Or if you are giving away your echo dot or moving to a new house it's important to know how to reset your echo dot so you can clear the information you have on the device below you give it away.
There are 4 buttons on the echo dot, the + volume button, - volume button, mute button, and the action button. To reset the Echo Dot you need to press and hold the "action" button for 30+ seconds until the yellow light comes on the echo dot and it goes through its light sequence and you have confirmed that the echo dot has been reset.
once the echo dot is reset it will start back up with a blue light and announce via voice that it is ready for set up.

Great info and thanks. We changed wi-fi modems and set up a repeater. Alexa would not operate my smart home devices at all. It would not recognize the server. I tried everything I could think of. You just saved me another headache on a different day!

like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

Great tips!! This was a great video. But I have another problem. My older sister and I both have Alexas and mine is connected to hers somehow. Like when I play music it stops and calls me up all the time to say, “it’s playing on mine.” We tried fixing this issues before, but nothing we thought about worked!

My Alexa got soaked with water . left her to dry out for couple of days including powered off on radiator. Did reset now she is back working . 😊

I liked the video. I was searching for if I have one dot in one room and a separate dot in a second room can I mute one of those dots and try to go to the other dot and drop into the dot with the opposite dot?

Thanks for sharing. I switched to a different router and it was driving me crazy trying to get connected to it. I could see my old router in the settings but there was no option to choose a new one, really annoying. You would think Alexa/Amazon would prompt you that you might need to reset the device before you can connect to a to a different router system. Not sure if this is the case for everyone but this was going to one of their own systems, i.e. eero mesh network. I tried the first reset and it didn't work, maybe due to my app on my phone still active while attempting the reset. At any rate I deleted the app then went through the reset process again as shown in the video, took about 2 minutes to finally get it clean. Re-installed the app, old router was gone and it connected fine to the eero after that. Another 1 1/2 hrs. wasted due to poor documentation and/or available help. Thank goodness for folks like you and UA-cam as technical support now days is joke.

My gen 2 dot powers up to a solid blue ring. The action button does nothing. Unlike the gen 1 this hockey puck has no apparent external reset botton.

Nope, when you reset it can be set up on a new account without needing to deregister.

I have second gen mines not responding to anything if I hold the power button it go’s to a plan blue ring bug if I don’t it has the greenish small ring god around then shuts of then dose it again it dosent response to the reset and I tried the paper clip thing but it still didn’t do anything I don’t know if I did that wrong or not help would be appreciated or is she just broken? Like forever
Figured out the problem, the cord I had wasn’t giving it enough power, so just switch cord hope this helps someone

the easiest way i have found is when your echo dot is switched on just hold the action button until you hear it say your in set up mode.then on laptop or computer just google amazon alexa login then go to that site and login with your account then its really easy just follow the steps from there to set up your echo dot or other device you have got you can even pair devices from that alexa page once you have logged in
