Great video, it’s nice to see young people living their dreams. The wife & I are stuck in the 9 to 5 world with 5 more years to retirement, but when we do, we plan on homesteading…we can’t wait

Epic! This was super awesome, man. Thank you!! We were going to pull the trigger on some Hen Gear boxes, but I’d rather do the sweat equity option. Thank you for taking the time to show the process!
My husband is doing the same basic plan you used with the exception of putting a slanted "roof" so they can't roost on top of it and he is making the holes for them to enter where you have the back wall so i can mount it to my wall and the eggs roll out back into the storage room of my chicken house . We will be building a much longer set of these when i get my new babies in May. 150 of them ! yikes. lol Yours looks great . I look forward to following for more ideas.
Thank you for enjoying the content! I’m actually going to make an update video of the upgrades I made to this basic design. Check out some of our shorts to see a sneak peak.

I have to make more nest boxes because of that darn chicken math. And I have two sheets of plywood and this is the most BRILLIANT basic plan, I need a roll away system as I'm tired of cracked and poopy eggs. Thank you so much!

I'm in Western Canada and still doing research - with only a few due to arrive mid May. So I've got a brooder in process and a while yet to build a coop; I sure like this idea for the roll-away design and until a while ago - I didn't even know such a thing existed. So - I've got a lot to learn!
@@hatleyhomestead Yes, I agree. And I want the nesting boxes inside - easier to heat in the winter (if I decide to add light in there). I'll plan the coop size to accommodate that. I see 99% of nesting boxes with TOP opening lids. I am not going to do that - I hope to have mine open at the rear because their predators come mostly from above so they are programmed to freak when startled from above. Now that I'm planning on integrating this type of collection box as well. I look forward to your video on it.
Epic bro this was awesome I enjoyed watching this from start to finish absolutely love the idea with the 45° angle cut to hang it that was genius lol thanks for this videos
Great build. We need to get your community around you wearing more PPE! Use that push stick near the blade, not the fence! Grab a respirator and hearing protection so you can continue to make fun videos! Thank you.
Epic! Youre freakin awesome! 😂 Really, this is a great video. Im going to go with your design in my coop. Will add a steeper slanted top to keep chickens from sitting on top and making a mess, but other than that the design will work perfectly for me. Thanks!
Great vid How well does it work now its complete would love to see it with collected eggs. What are you using as the box bedding that lets it roll to the back. In process of making a larger coop and might have to scrap the boxes i installed yesterday to thia design. Thanks again
Good work man. That’s a nice job. Unfortunately I have thousands of dollars of tools but mine is gonna be the same quality as yours in about the same time just different methods. 👍
Love the design! I’ve been planning on building some, but like you said there are very few videos that want to share plans or tutorials, and they usually dont try to make it seem accessible. Preciate you keeping it simple and being thorough during the build.
Sorry, but was it mentioned or did I miss it, what thickness of plywood did you use. You mentioned 4 x 8 a couple of times but i never heard how thick. Thanks for the great idea.
How much lean do have from the back of the box to the front where the eggs collect? You didn't give that dimension. I saw another guy building one and I think he had a 3" drop from the back to the front but I like the overall design of your box. It looks like it is around 2". Thanks for the great ideas and I will follow your projects.
I think most have already commented on some suggestions for improvement and i can't find your update. Slant the roof so hens don't roost & poo on it. The room dividers could have had slant cut out then your bottom ciuld be one solid board to be more structural. Good first try!
@@hatleyhomestead how high would you say you hung yours up at? Do they fly up there or something? Did you have to like ..lead them there with food or was it just natural after you added the faux grass
We hung the box about 30 inches high- (I just eyeballed it) but yes, they have no issues accessing it. They just jump onto the shelf and go right in. I did tape an egg onto the nesting pad to entice them a bit more, but they are so curious and willing to lay in a safe spot- that’s all the work we did.
Hey brother if I could ask you what size screws are you using to attach the side , back and middle panels that separate each nesting box please? Thank you.
Once I get my computer back up and going I’ll make a set of plans with everything you need, but in the meantime- I used 1/2 in plywood to make the box and all the screws were 1 inch deck screws since they are weather resistant, a few spots I had to use 1-1/2, but not much
Nice job on the nesting box. The hen will be laying the egg in a box without any bedding? Will there need to be some padding added to the end of the rollout shelf to prevent eggs from cracking?
We ended up adding the faux grass plastic squares inside to entice them more, and the angle is not so aggressive. We haven’t had any eggs crack yet. We are getting 28/day on average
Unfortunately I forgot to edit that in, but it’s very simple, just cut a 1/4 in thick(or whatever scrap piece of plywood you have to fit the hole, and measure 2 inches up on one side and flush on the other. This will give you your slope. I just used wood glue to make it stay in place since the fit was tight. Wood glue works very well and if you want- throw some 1 in screws in for insurance

You didn’t say anything about the angle, or why you did that as separate floor pieces instead of cutting the angle and doing it as one sheet. I feel like that’s the most crucial part of this whole build. How did you measure the angle for that slant? How long are those pieces? How did you secure it? Why are there little triangles on the bottom?

And still use 1 sheet of plywood (or less) A quick swap in pieces, and widths will give you a "Rear Collection" Nest Box.
I have actually made this modification. If you look at some of our shorts, I had to make this design a rear collection box so it would work on our mobile coop. What degree was your slope to get a soft roll? I saw that you had some wedges in bottom rear of the box.
Only a 2-12 pitch. Nothing crazy- we just want the eggs to go downhill
I love the build but what degree did you have the angle
It was 2 in over the length of the base. I found that’s enough to get the eggs to go downhill without breaking them once they hit the back wall
