I totally agree on the ore scarcity, and I have a nice cope theory to rationalize it. The riverlands has a ton of lumber, but lacks sufficient ore. When the desert comes online in phase 2 I can't imagine that zone having many trees, but you know what it might have? Tons of ore. This would create natural trading partnerships between riverland and desert nodes. You bring wood to the desert, sell the wood, buy copper with the money, bring copper to the riverlands, repeat.
And as a mostly pvp play I hope this makes a game system where pve players need to group with a pvp Player like me to come in and protect them while they farm
Dearly hope this is the case. It would also introduce the act of people specializing in professions relative to their node. You won't have someone become an expert miner where there is hardly any mining to be had.
Hasn't Steven expressed this exact vision for resource scarcity and trade? I think you are spot on. I would expect ore more from the Mountains but maybe for the alpha it comes from the desert.

Hey narc. Not sure if you have already tried but i know in pirate softwares guild discord they have a diplomatic reachout system via tickets. Maybe it would be possible to reach out to him via that for your communications needs.
From the time I've played I think the starting experience needs to be completely redone, players are hanging around Lionshold for to long, node citizenship should be probably available at level 5, and a curated set of quests to get players acquainted with basic systems and headed out to the node of their choice. (I know this is not the focus of the testing so far).
Looks good so far. Although I am only seeing yours and Pirate Softwares POV so far, and synically I really doubt normal players will have the same experience as streamers. People won't congregate and speak, people won't join discords to squash toxicity when the game is released etc.
I really only like the combat. To me, the riverlands feels like a bunch of verticle slices used for monthly showcases cobbled together with randomly generated UE5 terrain. At the very least they need to abandon the dynamic road system so they can handcraft the way the vistas around them to make the world feel more alive. As of right now, traveling on the roads reminds me of playing daggerfall.
I hit level 10 last weekend and got my citizenship in Winstead and now leveling isn't a huge priority for me so this weekend I will be focusing on working on my gathering artisan skills and trying to get my hands on some novice gathering tools, hunting for some quests to test and progressing our node, although I won't have as much time to play this weekend because of some real life commitments I'm sure I'll make some progress.
I had high hopes but the more i see, the more it looks like a wow clone but without the 20 yrs of refining and polishing. I was hoping they'd try to carve out their own identity
@Vsg45 just look at the class design, they just completely ripped off everything from wow , they are carbon copies of the wow classes, just without the talent trees, so they're actually WORSE, cus wow has had 20yrs to dial it in. Im not sayin this in defense of wow, im sick of wow, im just disappointed they thought they'd make a wow clone 20yrs later and expect it to compete. And then they're also catering to the pvp audience which only ruins class uniqueness, cus that crowd is always whinging about balance, everything has to play the same, everyone needs an interupt, a stun, a mobility, a defensive, and a cc. Everything just becomes a cosmetic choice, there cant be any racial advantages, all stats and abilities must be locked to gear. It's boring. Pvp players ruin immersion of mmorps, and the devs will cater to them, just look at how they changed things with the asmongold situation. If you're hyped for it, great have fun, but why not just go play wow? It'll feel way more polished and refined
@thisismychannel607 I play wow... how many great sword priests you see rolling around? Warrior will always be generic in any game, so will ranger/hunter. There are 64 classes and you compare the basic archetype to flushed out 20 yr classes from wow? Atleast do some research
@@infinitely-random literally on the wiki and also math, 8 arch types you a choose a 2nd later in game 8x8 = 64. Tank+cleric= paladin class. That's 1 example
Anyone playing this rn, do you think it'll be a game for someone that can be semi casual, I can't game every day but I get in probably 10 ish hours a week of gaming
They have the lead writer & narrative designer that worked on ESO for story content in that game so hopefully AOC is pretty good story/lore wise. Guy also worked on SWTOR for 3 years so that's a good sign as well.
Thats great to hear. Thanks for sharing. I loved how SWTOR did storytelling and honestly prefer the story delivery of SWTOR over the delivery of FF14’s story.
