Crazy to think about. A laggy turbo 600+ horsepower beast of the 80s, with a 5-speed manual, no power steering and no ABS. The balls on Stefan to put down a lap like that with traffic. 40 years later it is still talked about regularly.
They owe it to the engineers that built it to send it round a dry track in good conditions. Heck if you watch the lap there’s a section where’s there’s mud on circuit and he lifts off dropping speed from 250kph to 200kph when he could be flat out.
I mean the ID.R was literally 100 km/h slower at Döttinger Höhe and still it beat this. Just goes to show how much more important aero and lightness is over crude POWAAAHHH. Colin Chapman must be turning over in his grave... But I guess that's what you get if you sell your soul to the Chinese.

yeah but the battery energy wears out VERY fast. in the car screen you can see agreen bar which truogth the lap is wear out and in deep braking zone it fills (so i suppose is the battery indicator), 80% of that bar was drained at the end!
@@francescomartelli9226 Just some numbers for you. From the news, it got 70-kWh battery pack. So, you can pull the juice out 70 kW for 1 hour, or 140 kW for 30 min. and so on. For this, it drains 80% = 56kWh in 6 min 24 sec. So, it would be smth like 500kW of power on average the whole lap. 500kW is smth like hundreds of average houses power usage.

Give how stripped out that thing is, with insane aero and slicks the fact it was only 6s quicker on a DRY track in comparison to the AMG ONE which did it on a damp track with parts of the track muddy and on Cup 2’s really speaks volumes of how good the AMG ONE is. AMG need to send it round once more to really show what it can do, they owe it to the engineers that built it.

But rumors are this Evija will also be followed be (relatively...) lighter weight smaller electric coupe and sports sedan models, which I'm good with if Lotus does eventually put those more fun to drive cars on the market.

There is no way they ran with 1972hp and managed no more than 343km/h on the straight. You'd need insane aero to create that much drag and that aero would mean much higher corner speeds. I suspect that they didn't run on full power, because the battery probably can't handle an entire lap of running at that power.
One day, the human brain will be overwhelmed by the power and speed of these new/next gen cars. One day we will have Tool Assisted Speedruns (TAS), like in Trackmania Nations Forever, because only AI will be able to cope with the ridiculously small amount of processing time left for our brains to execute each maneuver during a track record.
VW ID R only reached like 245km/h max and still was around 20 seconds faster. That shows how there's still potential to get much better times the next years
It also weighs something like 700 kg less than the Lotus, so I don't think the Evija will ever hit the cornering speeds the ID.R can achieve. It would be interesting to see if they can match the ID.R laptime though. Ultimately the Evija is eventually going to be sold in small numbers, so it can't just have a small 45 kWh battery like the ID.R, but needs a bigger 90 kWh battery (accounting for some of the weight difference) so it has decent range off the racetrack.

It's a track only car on full slicks. I think the weight was a big issue. It's not light for a track only hypercar. That tends to be the side effect with all electric vehicles though.
wtf this is so damn unrealistic, dude the reglement will collide with thousands of ways how the car is built, with the power ofc, woth the fact that its electric, what class should it be in and most importantly, how do you think they will recharge or cool the car for THAT long
the car has a 70 KWh battery, really not a lot for the power it produces. Having like 2000 hp, about 1470 KW, it means that this car can go full power for about 3 minutes before fully finishing its battery. Sure, the battery recharges during braking but the car still accelerates a lot more than it brakes. Surely then, it's not suited for endurance racing.
For comparison, the IDR used 25 KWh for its attempt, but it also has less than half of the power of the Evija. I'm not sure the evija can even complete 2 whole laps of the ring.
