Nessun Dorma is one of the most famous opera arias for tenor voice.
It was written by Giacomo Puccini and it's a part of his opera called 'Turandot.'
These two versions represent two different worlds, styles, generations and music personalities. @AdamLambert this incredible voice and music talent of the current day who is able to confidently perform with @Queen embodying voice of the one and only @FreddieMercury and @LucianoPavarottiOfficial the man, the myth, the legend.
I'm really curious to hear what do you think about this clash of two musical generations and worlds of classical and popular music.

A bit unfair to compare the two don't you think? Pavarotti is a HIGHLY TRAINED opera singer who ONLY SANG opera. Adam is a trained singer who only took opera for a year in his teens & never sang it again until that night during the Queen concert in Italy...and he NAILED it...much to the delight of the audience. Adam can sing many genres of music...pop, rock, blues, jazz, even country, and yes, opera...don't think Pavoratti ever did that. TY for the vid, though...just keeps proving to me what an exceptional singer Adam Lambert is! ❤

Totally agree and I mention it towards the end that saying that one is better than the other is quite silly as it's two totally different worlds and generations for that matter. I also love them both for different reasons and don't expect Adam to be equally versed in Opera as Luciano is and vice versa, but it's fun to see them side by side.

      My comment is this--
I love Pavorotti, he is magnificent & authentic !!
He is what opera is about & love his high notes! Plus he is Italian & could sing opera like no other!!
As for Adam Lambert, I love his voice, I love his high notes too. He sang opera very well but he didn't have the authenticity that Pavorotti did !! I agree with your assessment that Adam was for show whereas Pavorotti was singing as if he was living the song!
I loved Adam's voice especially the high notes but it lacked the amazing
sound of Pavorotti's living the song as if he was going thru it himself!!
Adam who has a great voice sounded like someone going to Italy trying to put an Italian accent to his words but it only sounded like someone trying to sound Italian but couldn't make it! Do you know what I mean?

Adam Lambert said on the Jennifer Hudson's show that he took Opera for one year in high school because like ballet is the foundation of dancing, that opera is the foundation of singing so that's why he took the opera class. Adam has never wanted to be an opera singer but Brian May heard Adam warming up before the show with that song and asked him is he could sing it. He said he could but it's basically it is a song he just likes to use to warm up with before the show. Brian May knew Parvarotti so this was a solid Adam did for Brian. Adam never had any interest being an Opera singer ever.

I was at the concert in Bologna on July 10 and took a close up video with excellent sound. Regarding the inclusion of Nessum Dorma in the Italy 2022 set list, the story is that Brian heard Adam warming up his vocals with Nessum Dorma in rehearsal and suggested that he perform it as a tribute to the opera's homeland. Note that in his high school years, Adam took opera singing lessons for a year - elements of this are the breath control and more. vocal techniques. Labeling him as a pop singer does not reflect his versatility. I wonder how I survived this spectacular performance! ua-cam.com/video/jgCObudnbQo/v-deo.html

I'm a fan of Adam, he can sing any genre and his singing always seems effortless. He didn't particularly train Nessun Dorma for this performance, it was decided at the sound check just before the gig. I think if he practiced it, his performance would be even more perfect. Adam Lambert has always noted, with his usual catalog, how he 'has to grow into a song', especially with songs that are not his own, like the Queen songs, for example. Adam is so good at it from the get-go, that we often don't appreciate how much additional work a singer feels that he needs to put into a song, before he is really comfortable with it. When you later, after years, go back to listening to an older version, and start comparing it to a newer one, then you can see or experience this growth that has taken place, but initially, it is hard to believe that a singer like Adam, would or could improve.
Here we are dealing with a complete one off performance, in a genre that requires a very different singing technique. Far from comfortable, Adam has to think about sound placement of every note, use this operatic style, when his vocal apparatus wants to jump back into what is the more natural to him at this point. In addition, he is on stage in Italy, in front of a musically inclined audience familiar with opera; he has sung rock, funk, pop, ballads, whatever Queen throws at him for at least an hour, and now he is singing this to an audience that does not expect this at all. He starts a capella, and then gets a bit more help from Brian May, as he goes along. And he awes everyone.
Pavarotti, on the other hand, while awing everyone too, of course, has been singing this piece for whatever 30+ years at the time of this performance, and could do this aria in his sleep probably.
Imo, the fact that Adam is even being compared to Pavarotti by an experienced vocalist, shows imo how incredibly talented, as well as versatile Adam is. Of course, Pavarotti has an edge in perfecting this here...nobody is doubting that. But it is also clear, that if Adam were to put his energy into this genre, he could achieve top level status, and sing at every opera house he would want to, that is how good this guy is. The fact that he is not interested in that, is a different matter. Any other pop singer, you would compare to some local opera singer, made a few technical observations and be done with it. With Adam, you have to pull the top world talent to have anything to compare it against.
To add to the topic of being versatile: Adam got significantly closer to a serious classical performance with this little stunt in the middle of a two hour rock concert, than any effort I have seen from Pavarotti to cross over into pop. And there were a few attempts. The vocal technique is just very different, and it shows - in Pavarotti mostly.
Adam's versatility is absolutely mind-boggling. And no matter what genre, he always gets compared to the 'Greats': To Freddie, to MJ, to David Bowie, to Elvis, to Sam Cooke, to George Michael, to Nina Simone, to Robert Plant, and so on. He does not get compared to the flavor of the month on your local radio station. If he does their songs, he quite often outsings them at their own material.
Thank you for making this video, it is actually interesting to see how much quality and depth Adam has in his voice, that he can stand up to such a comparison. I am sorry, you got into trouble with the y t -police, and hope that this video stays free from such problems. This was a fun video.