@@nicolefrench2968 i feel like no one actually enjoys ff14 and its a huge scam made up by bots. i tried my best to like that game and it feels like every dungeon is a cutscene simulator. back when i played pvp wasnt even on your own character... you had to control a doll that had like 2 attacks and they tried to pass that off as mmo pvp. i hope it isnt still like that at least rofl
I just hope the gameplay loop in the game when it is finally finished, is not very repetitive. Repetitive gameplay loops burn me out and I end up quitting mmos.
I was expecting a longer video. I am hesitant to play as a find myself burning out on games that are in alpha/beta phase and then end up missing out on a more complete experience because I spoiled too much of the game for myself. I'm on the fence about supporting the game at this time because of that.
@@slayerofdiablo if you are on the fence then dont buy it, it is in a testing phase and it makes sense to wait a little bit to see how it is going. I like to read the dev notes on the forum to see how it is going and how much progress it makes and if the progress makes sense for the phase there are in (at the moment mostly server etc.)
I've been looking at as simply testing. to be honest I haven't found the alpha to be especially enjoyable. combat is fun, but there's only so much mindless fighting I can take. there isn't really a reason to engage in combat currently other than just to grind levels, which aren't enjoyable to me. crafting isn't enjoyable at all currently. what's there seems to function well enough, but it's not enjoyable. I admit, I had hoped for more in terms of crafting and expected combat to be lackluster at first in alpha 2.... turns out they did the exact opposite.
The corruption system as it currently stands and the general world pvp have been very disappointing for me so far and I hope they change. Currently I feel absolutely no danger running around in the world fully laden with loot. There are no indications of who is over carrying things. I would suggest some system like Mortal online 2 that shows your mount more laden with bags if you have a lot of materials in inventory. Maybe even make the mount slightly slower/change animation. currently world pvp feels griefy just because people train mobs in grouping hotspots to steal loot bags on ground and because combatant mode turns off so quickly you really have no recourse. It's biggest flaw in game for me right now and it feels like quite a big systems wide issue.
Hey Narc thanks for covering AOC ! I didn't played the Alpha but the part where you say the dungeons feels meaningless you say you would like to see quests. In Mo2 wich is full loot pvp mmo with many default but also greats qualitys the dungeons are places of intreste simply because the bosses you kill here drop extremly valuable ressources. I agree the dungeon in the current state doesn't look good at all but im not sure adding a quest will make them interesting i think the dungeon itself must be compelling and motivate you to come again and again without any quest. A quest will give fake reason to clear the dungeon once then it's over you never come back.
its phase 1. that was a weird comment for him to make since i'm sure he knows phase 3 is when actual storyline and quests and stuff are priority. its more like ironing out mechanics rn than giving soul to the dungeons hehe. like half of the quests that are available are broken and impossible to complete. most exp is gained from grinding open world dungeon type areas. its mad fun tho hehe
Tbh bro I just hope Ashes is a success, more so for your sake as your whole content creation and youtube channel is completely based around the success of this game. You deserve it in other words.
The combat looks extremely good for a 25 years old game! The total rework of the combat system is very obvious. I'm glad that they stated that it is the final version and there won't be any more rewamps.
As long as people focus on “gaining levels” (instead of having fun), MMO’s have no chance to innovate. Not even AOC. It is not a problem of the MMO’s, but of the players.
Scarcity of resources is a design decision. There obviously needs to be tweaking done to ensure it strikes a good balance but I don't think it is intended for you to be able to just casually run around and easily obtain everything you would need to power through your artisan skills and likewise node and settlement advancement at the same time. I very much enjoy that fact. Verra is not a land of abundance and there is supposed to be conflict bred from that design.
As much as I want this game to do well, as much as I want your channel to grow, this all feels to me like a lot of... copium. You can really see all the effort and ambition put into the game, but there is still something off about combat, animations, art style .. it's just not there.
