These are the final clips for this month! Hope you enjoyed and I know uploads have slowed down a little as of late! I am expecting big reveals this month so i am preparing myself for that as we'll have plenty to talk about in the coming weeks now that Ashes of Creation have announced their upcoming Server Meshing Preview! Come follow the stream: www.twitch.tv/Narciverse
Many years mmorpg gamer here, I just recently discovered your channel and I must say I love listening to your takes on things and your ideas!! Great video, I'm so hopeful for Ashes of Creation.
it would be cool if mayor can make task : "Go and clean the mines of moria the production of stone stopped." you clear the mine and the production restarts giving node again production, or maybe if it is infected or colapsed player get task to remove debries or enemies and bring it back to normal 100% production rate or even request players to gather # of stone and you get request to go gather them to bring back for reward
I would like to add an additional idea. If you improve the quality of resource gathering in some way. You might increase the production rate above 100%. Upgrading or adding temporary resources to increase the gathering temporarily might be fun too.
That rogue idea was golden! Really hope that will be a thing. As you state, this idea is built upon already existing systems, and that is what makes it so strong. I must add that you had several great suggestions in this video, I feel it's one of your best ones. :)
They should add a scryer profession that can use special equipment in a science or magic node (depending on how the scrying is done) to look far away. This could be in the form of looking at other node stats to using an ability like eye of the hawk in wow to look at any region/dungeon from far away. This could even be used to spot world bosses from far away. These scryers could also be used on large ships in the crows nest.
This game will have the same problems as its predecessors: - Nodes and highly sought after areas will be taken over by massive guilds & bots - If you are a solo player (like me) you will NEVER experience most of the content the game has to offer - After few months the game releases players will find out the most meta builds, races and classes. Meaning that they will only accept these meta built characters in raids, events etc - Servers will be overloaded during the first months because of streamers and other cancerous media influencers - Marketplace will eventually be controlled by massive guilds & bots signaling the final downward spiral MMO's just don't work.
On your second question, AoC can see from how many chose to defend the node, how difficult to make the attack, and lower it when fewer defenders are on line, and crank it up when there are more available.
I remember the mention of node mouse-overs on the map. The information mentioned was node level, type, citizen numbers, main focus, and treasury numbers.
The rogue and stock warehouse idea sounds really neat. Would love to see all classes get some sort of really interesting class fantasy minigame that can be utilized similarly across ashes many base systems
I would like for ashes of creation to look at a specific game I love dearly for the resource gatering and production gameplay. The Settlers 7 has the most complex version of resource gathering and production of all the settlers games currently. I would like it to have this kind of economic depth in this MMO. Needing woodcutters -> sawmills to create planks for building materials, miners/stonecutters -> for stone blocks, so you are able to go in more depth with that material as well. Food (to improve production percentages or some survival benefits maybe). Ores to smelt (smelt coins or tools/weapons). Needing storehous(s) to store the resources needed for the city as mentioned in the video. The mayor this way would be managing the city in more detail this way too. Trying to manage the resource and production paths and keeping productivity high. I would be jealous not to be a mayor if that would be the case.
In regards to the need to defend goblins, possibly a threshold of difficulty/ numbers of attackers is pre determined but if the defenders over defend, the numbers are increased to create a more difficult engagement, potentially this increases rewards too. Just a quick idea:)
For the goblin attack you can reward the player for a successful goblin defense, give them a token they can turn into the board for the equivalent of a job board task
On the topic of "Rich get richer" mechanics: I dont think they Mayor having a flying mount is one of those, if only because the biggest source of profit shown so far are the caravans, which cant fly or be towed by a flying mount. The flying mount is probably there moreso for political purposes, like meeting someone across a large distance to discuss a treaty or something. Or to act as a sort of shocktrooper, patroling to help their citizens out of a jam or that kind of thing. I think mayors are supposed to be the "Richest", but they also dont get to use their riches for themselves as much as a standard player. The Mayor has to ensure that production isnt faultering, that bandits are taken care of, that quests are going out to players, that buildings are being upgraded and upkept, they have to organize supply routes and politic with nearby nodes. They dont just log in and go questing, killing, and chilling like most players.
The intensity of a coin monster coin attack should be fairly easy to manage. Im sure a simple calculation of players in zone , levels of said players and the node level would allow the devs to maintain a 24 hr or longer event at whatever intensity they desire. Modern server tech is moving ever closer to these kind of events being managed relative to players online in real time.
Moreover, if the rouge does the espionage, they receive a debuff where if they die it’s really fucking bad, that way, interrogating them capturing them and ransoming them over could be much more organic, maybe the debuff extends to the home people in some way.