Pavarotti was tuned for opera -sang more technically right and the diction was way more better. Overall impression at the end-hes closing eyes -shows internal satisfaction that he performed the last notes like he wanted.

I do not believe it is unfair because there is no comparison they are doing two different things, and no one expects him to be a classical singer he is bringing opera to the masses if a few people in that audience sought out the original he did what he was hoping to do.

silly to compare, Luciano Pavarotti is the best male voice of all time, never mind who. trained for 7 years without performing, had the most natural beautiful voice of all time, had huge resonating chambers, perfect diction, consummate control he had it all never needed to push or struggle he just measured out his perfection in perfect control.

To be fair there is an age difference. This recording of Pavarotti was done when was nearing the end of his career. One must go back and hear Pavarotti sing this song when he would have been the same age as Adam. is recording his version of the song. Plus, I am sure the sound system for Adam was much more advanced than when Pavarotti sang. A comparison such as this is pointless because all aspects to develop the comparison are not equal. This takes nothing away from how fantastic is Adam.

I grew up loving Pavarotti. I also love Adam Lambert and Queen. But I’m thinking it’s like comparing soufflés and grapefruits. Pavarotti was one of the greatest operatic tenors to ever sing. Adam clearly has had some classical training, he has the amazing range it takes to sing anything Freddie Mercury could sing-and do a great job fronting Queen. But as you say they’re whole different things.
That said, there was a whole thing where people who aren’t opera singers tried their hand at Nessun Dorma. I see you haven’t checked out Home Free yet (and you very much should), but there’s also a video of two of the members of that acapella country group giving it a shot. It works better if you’re familiar with the group and know what the guys usually do, but you should def check their version of ND out at some point.
AND it looks like you haven’t checked out Dimash yet. You really have to do that. Start with SOS-that’s the best gateway song into his music. Once you get to know him, check out his recent duet with Placido Domingo.

Not a fair comparison, Adam did this on the fly, Pavarotti does opera! No surprise he's the best, Adam, did a great job, of course he's playing it up, it's just a warm up. He didn't have that big orchestra behind him to make the performance full. It's not a fair comparison. Sorry.

I think Adam & Pavarotti are #1. You can not compare them. Pavarotti has sung Nessun Dorma more than Adam has been alive. I thought Adam's second verse sounded the "most correct and full" like Pavarotti.

It’s a poor comparisom because of the difference in entourage. Pavarotti had a professional classical orchestra backing him whilst Adam Lampert didn’t. Also the recording of Adam was very noisy surroundings. So I go for Pavarotti, but Adam is a gifted singer.

Since the first time I heard Adam Lambert sing I have believed that, had he chosen to take a different path with his music, he could have been counted among the great legends like Pavarotti. I've always been disappointed that he didn't because I believe his voice is incomparable. His work with Queen does showcase it, in my opinion, better than his solo work, which to me is rather unfortunately forgettable. As far as these two performances, well, Pavarotti is in his element, of course. But the very fact that Adam's performance (and I agree with your assessment that that is what it was) can even be played side by side with Pavarotti himself just shows how undeniably talented Adam is. I remain disappointed, however, that he did not choose a different path.

I usually enjoy Adam Lambert, but I didn't love him singing this. What people seem to be describing as sounding free or effortless, to me sounds like he's not quite in control. That's relative mind - compared to LP, not to me!But I kept thinking he was about to lose it and I thought there were a couple of almost -dodgy notes as well.

Not quite sure why youre comparing the greatest vocalist of the 20th century to Adam Lambert, while i will readily admit Adam has a phebomenal voice he is not anywhere near the league of Luciano and his diction really needs a lot of work. Diction and pronunciation in Opera is just as important as the vocal quality.

@@FaanaMusic please do. He’s almost at 1Million subscribers. He’s a young (32-33?) UA-camr from Brazil and can sing anything from metal to broadway to opera. He does covers (over 230 now) on his personal UA-cam but is in a metal band called Fearless. He is classically trained, his range is incredible, and his breath control is amazing. His cover of Black Wind Fire and Steel, he holds the last note for 30-32 seconds. In amazing grace he holds the last note for at last 23 seconds. He is truly gifted and most definitely could be on Broadway. It shows in his covers of Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera and Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar. He’s turned down record deals due to the constraints they had in the contract so he said no. He mixes and produces all of his covers and records them in his garage. Well by now he may have changed that but he at least used to.

I was interested, I listened to him, some Queen covers and no, he is not better than Adam. And don't forget that Adam sang Nessun Dorma almost without preparation, live, in the middle of the concert. DV sings it in the studio, which is a huge advantage even if he didn't edit the recordings afterwards (which we don't know).