Pretty sure each biome gonna have atleast 1 rare type of resources (dessert will lack plants for example i would say) unfortuently seems riverlands is rare on ore which normally wouldnt be an issue if we had more than a single biome :p hopefully with phase 2 tropics or dessert will have common ore in them
what if the ore had a chance based on ore quality to have additional ore underneath so once ur done tapping you would expose another ore vein underground which would almost terraform a small hole in the ground. This would reform over time similar to how im guessing trees do
@@pepelaugh3993Silly question to ask someone with 100 hours on a barebones game. Clearly what's available is fun enough for said player to keep playing after this many hours.
As a solo player I would say the game *CURRENTLY* does not entice to play much after 100 hours. Let me explain: I'm very interested in professions and they lack the most right now. The game GREATLY feels like you can grind mobs for faster & better gear than anything you can craft, and that XP difference between the activities is *INSANITY* . Its known that the crafting system is in absolute infancy and that's ok for now. (I'll certainly go ham once it's more flushed out) I enjoy a good story and that won't be started till phase 2. Quests are the most aggravating thing in this game as it currently stands. The only quests easily done are harvest [X] amounts from commission boards. Personally I have spent a many a hours trying to do quests just to end with nothing accomplished. Even the kill [singular rare mob] quests dont proc completion with one that I've tagged and killed probably 7 times. I have done several open world dungeons but these just feel like group mob grinding. I understand that early bosses should be simple but mechanics as a range dps is non existent. Let's see some ballsy moves from some of em eh? With all of this said I still feel confidant that once 1.0 is released in 3+ years it will certainly be a game high majority of players will want to sink time into.
@@Rasmanit How is that a silly question? Its a genuine question as im not a keyholder myself and just wondering what people are currently doing in the game.
I do not understand how people can spend money on entering this alpha without knowing about the node system. Have they not done any basic research of the game at all and just blindly buys in?
Taxation... is not theft? I don't know how i feel about it, i thought games were supposed to accurately represent lived experience of California people
I partially agree as I'm partially a libertarian. But libertarians would also say that it depends on the scale. People run their households as communists, so it's ok to pay taxes on a community level and in ashes you get to pick your community and corresponding tax level.
after spending 40 hours in AoC, I can say that it was a huge mistake to play this much... as now, I literally cannot enjoy any other game, I just want to go back to verra, to play with my guild to interract with randoms I met on my travels between POIs, I havent felt this way for a very long time, and I hope that during this development process Intrepid will not mess this up and upon release the game will be even better :)
For so long I've been waiting for a game like this I've played and enjoyed many mmorpgs but would always leave after 100hrs in since it wouldn't satisfy this itch I've been trying to get ever since I learned about the world of mmorpgs so many false promises, games that failed, or fell through the cracks but not even 3 days ago after learning about AoC that itch is nearly gone. And I haven't even gotten my hands on Alpha 2 yet this game achieved everything I ever wanted to see in a mmorpg even though its STILL in alpha. I plan on getting a Alpha 2 for phase 2 and spend my entire holiday playing it thank you for the amazing video also you deserve way more subs.
vyra is also has a building on every village and a good community working together. I don't know about the EU servers but resna is the only server I heard that is actually suffering
Played around 10-20 hours on the first weekend. Biggest issue I ran into was constant lag and disconnecting making it hard to grind. Hope this alpha does provide the right testing to get the servers stable.
Tbh I kind of expected Narc to be memeing so hard that playing on his server would be annoying, but him and his guilds have actually been a pretty responsible and chill part of the node political interactions, testing in good faith. Lyneth is the best home.
Kind of sound like the lack of resources on the map may be intentional. Maybe then it would spur the node vs nodes warfare in the future of the game in just the wanting to build up your city and expand before a neighboring node can block your expansion. If the world were to be a utopic dream land of resources I doubt there would be much conflict. Just like the real world scarcity inherently makes value and time to resources gathered is a is a commodity that loses strength if there is to much supply or no longer a need for said supply. Finding that balance is a tough challenge I'm sure the Intrepid Team are up to it though
It makes sense. The game has been in development for years. They need funds to continue. Hence the joke at the start of the video about the game never getting full release.

(I know this is not the focus of the testing so far).
100% I felt totally aimless until guildies came and picked me up.
