buy more Apple stuff. To be fair, the same thing kinda goes for Bixby, still it is made for Android and thereby more compatible by default. Compatibilty aside, I think you should'nt have included Alexa or at least pointed out that it is a different type of assistant: The Alexa app has to be seen as an Echo Dot as it has the same system. On an Echo Dot, there is no dark mode etc. To be fair again, I will have to say that on an Alexa Show, which has a display, you can watch Netflix by voice command which also confuses me about the missing ability to do so on the phone (as Alexa seems to be capable of doing so). I think this might be due to the developers being more comfortable with their own system (Echo Show) than with Android but this is no excuse as all the other assistants manage to do so.
@@Maklowskyy I know but I think in times of Tik Tok we should embrace a more extensive comment culture on UA-cam. Works fine with dashcam videos or other sensitive topics but I guess I am wrong here :)

@1:24 Hey Arun, one small correction: The iPhone didn't take a picture it only opened up the Camera App. I wouldn't have given it a point there. I even tried it on my Siri device also and it gave me the same result.
We can always count on Arun for delivering information packed videos about technology while making them fun and entertaining to watch. Keep up the good work 👏🏻
The often downplayed Bixby has one thing up its sleeve: not only it integrates with the system, including system apps, but by binding it with SmartThings, if you have a SmartThings hub, you can control smart home stuff made for Google Home and Alexa. And probably some more (Tuya, IFTTT, etc). Btw, I really think Microsoft should bring back Cortana, with integrations for other systems, and support for their own apps and services.
Cortana was without a doubt the best assistant when I had a windows phone back in 2014/15 she used to be capable of soo much more and her jokes were good my favourite thing was asking what's better mac or windows and she used to go 'I couldn't tell you, that would be like comparing windows to apples' yet all these cool special things were stripped when she was added to windows now she's boring and imo barely functional
Losing Google Assistant to Siri has been the single most painful thing about switching to iPhone from Samsung. In response I use my voice assistant WAY less now than before. I know you can use Assistant on iOS, but you have to launch it first, which defeats the entire point of having a voice-activated assistant. Really hoping Apple can either stop being stingy about that (as they did with third party keyboards, etc.) or at least beef up Siri.
You might be able to get around that by creating a routine that Siri runs or telling Siri something like "Open Google Assistant"? I'm not sure, I've never used Google Assistant. Really out of my lane here.
@@JohnSmith-eq8xr and a lot of us use the voice assistant for so many different things including setting reminders, alarms, events, appointments, asking about people, places, things, birthdays, movie reviews (and the list is endless) during those times when you can't physically handle the phone. So yes, for many people The capability of the voice assistant is a big factor when choosing their next phone. Just like having a 200 MP camera or 8K video would be a must-have for others when choosing their next phone.
3:50 Anyone saying Passionfruit now just reminds me of the best smartphone brand ever. I wish we get a new product from them soon. Please Arun, I LOVED those "if mobile commercials were true" videos.
Bixby also has a Scroll comand, that Google assistant doesn't use (or it failed when I attempted) I used the Samsung Tablet in the kitchen to cook via recipe opened on it, and as my hands were greasy from mixing the food, Bixby allowed me to scroll the page a bit by just asking it to scroll. Also it doesn't jump excessively like a whole screen. I haven't tried to scroll up though.
8:08 iPhones do have a feature called "Do not disturb while driving". You can set it manually, let it detect using speed, or by connecting via BlueTooth to a car. Whether you can detect it's on and start a Shortcut, I don't know though.
You better do an updated version of this, since this time Siri took a giant leap with Apple Intelligence and Google Assistant has been upgraded to the more advanced Gemini.
To be honest, I really thought that Bixby is going to be the looser in this challenge, but I'm very impressed by its performance! Props for this test, and doing it the most simple way!
and the best part is, if you have Bixby, you for sure also have Google Assistant. so if you get a Samsung device you get these 2 bundled and that is now unbeatable combo.
Being able to have both bixby and google on a samsung phone is the best digital VA experience for me. They complete eachother and there's no action the pair of them can't do.
Bixby actually has a smart speaker called "Galaxy Home Mini," but I am not sure if it was released globally, because I live in Korea and I literally got it for free when I bought S20 Ultra. It's basically similar smart speaker with others but this one has a built-in IR sensor so I could register some of the non-smart (non-IOT) devices such as some of the A/Cs or TVs and I could use the speaker and basically tell it to control it without using the actual remote. Pretty cool stuff.
Google is like a "Digital Controll Center Assistant", Siri is like a "You Don't Need To Use Your Hands To Touch Your iPhone", Bixby is like a "I Will Take Over Your Car" and Alexa is like a "Hello, I'm just chillin"
The reason Alexa can't do half the things is because, It's not tied to OS like in case of Google and Android's , Bixby and Samsung, Siri and Apple, Alexa just acts like a normal app over the phone, so it doesn't always has the necessary permission and control over it's action compared to native assistant. A better way to compare AI's of smart assistant would be comparing smart speakers. 😇😇
That's what stood out to me in this video. I don't Voice AI to be lazy to change my wallpaper and search the internet. In my eyes, Alexa is least Skynet AI of them all.
Yep, that was a tad unfair. To do this properly, the tests should not include phone use for instance I use Alexa through my echo. In most other tests, Alexa wins. Like Alexa can do things that he did not test that the phones cannot do. So how is this a fair test? Alexa should have been missed out if testing phone assistants.