Not just very few players will be mayors, what % of player will ever be a citizen in a level 6 node? You remember after about 3 years of WoW, we were amazed when Blizzard released information that less than 10% of players had ever set foot in MC. People forget how difficult WoW was when it first came out, without add-ons, and most everybody completely unfamiliar with the genre. I started in January 2005 and I didn't get to 60 until September. It was 2006 before I got fully geared in blues ready to take on UBRS/Onyxia, finding a guild and start attunement for MC. If Intrepid can make levelling up and PvE, genuinely difficult again, then PvP will also be genuinely fun again. I hope getting a node to the point a raid becomes available, is going to be both a challenge from a PvE and PvP perspective, and one that a lot of players will struggle to achieve. I am not a good player, and I don't need the challenge of being mayor, or having a flying mount. I will get more than enough enjoyment from just setting foot in a raid, or being a citizen with a freehold in a decent level node.
I don't know about "extremely difficult", I'm just more concerned that there is a significant impact if your node fails to defend. Maybe they build their forces outside the node slowly, sending in periodic waves(every day), until eventually your node is just destroyed or you clear them out(clearing them out should be extremely difficult, i.e. commanders that stay in the camp are elite minibosses) It would add not to the strategy of sieges(if the invasions aren't at a set time anyways), but it would add to the interest. "oh shit, our siege is starting and they've already under attack!"
Id love to be able to make a thieves, assassins or even spy/espionage/sabotage focused rogues guild. Some more hard core guilds could expand outside their own nodes and become an actual world level power that exists outside the node system. Start by creating multi node infirmation networks for political info and espionage and help members fet into key positions. Imo it would be pretty sick, rogues from various nodes working together to try and wield power from behind the scenes. Maybe have a few run for mayor (obvs without anyone in the node knowing the candidates allegiance is to the guild not the node). Probably going outside the worlds parameters with this line of thought.
the rogues for the storehouse mini game idea should also be skill based, so not any rogue could do it. Also it should be a mayoral quest that has to be given... maybe tie it in to the monster coin system. you could initiate a monster coin raid to cover up the rogue espionage.
I was thirsty for a cope-a-cola, and along came the premier dealer in copium drinks, Narc. how ya doing, buddy? I think Narc is like that last Imperial Japanese soldier stationed on an island, still holding his position, waiting for new orders long after the war he was fighting was over. AoC is going to come out someday, Narc says, as he stares into the middle distance at a future only he can see. He sips more cope-a-cola Yeah, someday.
why not player made quest board and it can be made by officers and the mayor ofcourse, where they put the mission + the reward from the city storage or their own, that can make the game Sooooo Alive
I feel like the major system should allow different ways of government. If you make a mayor lvling system you get a monarchy or oligarchy. I want weird nodes that get different systrems like some guild of friends that elect the player that has more nut food items in their bag as a mayor
Awesome..... I hate how "sandbox" became just empty contentless building games .... UO was a sandbox yet still had content and npc cities etc ! I miss those MMO days when I could just go buy a new sword without hours of crafting
You could do something fun. For minor cheaters you could put a month of constantly being flagged for PvP and people don't gain corruption for attacking the cheater on sight. Maybe make a town square where cheaters have to spend a few real life hours in the stocks before they can play the character again. Players can throw rotten fruit at them or something.
@@lionelwhiskerknot I think encouraging any form of publicity for a cheater would form a positive reward loop that would make cheaters see who could get the coolest punishment, which might not be a good thing. They should just get banned and have all their loot drop onto the ground
One thing I was thinking about regarding mayorship and such. Since you probably want an active mayor, someone who's playing the game constantly, someone who's active with the community of the node. Wouldn't it make sense to have a contentcreator be a mayor of a node? Lets take this a step further. Would it be OK for a mayor to start requesting real-life donations to make up for money lost at work becuase you're playing Ashes of Creation? So you start getting paid for playing the game and being a really great mayor, would that even be allowed? Is that considered P2W?
"Rich get richer mechanics" are exactly the number one problem this game will be running into 1 -2 years into it's release cycle. It happens to every. single. MMO. Why? Because every MMO just copy/pastes modern econonomic functions from the real world - a fundamentally severely broken system - into their games. Then when the exact same thing happens to every MMO that happens in real life - market concentration, wealth inequality and then hoarding and inflation - they throw up their hands and say "who could have predicted this!"
Isn't there content about Ashes of Creation that can only be made before Alpha 2 comes out, that would be meaningless after it comes out? The type of content that only Narc can make? But I know he wasn't rewarded for making them...
i'm gonna have to agree, new world town board idea sucks. how about an official office that has commissions presented by an npc for a little bit more immersion one for common crap and one for mayor specified jobs. and each time you get more slots as the mayor, per what you were thinking, you would have to build it up (so it goes from some npc standing behind a crate to an npc sitting behind a large desk) ... so yea, boards suck. and while we're at it, how about town criers.
