I think the PvP always on is going to drive away a lot of casual players. Most casuals what to jump on because they only have limited time to play, do their thing and get off. With always having to worry about other players jumping you over and over and over, it just won't be for most people that don't like PvP to begin with. This is unfortunate because I think AoC could have been one of the biggest MMO's to come out for a long time. I know it will start out strong but, I think they will lose a lot of players to PvP once it really gets going. I could be wrong and hope I am but I think it will end up being a niche game in the end.
You were right about Ashes being a niche game without a doubt. Its combat system won't attract today's audience since they're copying combat systems from classic, outdated MMOs. It's going to take off like New World did, but it'll be around 10-20k or less, until that changes and they adapt to the demands of today's players. There is a lot to do in ashes, I think casual players will need to pick a aspect of the game to focus on. If you want to make progress had to where hard core can spread out quite a bit
My only problem as a casual player is the subscription. I know it’s how most, if not all MMOs work, but I don’t always have time for games, or I just don’t feel like playing them. What if I pay for a month of gametime and something comes up where I can only play like 3 hours? I’d like a system similar to WOW where you can pay the subscription using in-game resources (I know, it would let botters basically play for free, but still, it would help players who need the money).
Valid concern, especially since it’s monthly. You often don’t know if you’ll have the time in that period to get value from money! Steven made a clear statement for this model, where he agues that if they fail to deliver entertainment, people will just not subscribe. That’s very true to me 👍
Great video. One thing, though, you said going corrupt “ increases your chance of dropping items upon death”. That implies you always have a chance to drop items upon death. There is zero chance a non corrupt player can drop finished items upon death. 👍
Be good if it did though, imagine if there was a 1:1000 chance of losing some equipment on death… death could have real consequence, that gives an emotional reason not to die. The reason paintball is better then laser tag. There is a real consequence for getting shot with a paintball, it hurts. Imagine respawning and discovering that prized piece of armour is no long yours.
Depending on the gear slot, it would be sooo punishing. But I do agree, absolutely have some features that will make you feel like in a paintball match 😂
@@keyboardoracle1044 Death is already punishing enough. Just to explain why to those who don't know, here's what will happen on death: You don't lose completed items but you will lose materials, accrue EXP debt that gives you stats dampening and reduction of loot drops from mobs. Non-combatant suffers 100% of the death penalty rate while combatants gets a 50% discount. Getting hurt doesn't always have to be in the form of losing equipment.
Casual players WILL have a place, nodes need xp, and every bit helps. Just wandering around and gathering things to sell will be great. casuals are needed.

Any limited time real world clock event is NOT casual player friendly. Anything that changes the world is NOT casual friendly. Both of these do nothing but cause casual players anxiety and feeling like they are missing out. Even worse if they try their best to get a certain outcome but the other side wins, now they feel like they've failed PVP is not at al casual friendly. Never has been and never will be. Even if you are not losing items on death it is still nothing but unnecessary anxiety. Diverse class system is good for casuals? You're nuts. That doesn't help or punish in either way. Crafting isn't good for casual players. Their option is either invest a lot of time or they won't contribute much at all or they only log in a little and then they feel like a servant of their server just providing iron for the main players to go to war.
@@Lazy_Tavern Sorry if my post may have come off as overly critical but plenty of games have pitched similar "casual friendly". Yea, we could contribute the low level resources but they were already done by high level crafters. And fighting the low level enemies didn't do anything to affect stuff. It's like saying the casuals in Helldivers 2 make a difference, they do not. And using both Helldivers 2 and Istaria as examples... timed real world events just make you feel like you either must log on often to see stuff or that you're missing out. I wasn't logging on for Helldivers 2 so one day the bugs don't have flying enemies and the next day they do. I completely missed the part of the gameplay story about how the players actually caused them to mutate by completing missions over like a 3 day period.
No worries, I’m honest with the fact you share your point of view! I assume you are afraid of exploring, and just wondering around, just there to be ganked? If that’s the case, I think the corruption system will play a big part in this. Hopefully enough for the PVP players to bitch about it 🙈😅

then what is the point of attacking non combatant? in albion terms its like ganker in redzone killing non pvp flag playe for their loot but if non combatant or combatant not dropping any loot, then theres no poin of killing them other than grieving?