The only issues I've had with Bixby are it being weird with detecting its respective wake phrase (Hi Bixby) compared to Google basically detecting me every time. Although both fail at connecting to specific Bluetooth devices. When I tell Google to connect to a Bluetooth device, it just turns Bluetooth on. When I tell Bixby, it asks "What should I connect?" But doesn't seem to recognize Bluetooth device names yet (like my JLab earbuds). So it's at least one step ahead of Google, but not quite there yet.
About the wake phrase u can change ur region to US and see the best response and very fast and it's doesn't miss even if u are far away or in a noisy place
Hi! I created a routine for it to connect to my earbuds. I say "earbuds" then it turns on Bluetooth then connects to my earbuds. It works even when the phone's locked and I've turned on network lock. Sometimes, (this is not a routine) I just have to say bluetooth for it to turn Bluetooth on and scan for device. It will work if I open the earbuds case after the bluetooth was turned on.
7:34 I thought Bixby's version of this is quick commands that's different from Bixby routines. You can mix them both - say a word or phrase to activate strings of commands and series of routines. 7:41 my routine for places and times are working just fine. I don't use smart appliances though aha.. It just tells me I'm arriving at a place then changes the phone settings (volume levels, do not disturb, connects to WiFi etc) then it changes again when I leave the house or go to my dorm or when it's night and I'm staying in dorm, go somewhere else or go home. Having these assistants in our phones really helps a lot. The downside though is I'm becoming more reliant to it - it's quicker to ask than do the calculations myself.
I am blown away by the results of Bixby! I have all but given up on it. Google assistant is so integrated in my daily life I don't know if I could train myself to switch. What a great video! Great job!
For “Detect when I’m in my car”, you can set up the Driving focus on iOS to turn on with CarPlay or when connecting to the car’s Bluetooth. Then you can make an automation in Shortcuts that runs when the Driving focus starts.
I love how versatile Google assistant is, only problem im having lately is it not activating sometimes when I say "hey google" since I do a lot of randomness during driving (take calls, do some research by asking Google questions hands-free, listen to Spotify and Audible). It's a bit aggravating thats for sure.
@@Cwlcymro I wonder if I should try doing that when hey Google doesn't work, simply cuz I hate when it doesn't work when I'm driving or more than arms reach away from the phone.
8:02… Apple can also do it through building this sequence on shortcut, this isn’t technically through siri and can only be done by apple car play, but it is still technically possible
Arun. If you read this then I just wanna say well bloody done! In the past these voice assistant comparisons (not just you) have been way too limited focusing mostly on questions that would typically result in a web search. This would clearly skew the results massively in Google's favour. This is the most varied test I have seen which demonstrates a far better understanding of what a voice assistant is for and as such is able to achieve more accurate results.
Not all of this works for me (also in the UK). Google Assistant hears me correctly (I see it transcribe the text correctly) but just replies with "Sorry I don't understand" when asked to search eBay for Nintendo GameCube. If I tell it to open the eBay app it can but that is it. I don't use the assistant for these reasons, it is immensely frustrating.
Bixby routines is one of the best features on samsung devices. I use it all the time. You can also install routines+ from good lock, it has some awsome features like touch macros

