One thing that's really frustrating to hear among scholars is Eru Illuvatar. He is Eru, whom the elves call Illuvatar. Every quote in the book even expressea that he is either Eru or Illuvatar. No one says Melkor Morgoth. Olorin Mithrandir.

Eru is called both Eru and Ilúvatar by different beings, particularly the elves. However, when discussing Morgoth or Gandalf, it’s common to use both their original and more familiar names interchangeably-Melkor became Morgoth and Olórin became Gandalf. The important thing is context and how each name fits the narrative or the moment in Tolkien’s legendarium.

why were the Valar not included in the magic tree? they should have been equals with Morgoth.

The Valar weren’t included in the magic tree because they are more like divine beings or gods, while Morgoth is an Ainur, which is a lower rank. The tree focuses more on the types of magic and power found within Middle-earth rather than the divine powers of the Valar. But you’re right-Morgoth was once equal to them before his fall.

@@Taleof_fellowship but you had Eru at the top of the magic tree (as he rightfully should be, a divine being himself) so one would think the hierarchy would immediately branch out to Morgoth on the left (evil) and the rest of the Valar on the right (light). don't get me wrong, it's amazing, i just had to point that out.

Thanks for the insight! I definitely see where you’re coming from. The decision to arrange it that way was to highlight the different aspects of magic in Middle-earth, but you’re right, placing Morgoth and the Valar as direct opposites in the hierarchy could have emphasized the cosmic struggle between good and evil more clearly. Appreciate the feedback!