Same, I'm level 8 and still have no idea how to do any artisan stuff
That was a fun fight :)
I had high hopes but the more i see, the more it looks like a wow clone but without the 20 yrs of refining and polishing. I was hoping they'd try to carve out their own identity
Pls by all means explain how this game looks like a wow clone
@@infinitely-random wiki and on the website xD wtf it's literally there on archetypes section
How to attack a player that is citizen to same node as you so they have a light blue name? is it possible?
Anyone playing this rn, do you think it'll be a game for someone that can be semi casual, I can't game every day but I get in probably 10 ish hours a week of gaming
My problem with this game is it is almost impossible to play as a solo character.
@@nicolefrench2968 i feel like no one actually enjoys ff14 and its a huge scam made up by bots. i tried my best to like that game and it feels like every dungeon is a cutscene simulator. back when i played pvp wasnt even on your own character... you had to control a doll that had like 2 attacks and they tried to pass that off as mmo pvp. i hope it isnt still like that at least rofl
funny how game die before even reliese
Seems to me if the population of this game ever dwindles it will just die if social stuff is so ingrained with every part of it.
high taxes are nice but Goodluck keeping players in that node for long.
When will we get this game
No time to slow down, must beat everyone in alpha testing, no excuses, must be better than everyone else
what year is it? 2015?
The combat gameplay looks like every other MMO so I'm worried that I'd probably play for a month and bounce off.
You're literally the worst type of MMO player.
because that combat takes 5 seconds to make, lazy developer who just wants money. the game is junk.
@@carl5939Why are you watching videos of a game that u think is junk?
Combat feels great. You can dodge roll, sprint, and manually block. The abilities feel impactful and the visuals are pleasing.
@@ninjacuttingonions5861 why are u?
What server are they on?
Lynyth the Streamer Server
I just hope the gameplay loop in the game when it is finally finished, is not very repetitive. Repetitive gameplay loops burn me out and I end up quitting mmos.
The keyword in "gameplay loop" is "Loop".
It is by nature repetitive, especially in the day and age of hyper efficient min maxing said loop
you hope there's enough variety in activity to keep you engaged. in my 1 weekend sample i feel like it's gonna be there for ya my guy hehe
People are too afraid of actual sandbox games but it's what they're asking for
A game that will never release? What is that about?
I was expecting a longer video. I am hesitant to play as a find myself burning out on games that are in alpha/beta phase and then end up missing out on a more complete experience because I spoiled too much of the game for myself. I'm on the fence about supporting the game at this time because of that.
@@slayerofdiablo if you are on the fence then dont buy it, it is in a testing phase and it makes sense to wait a little bit to see how it is going. I like to read the dev notes on the forum to see how it is going and how much progress it makes and if the progress makes sense for the phase there are in (at the moment mostly server etc.)
If they nail the combat / raiding too... Could be promising
"Quest HUBs" pls no, quest board is more than enough
Valheim music in background?
The combat looks extremely good for a 25 years old game! The total rework of the combat system is very obvious. I'm glad that they stated that it is the final version and there won't be any more rewamps.
what is the max guild size so far narc?
did he just say he achieved lvl 20 in 30 hours ?? what how lmfao
His simo Army helps ifc
Go go Narc grats 🎉 for 60k!!!!
Gz finally breaking 60k
As long as people focus on “gaining levels” (instead of having fun), MMO’s have no chance to innovate. Not even AOC. It is not a problem of the MMO’s, but of the players.
My interests in this mmo has died
Scarcity of resources is a design decision. There obviously needs to be tweaking done to ensure it strikes a good balance but I don't think it is intended for you to be able to just casually run around and easily obtain everything you would need to power through your artisan skills and likewise node and settlement advancement at the same time. I very much enjoy that fact. Verra is not a land of abundance and there is supposed to be conflict bred from that design.
Happy 60k 🎉 :3
Viva la resistance! Overthrow Narcs tyranny!!
30 hours to hit level 20 is steep? What?
"Haych-Pee" *vomits*
As much as I want this game to do well, as much as I want your channel to grow, this all feels to me like a lot of... copium. You can really see all the effort and ambition put into the game, but there is still something off about combat, animations, art style .. it's just not there.