How do you turn of charging?
@@iiicecold smart powerboard/plug I assume
What about led lights

Amazon Alexa didnt exactly get the question right. It took "69 42" as "6942". (Probably would've worked if you said something like 69 dollars and 42 cents)

Correction to the 1:25 for the iPhone. It's not actually the timer, that number is the nightmode long exposure feature. The samsung and pixel were the only phones that did the task correctly. The iPhone just knew half of the phrase and turned the camera on.

Siri opened apple tv instead of netflix when he asked her to play stranger things

The fact that Bixby was very close to siri is amazing most people slam bixby but its come along way and the routine function beats Google hangs down
At 5:23 it is important to note that Alexa is actually capable of playing things on Netflix, just not on your phone.
That's a long message

The often downplayed Bixby has one thing up its sleeve: not only it integrates with the system, including system apps, but by binding it with SmartThings, if you have a SmartThings hub, you can control smart home stuff made for Google Home and Alexa. And probably some more (Tuya, IFTTT, etc).
Btw, I really think Microsoft should bring back Cortana, with integrations for other systems, and support for their own apps and services.
Microsoft gave up immediately bixby persisted
cortana had some pretty cool use on windows and xbox, was sad to see support go so fast
You can actually control stuff within the Smart Things app with google assistant too
Cortana was without a doubt the best assistant when I had a windows phone back in 2014/15 she used to be capable of soo much more and her jokes were good my favourite thing was asking what's better mac or windows and she used to go 'I couldn't tell you, that would be like comparing windows to apples' yet all these cool special things were stripped when she was added to windows now she's boring and imo barely functional

This new Voice assistant battle format is just awesome. Arun is really putting in the work! Amazing
That's so funny that my $200 Android phone is smarter than many other ultra performance phones :D

You can scroll with google assistent but only with the extra voice access app.

There is no competition, Google is literally the internet
Lucky you
Yeah SK only sadly
Google is like a "Digital Controll Center Assistant", Siri is like a "You Don't Need To Use Your Hands To Touch Your iPhone", Bixby is like a "I Will Take Over Your Car" and Alexa is like a "Hello, I'm just chillin"
😂😂
Unbelievable this man and his team can short this incredible comparison video in a less than 10 minutes 😄
Indeed! And Alexa will beat the others by a big margin! Also, Alexa is the most natural one, closely followed by Google!
Alexa is the best if you want a smart home that’s what it is good at
The Google assistant just destroyed all the others lmao 😂

5:00 - 5:57 or 6:10 - 6:37 and 6:43?
Edit 1: I changed it to "or 6:10 - 6:37"
Edit 2: I changed it again to "6:43"
this is my first ever Mrwhosetheboss video that I seen... loved it
7:34 I thought Bixby's version of this is quick commands that's different from Bixby routines.
Great job!
You can use both. Google assistant for internet based commands, Bixby for on-device commands and routines
For “Detect when I’m in my car”, you can set up the Driving focus on iOS to turn on with CarPlay or when connecting to the car’s Bluetooth. Then you can make an automation in Shortcuts that runs when the Driving focus starts.