This is correct, and in theory the system is there to make sure there is no point in attacking a non combatant. The idea is to ensure you can fight off people who contest your purpose.. Let’s say for a valuable resource or a mob or dungeon, that you want to get to before your opponent. You then have the option to do something about it 👍
One thing that I think all players need to wrap their heads around is that the game is built around nodes not guilds. Guilds do not own nodes, The citizens of a node do, and effectively each node is a faction. If you gank citizens of your own node (if that is even possible), or allow them to be ganked, then you are hurting the progress of your node, the story arcs and content of your node and ultimately blocking your access to better gear, progression, services and augments. This is not a game where the PvPers will fight PvEers, or the hardcore will fight the casuals, because it will be one node against the other and it will be very difficult to exclude one type of player from a node. Even if you could, the PvPers wont have a lot of time to PvP, if they drive away all the PvErs and casuals from their node and have to spend all their time PvEing to gather materials and money to maintain the level of the node. I honestly think AoC will be very casual friendly, not because the game caters to them but because they won't hinder a node by taking up a slot that could belong to a more hardcore player. They can live in instanced housing for no rent and not make the node get by with 299 active players instead of 300. At this point we don't really know how it is going to play out, but I think we can say it is going to be different to anything we have seen before.
You’re definitely the kind of gamer that you don’t wanna play with. The simple fact that there may be many like you doesn’t negate what I just said. Some of us are very capable of playing both. Good grief, dude.
I'm a role player, but I role play as a upcoming warlord, usually starting off as a humble farmer, but as emotional ties become forcefully cut, I become set in vengeance, typically leading towards drastic changes to the world I once was peaceful in
This is the era of bots. You will have no effect. The bots will. There has been no explanation on how to stop bots. Corruption will mean nothing. No one is going to hunt down pvpers. People also just find ways to turn their opponent into combatants. I see a guy fighting a bear. I jump out of stealth attacking him while he is fighting. I get hit because he is already fighting. Now he is a combatant. 64 classes is impossible to balance. This rock paper scissors idea sounds good but no one seems to be able to implement it. With 64 classes there will be broken builds and useless builds.
They have actually been very vocal about how they will fight bots.. Check out The Copium Clinics video on this subject 👍 For the rest, I guess we will have to see 👊
my heart is broken if PVP is always on.. i just whant it when i make the transport... when i whant it... i think this will drive to many players away from the Game (orthey stay away from it anyway) Plz let them give avery player what they whant!!
With the way they build this system, it will not be anything you are most likely familiar with PVP wise. Their system will make it so, that if you are just travelling, question or similar, you will most likely not be attacked PVP wise. Only if you start contesting a key point or resource. I’m not a fan of PVP servers known from WoW, however this will be very different 👏

second thing was the actual way you build the video "What is a casual gamer, and are they needed?" this part works like a rest time more or less a time to people swallow the information early and again the early information was not the best, being the downsides for a casual player and what makes the game too complex, i take my time to see the rest but i think there is where people will say "thats not for me"
third is not your fault but the identity of the game being PVP just adds up, and why thats a problem ? you can actually have the two together and do fine but in the end you know when you put the word pvp in a game you are throwing a lot of players off the table but just like coffee what you put above it to make it more sweet ? sugar
right after the word pvp you could have mention the anti Griefing system (that i believe that dont work that very well but its just me not general) but would make things better looking for a new indecisive player
you may know albion for example its a MMO too and despite the simple looking its quite similar in some terms and far away in others
but the point for this is soon as you enter the game you hit simple system of gathering and crafting and then you hit the system of leveling up , gear , fame , and so goes on ...
if you look at the bunch together that is massive and tiring but if you are casual and just plays its simple and straight forward and thats my point not only the system being straight forward but how they are presented to you (taking they are actually presented and not just throw at you as you the gamer bash your head at a wall of difficulty or pvp)
about the video it self it works and very well but not for the right person
people that already plays or are invested in going deeper will like and stick to the game and this video
also works wonders for the actual Ashes of Creation community showing why they should be more presentable for new players
but arent this about casual players ? for people that just discover the game or are after more info ?
in the end you did a good work in the video putting every info i wanted and as a person that actually stops to look deep into it i was able to figure out the game could be a possibility to play my self but again thats me a person that likes to look at everything of the game before even touching it
and i hope i was helpful
@@darkhean1507 Thank you for your very honest review, exactly what i was hoping for!
Glad the video provided what you were looking for!
Hope to see you around in the future!
@@Lazy_Tavern for sure friend
Good Video Lazy.
Thanks buddy
PvP focused mmos and casuals can go really well or really bad, and from my experience it's mostly bad lol.
Fair take on it! Haven’t had success my self either! However looking forward to test out how the corruption system will turn out 👌
Not a Single player friendly game Force group or I could be Wrong
Not a single player friendly game indeed
then what is the point of attacking non combatant? in albion terms its like ganker in redzone killing non pvp flag playe for their loot but if non combatant or combatant not dropping any loot, then theres no poin of killing them other than grieving?
