This is an “aria” or solo sung in the last scene of the opera Turandot composed by Puccini, an Italian composer in 1924. He was considered one of the greatest composer of operas. Pavarotti is playing the part of a young prince waiting for the father of the woman he loves to give his blessing for marriage to his daughter.
Luciano passed away in 2007 at the age of 71 from pancreatic cancer. He is not sitting down. The conductor is on a platform so all the musicians and chorus can see him.
The difference between Opera is all music, no dialog as is in musicals. Normally in Opera the singers are NOT mixed. This is a concert and the only reason he is double liked is for recording of the performance. Yes he is standing for the best breath control. Pavarotti was the very best Tenor to hear.
Opera singers is to good to talk about. They are on another level. He's my #1. #2? Nobody... Many millons of americans knows and loves Opera, but they are the ones that demands top quality in life.
Americas is so far behind when accepting other nations' music, but music is a universal language. We, as americans, need to keep our kids educated in the classical arts music, shakespeare, opera, I love phantom of the opera. My favorite musical😊.
If you want opera tickets, I recommend Savonlinna Opera festival in Savonlinna, Finland. But you gotta hurry, it is almost on, and often booked full. The operas are sung in this old stone castle, that got awesome acustics aswell as awesome looks, and ofcourse the nightless night of the nordic summer when the sun doesn't go down is a magic on itself. If you go, take me along, I always wanted to go! I'll happily be your local guide.
Conductors are working from a raised platform. That may be why you think he was short. Most thought he was far overweight, but the truth is, he carried a whole orchestra and chorus in his body.
Thank you for the video. Yes, opera is definitely underrated in big parts of the States and some other cultures. The difference between opera an musical is mostly that there usually aren't spoken parts in an opera ( there are some exceptions - with Mozart for example). Musical in general is classical singing and music, kind of with a "pop vibe". Opera singing is a lot more technical and I'd say "refined". With lots of similarities between both. But please, Sir: Do not interrupt "The Master" in the middle of a phrase!!!!! One simply doesn't do that. He is an absolute legend, as you might have discovered by now. If you are interested in trying something jolly: react to Kate Lindsey as Cherubino (Mozart - La Nozze di Figaro) singing "non so piu". Such fun!!! Best regards from Germany!
A musical is like Oklahoma, South Pacific, My Fair Lady, Brigadoon. They are plays with songs (arias) added to help the plot or convey an emotion or idea. Operas are plays that are most of the time completely sung like Turandot, Die Meistersinger, Rigoletto, most of The Barber of Seville.
L'opera è stata una prima rappresentazione teatrale musicata e popolare. Se dopo oltre 200 anni resiste qualche valore c'è. Hai una bella voce se ti alleni per una decina di anni puoi diventare un cantante di opera
Best to look up definitions of Musical vs Opera. Opera is an older form of storytelling, all singing. Operettas developed after and with some speaking scenes along with singing. Musical Theatre (at first) used a similar classical singing (now includes all types). However, scenes were more integrated into the story. The basic rule I was taught to understand Musicals: performer speaks until speech isn’t enough… then they sing (and the dance). Hard to say who greatest singers are. Many different types. Great singers use the same tools!
I see the UGA flag behind you so if you are near Atlanta check out the fox theater. They not only have an opera series they have a Broadway musical series each year that they have several shows throughout the year. You can get decent tickets for about $75. Also check out the three tenors.
Pavarotti is just God's voice. Best singer ever in any genre. No one can sing as him maybe Plácido Domingo or Montserrat Caballé, nor even Maria Callas, Mario del Monaco, Withney Houston, Beyoncé or Adele
Buena reacción, gracias por los subtítulos. Te recomiendo que reacciones a O Mio Babbino Caro con Andre Rieu y Amira Willighagen. Saludos desde Ciudad de Guatemala en Centro América.
You need to view Aretha Franklins version at the 1998 Grammys where she last minute agreed to cover for him and then also if you really get a wild hair: Pavarotti and Barry White’s First, Last, My Everything.
Go to library and rent the whole turandot video or especially Aida by guiseppe verdi. Turandot is puccini. Bizets the pearl fishers in french. Thats my favorite.
Try not to pause music poetry or movies. It breaks the mood. .. im a classically trained pianistband opera lover, but i also play in a rock and roll and blues bands and im 64. Still learning. My roots are in opera and classical though. Musical is usually in English and talking too. Opera is all singing unless its a comedic opera like "The barber of seville". You'd recognize the music because some of the music is from warner brothers cartoons. America is so far behind
Surely you are enjoying Pavarotti but I do suggest that when it comes to this type of singing you try to contain yourself & just let it run through. Opera is a pretty serious thing & opera buffs are very serious about opera.
People have to start somewhere to learn, & to say his "ignorance on full display" is not nice. Maybe you know opera & Pavarotti -- not everyone in the world does. At least those who are unfamiliar open their minds to learn.

MAJ, you have got to react to James Brown and Pavarotti, “It’s A Man’s World” live. It’s one of James’ biggest hits!
The whole opera can be seen this wednesday through movie theaters across the country through metropolitan opera company
He's not sitting down - the conductor's raised. He's standing

Oh dear. Please look up the opera "Turandot" and read what the story is about.
This sounds pretty "silly" compared to the work involved here.

Pavarotti and Bocelli, nothing else compares. Check them out with Zucchero Fornaciari.
