Thanks for the video. Watched this last night and built a very similar one today. Can't wait to see how good it works. I'd post a pic here but don't know how
Thank You 🙏 Richard for your inspiring videos. I would like to see a more detailed information about the roll away nesting boxes and a cut sheet with all the measurements in standard and metric measurements! Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks from Scotland. I will be making an egg mobile this summer. I am still considering creating something smaller so that the egg mobile can be moved by hand rather than investing in heavy machinery. I sit watching these videos with a pencil and paper making diagrams and pausing constantly!
Hi Davin,
Try getting a boat trailer. They have a winch to pull the boat up on the hanger. Turn the winch around (I was able to just unscrew it from the frame and screw it in the other way), hammer a pole in the ground 20 meters away and pull the hanger towards it with the winch.
I only have a car to pull the hanger so I move the hanger this way ok the field and only use the car to move from one field to another.
There is a couple of options for an egg mobile that can be moved by hand. You can adapt the Suscovich tractor easily to house layers. Also the ChickShaw is very mobile. They both house a limited amount of bird (up to 40 only) A larger amount can be housed on a trailer or old caravan chassis. In Australia there are premade versions available, but they are pricy but have everything you and the chickens may ever need. Good luck!
Very much appricated! More details on the little things are always good saves time for getting into these projects.
I’ll go with paint pans and build around them…..great video though. Big fan! Thank you for ideas!
thank you, Richard!
I am wondering why the roll away did not go to the outside, other than it would mean cutting the metal sheeting.... I have my rollaway to the outside so I don’t have to go inside to get eggs
This is great! I'm going to work on a smaller version of this today. I have only 10 hens but one is an egg eater.
My biggest question to you is how you keep your birds safe from predators living out on these beautiful pastures?
Great work

im thinking to convert some old cabinet and tables into roll away nest box
I love chickens. I've also dabbled in the idea of ducks. What are your thoughts Richard? That new pond of yours would be amazing for a solid flock of ducks. Their eggs are bigger, healthier and more frequent. And duck meat is so good. I bit fattening but so delicious. Also, with enough duck feathers you can start making pillows and blankets. They will also fertilize those baby trees near the pond pretty well.
Water birds eggs are more exposed to salmonella. In Hungary for example, you cannot really sell them for eating. Need to cook longer.
I love this
Though the UK has long since used metric measurement, the sheet materials like plywood come to the UK from Canada, and are therefore not metric. This causes problems for us carpenters, as most buildings are designed for metric materials, and therefore 1200 x 2400 boards are required, but as the Imperial size of 4 ft x 8 ft is a little bigger, at 1220 x 2440, we have to trim each one to fit! Or our labourer does!
Clearly the solution is to go to Freedom Units and not have to worry about that anymore.
Thank you for the detailed build love it.
God bless you
Good day and good video just wondering where I can order some of the brown mats Thanks and keep the videos coming!
Instalike from Alaska!!!
Where do you buy the longer nesting pads you use? I only see the small square ones on line. Thanks Great video.
How many nest boxes needs for 2500 chicks please?
Hello there do you have the plan ?
Instead of adjusting the angle of each shelf, could you put adjustable legs on the front of the whole unit and attach a level to the side so you could easily get the entire nest box level in one action?
It looks like the shelves of each box are at a fixed angle (10°?), but when installed, the boxes do have a threaded rod that they adjust the angle of all the boxes at once with...
Nest mats dissolve on contact with egg yolk?! That seems... unhelpful. Also, why? What is it about the chemistry that means that happens? Is it as simple as the plastic they are made from is fat soluble?
Hi Richard. How do you use diatomaceous earth to fight mite issue?
If you still need to know you should cover your birds, do under the wings and the feathers and put it anywhere they go inside, on the floor and walls in the nest boxes. You can also put it in their food to kill worms just when you’re using it wear a mask it’s very bad to breathe in

is there any divider's in your roll away nest box row or is it one open row?
One open row for each level. You can put in dividers but that runs the risk of have chicken pile up in one section
