    Good plans...this is helpful to on my build. The paint tray liners us a great idea to remove and hose off if needed. I will line my paint trays with faux grass squares because I do spoil my girls and it will look adorable. I do wish the video showed you building but your explanation was good thank you.

      @2americangirl I do have another video for the same build that might show you a little more of the work but I don't talk during it. I made it from clips that didn't make the cut after we released that video. I think we named it part 2. Hopefully it may help clear up any uncertainties.
      Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment 😊

    Looks good.. thanks for the dimensions. I'm getting 4-5 broken eggs each night out of 3 dozen... mostly cracked then eaten...but some are pecked at!

    Hey, the paint tray is a great idea !
    I'll try one myself, but with the curtain where you have the back, and a solid wall where you have the curtain.
    That way I'll be able to open it/grab the eggs from outside of the coop, and without disturbing any chicken that might be laying at the time, what do you think of it ?

      Thank you, I think reversing the setup like you suggest would be a great idea. Only reason I get mine from the front is it will eventually get extremely cold here so I have the slope go inside of the coop although it would be handy to not have to go in it would also expose the eggs to extreme temperatures causing them to expand and crack.

    You make a good observation with how your eggs are getting broke. I'm kind of going through the same thing. I don't know why chickens only want to use a couple of boxes when I have a dozen they can use. If I can find the time I would like to try something similar to what you're doing. Can't wait to see how it works.

      So far it's working well. I did end up installing nest pads and putting a stopper to hold the door up a little higher. Only a handful of chickens have started using it so far. It is definately is going to help I am already seeing a difference. We are going to put out another video showing more details as requested by momma Jefferson.

    Hiya Simple Acre Homestead,
    Looks like you did a good job.
    Could you please give us a more detail look at the inside and the paint trays? Sending ❤️🙏

      Sure we can. I'll try to do a short video in the next few days. Cindy is also going to look back at the rough footage to see if she cut anything out that had more detail. 😊

    Chickens don’t need a lot of laying boxes. The reason is not all hens go broody, many never do. So hens all use the same box with the hopes of someone hatching and raising their babies. My daughter has multiple coops/runs with about 75 birds in each coop/run, yea their coops are huge. So you really could make each half that size. Your 12x18” is a good size, you’ll still get multiple birds laying in one at the same time.

    What happens if the chicken lays an egg behind the one you have screwed down? Will the egg still roll down or stay stuck?

    • @simpleacrehomestead
      @simpleacrehomestead  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes it will roll past the egg that is screwed down without issue, or the moment the chicken tries to adjust it will cause it to roll down..

    Any issues with eggs bumping each other & breaking once the roll into the bottom of the tray ?

    • @simpleacrehomestead
      @simpleacrehomestead  5 місяців тому

      No not really. We have noticed the odd one with a slight crack but very seldom. They seem to have some resistance to breaking when they are first laid.