Flying mount physics look kind wack
only 0.001% of players get to use a flying mount, aka streamers and guild leaders. amazing design right.
@ big oof
I'm glad to see aoc using server meshing. As a coping star citizen backer it gives me hope our server problems will eventually be fixed... Maybe lol.
You're high on ...
I hope this is pre pre pre alpha graphics. Looks like a cheap mobile game or like wow vanilla
i only had time to play a tank to 14 and a mage to 6 , gonna hope to get some more lvl this weekend
This would reform over time similar to how im guessing trees do
Gloria victis was peak
Simple answer as someone who has clocked in roughly 100 hours. Yes
What is there to do tho?
You guys only have 100 hours?
@@pepelaugh3993Silly question to ask someone with 100 hours on a barebones game. Clearly what's available is fun enough for said player to keep playing after this many hours.
As a solo player I would say the game *CURRENTLY* does not entice to play much after 100 hours. Let me explain:
I'm very interested in professions and they lack the most right now. The game GREATLY feels like you can grind mobs for faster & better gear than anything you can craft, and that XP difference between the activities is *INSANITY* . Its known that the crafting system is in absolute infancy and that's ok for now. (I'll certainly go ham once it's more flushed out)
I enjoy a good story and that won't be started till phase 2.
We are not supposed to be having fun!!!!!! We need to get it working!!!! The beatings will continue until morale improves!
Resource bosses will be cool as well to kill and mine
A variation of Golems to kill and mine, could be a good idea!
Burnout when I get 12 hours a week to play? I just want the 5 days a week phase 2
looks great. I look forward to playing this someday. I would guess full live release sometime around 2028?
Taxation... is not theft? I don't know how i feel about it, i thought games were supposed to accurately represent lived experience of California people
I partially agree as I'm partially a libertarian. But libertarians would also say that it depends on the scale. People run their households as communists, so it's ok to pay taxes on a community level and in ashes you get to pick your community and corresponding tax level.
Great video. I wouldn't have gone with the Valheim music like you did, it's very offputting.
after spending 40 hours in AoC, I can say that it was a huge mistake to play this much... as now, I literally cannot enjoy any other game, I just want to go back to verra, to play with my guild to interract with randoms I met on my travels between POIs, I havent felt this way for a very long time, and I hope that during this development process Intrepid will not mess this up and upon release the game will be even better :)
You're absolutely coping. Most of the content is still on the internal branches. Saying this shit just makes you look unhinged.
get that hache P brother
Do you have to buy each alpha?
vyra is also has a building on every village and a good community working together. I don't know about the EU servers but resna is the only server I heard that is actually suffering
bro did not stay engaged indefinitely 💀💀💀💀
Played around 10-20 hours on the first weekend. Biggest issue I ran into was constant lag and disconnecting making it hard to grind. Hope this alpha does provide the right testing to get the servers stable.
Wtf is "Haych p" ?
But I’m a solo player soooooooo 😢
real question is when this game come out.
You need to make games for ppl with ADHD or the game will die, thats how online games work now.
doesn't look like the next big mmorpg to me, looking forward to League of Legends mmorpg though in 2030
An mmo with the LoL community playing would be completely toxic and trash. the game will fail, as it should
Tbh I kind of expected Narc to be memeing so hard that playing on his server would be annoying, but him and his guilds have actually been a pretty responsible and chill part of the node political interactions, testing in good faith.
Finding that balance is a tough challenge I'm sure the Intrepid Team are up to it though
nice clickbait paid video.....on your streams your always saying the game is dogwater and suddenly you changed your opinion drastically. paid actor
Grind if ultimate fun! It's even more fun when you pay 120$ for it to test game 🤣
It makes sense. The game has been in development for years. They need funds to continue. Hence the joke at the start of the video about the game never getting full release.
@@ThePenguinsKing Steven say, that game is fully founded!
60k! Let's go! I've been in for 1 week and I'm going through Bard withdrawal....
It drives me crazy that they don't have a in game friends list yet.
