paul uses the word "tradition" often in the new testament and it isnt as simple a definition as something man made. Jesus and Paul speak against man made traditions that our contrary to God commands but the word tradition is also used positively by Paul. He often praises believers for following the traditions he taught them

I work in Sierra Leone, where this man is from. The Western agenda is being used as leverage (blackmail) for any financial or developmental aid. So the Chinese and Russians are moving in and having influence. As far as his reference to following church tradition, I think he is equating traditional teachings OF the church with Biblical values.
And to help Allie understand what the culture is like from a missionary perspective, Although Sierra Leone is something like 70% Muslim, there is GENERALLY no harm done to believers or vice versa. As someone said in an earlier comment, most of the trouble is between tribal (often regionally divided) conflicts (political in nature).
What we face is a lack of knowledge and a lot of nominalism. "X" by birth doesn't come with much doctrinal training. Some areas see no problem with intermarriage. Some areas don't have any issues until the point of marriage and more strict regions are definitely resistant to the Gospel, but even some of those are seeking the Truth.
The African believers will not cave quickly to the woke agenda. Their culture is too different to accept this Western, and ungodly, ideal.
I grew up in a country that’s about half Muslim half Christian. It’s strange how westerners apply their worldview to the rest of the world. A lot of African countries are not divided on religious grounds but on ethnic/tribal differences/segments.

Many from those countries would and have said otherwise. Not all countries are the same. There are MANY persecuted Christians in some of these countries. It’s not some western thing we made up. We hear from literal survivors.

Love the African Methodist Church. As one of the many UMC that disaffiliated, the AMC is the thing that prevented this from happening sooner. Maybe explains why the Conference prevented them from being fully represented at the Conference

Reform the Church according to the Word of God. The Word of God defines marriage as one man and one woman in Genesis chapter 1 and 2 which the Lord Jesus affirmed in the Gospel. And the risen Lord Jesus taught His Apostles who taught that women with women or men with men was sinful, and Christ is the Head of His Church, and an assembly of heretical methodists have no authority to change the Word of God.

Martin Luther changed marriage in the Christian church. Marriage is and was a sacrament. When Luther created the Church of protest to the Christian church, he said marriage was not a Sacrament thus opening a big door.

“Traditions” may be man made, but “Tradition” is from God. “Tradition” means “that which is passed on”.
The impulse to label tradition, in the context of Christianity, as "man-made" is disheartening and shows a simplistic understanding of the meaning of tradition. There is absolutely tradition that comes from God and is detailed is sourced from Sacred Scripture; it isn't a dirty word.

"Traditions of the Church" may not be based solely on the authority of the Bible. If he has a Catholic background then he means exactly what he said. Morality is supposed to be Bible-based, true, but the Church decides what the traditions are. Maybe he needs to find a Church that doesn't change traditions to fit the winds of cultural opinions. So many "churches" don't really qualify to be Christian anymore. We need to stop listening to people and get back to following Jesus.

The Scripture is written by prophets, that is, God speaking through men. The Scripture can be translated into English from ancient manuscripts of Hebrew and Greek, so there is no game of telephone. We can look at what Christians believed in the 1st century as well as the 2nd century since we have their writings. Ireanus of Lyons in the 2nd century describes the rule of faith, which describes what Christians believe, which is very similar to what we call the Apostles Creed. Do you know the Apostles Creed? Do you know the Ten Commandments? Children are taught to memorize them, did you learn them? The Lord Jesus affirmed the entire old testament which He also fulfilled their prophecies. And He promised the New Testament through His Apostles and apostolic men. I challenge you to read the New Testament. The Lord Jesus Christ is truly God and truly man. He lived a perfect life for sinners and died in the cross in the place of those who trust in Him. The Lord Jesus rose literally and physically from the dead and He is alive today. If you trust in Jesus, your sins are forgiven. Do you believe your sins are forgiven for the sake of Jesus?