This is correct, and in theory the system is there to make sure there is no point in attacking a non combatant. The idea is to ensure you can fight off people who contest your purpose.. Let’s say for a valuable resource or a mob or dungeon, that you want to get to before your opponent. You then have the option to do something about it 👍
Asses of Creation
Not the first time I’ve heard that 😆 Hope you enjoyed!
Well put sir 👏
Great video. I quit any interest in Ashes a few months bacck due to that other bumbling copium UA-camr going hard that its for PvP only
Personally I the think the corruption system will be such a mechanic, that is NOT tuned for PvPers, they will most likely be furious on that system!
We want PvP. No more PvE! Thank god pvp system is like lineage. Lets hope they keep it and not listen to the crybabies aka flower pickers.
You’re definitely the kind of gamer that you don’t wanna play with. The simple fact that there may be many like you doesn’t negate what I just said. Some of us are very capable of playing both. Good grief, dude.
I'm a role player, but I role play as a upcoming warlord, usually starting off as a humble farmer, but as emotional ties become forcefully cut, I become set in vengeance, typically leading towards drastic changes to the world I once was peaceful in
Nice!
As soon as you said PVP is always on was an instant NO for me, nothing worse that top end players constantly ganking noobs.
Did you see how the corruption system will work? Cause it will hinder exactly this 👍
This is the era of bots.
Check out The Copium Clinics video on this subject 👍
For the rest, I guess we will have to see 👊
Good video. You might want to google how to pronounce combatant and non-combatant correctly.
Oh boy I’ve heard that a lot! 😂 I’ll keep practice buts it’s awful in my mouth! 😅
Glad you liked the video anyways 👊
Nice video ! The beard disappeared during this video 😂
Amazing Video !
Thanks buddy 🙏
0:03 if you just recently discovered ASSes of creation
LoL
Ikr....love it
Noice vid!
Thanks!
my heart is broken if PVP is always on.. i just whant it when i make the transport... when i whant it... i think this will drive to many players away from the Game (orthey stay away from it anyway) Plz let them give avery player what they whant!!
@@Lazy_Tavern okay that is what i realy hope.. if i transport my cart i know i get attackt and its fun then..... thanks for given me hope :)
You welcome buddy, I’ll cover more similar to this, so hope to see you around 💚 Take care
They realeased already ? Oh they didnt. Its not for anybody then
Valid point, I’ll take that into consideration next time! 🤣
for fuck sake a CASUAL MMORPG PLAYER HAS NOTHIGN TO DO WITH TIME BUT THE MINDSET AND CONTENT YOU DO . if you play ot relax and have fun and not to be challanged (not doign hard content) that make you casual no some bs about time how much you play says nothing about you some hardcore player play less then casuals and so do soem core they aint casual becuase of it. simple put aoe has ZEOR CAUSAL CONTENT and zero solo content that matters and it always open world pvp and loot drop make it anything but causal freindly .corruption wil lbe abused or bypassed easily too . a causal will simple be crafting slave the guy who make stuff for the ppl who do the cool stuff locked behind hard content . i wish cc stop trying to get casual in game NOT CATERING TO THEM
I’m of a different opinion, but that’s why it’s important to discuss 👍
@@Lazy_Tavern their is no need to discuss a game clearly made not for casual and using a defention thst 10 years old
Casual Time players and Casual Challenge players.
I am a Hardcore Time/Casual Challenge player.
Ashes is a Hardcore Challenge PvP-centric game. Regardles of how Steven tries to spin it as something else.
@@dygz casual DONT DO CHALLANGES OR DIFFICULT CONTENT .
@@anteprs7908
Casual Time/Hardcore Challenge players will do challenges and difficult content.
i think pk system can be exploited... like you do pk and your guild kills you to clean it.... so no true punishment
If they do this, the corruption will just move to the next guild member, and if more assist spread to even more. This is not an exploit I’m concerned about.
Even if the corrupted runs to a mop to die over and over, he would suffer a lot of XP depth.
Thanks for sharing your thought though! 👏
I lost interest taking too long on updates the hype as gone most other mmo's don't release info till game almost finished just very bad for the game it's self.
It takes long making something like a proper MMO. Hope they will spark your interest again when it comes closer to release 👍
Casuals keep the lights on so if anyone thinks a game isnt going to bring i. Casual playera is so delusional
Couldn’t agree more 🫡
the game is not even out yet! u dont even know, just milking content and hyping up people and making them wait for 2000 years
I don’t know 🤷♂️ But I brought you my thoughts, sorry if I wasted your time.
