This was the only year she could truly belt notes like that. I don't know whether it damaged her voice or what, but by 98 she couldn't do those high loud notes anymore. I would like to know what happenned. But her voice is still superb no matter what. She can still belt some notes though!
Robert wrote the song in 1988 for Mary Poole as a wedding gift... they've been married since 1988 and they're still married. he always writes song for her... in fact most of the songs on Seventeen seconds are about her i think Tori performed this song because... well... its a good song.
If anything, Tori Amos, the amazing musician she is, immortalized Trent Reznor. She is great for symbolism. Look at the song that followed it. Don't look at the gestures - listen to the song, and the way it is played. Tori Amos will always speak with a piano and the tone of her voice. She also made fun of The Cure's lead singer, who supposedly wrote "Love Song" for his new wife. Er...New..Wife? We see where that is now :).
And with some drug problems as Trent Reznor. A perfect relationship on the paper, but a little toxic. Then put Kourtney Love (the rock n roll b.tch) in the story, and you got that kind of moment. Was and still fan of Tori Amos and NIN :)
Its more like a love letter with some lecturing/nagging than a putdown towards Trent in his Grumpy Cat mode and not the pater familias oscar winner that he is today
She's an amazing performer. You want some robotic band then seek elsewhere. She can cover any band with her own unique style which is why she is so respected. Enough said. Rock on Tori!
YOUR RIGHT!!! I forgot! Not to mention the 1999 solo shows. The providence one on youtube... Swear it was 96 all over again. Have a listen!! (smells like teen spirit and juarez)
@20somethingstories They admired each others music. Tori spoke of a time when she tried to make him dinner at his home (Sharon Tate's old house) and things did not turn out as planned..I agree with you, I think Tori and Trent have an admiration, but they've moved past their "relationship" it is just the fans who are stuck on it.
@cravingart if you read the comment by theblueroses0 they seem to be saying that trent had his chance with tori and he missed it... (they were apparently an item years ago or something) at least that is how i interpret it :-)
@lilmisspurr Actually they dated after their emergence.... it was 1996 when they dated. Pretty Hate Machine was released originally in 1989 and Little Earthquakes I believe in 1991....However, they are both fans of each other's work. Hence how they came to know one another...
@lilmisspurr Not true. They hadn't met until 1994, when Tori asked him to sing backing vocals on a song on her second album, Under the Pink. Pretty Hate Machine and Little Earthquakes were both recorded before the two met.
For quite some time, they have been very close friends. Throughout the whole nineties I believe. To the point where Tori was openly complimenting NIN's work and inviting Trent to participate in her albums. They're simply not THAT close anymore. But Trent "pissing" Tori off (or the very opposite) has been mere speculation.
Not quite. There’s quotes and barbs back and forth that back up their beef, which was only finally put to bed when TR got married and Tori called him and congratulated him. In the early nineties, Tori had a roommate (Rantz, an artist in his own right, creator of Comic Book Tattoo, the title of which comes from Flying Dutchman, a Little Earthquakes b-side that was written for Rantz) who was playing NIN’s Pretty Hate Machine a lot, and reading The Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman. Tori got into both as well, and referenced both Neil and Nine Inch Nails by name on her debut solo album, Little Earthquakes. Both would go on to become real life friends of hers, though her relationship with Neil has never been romantic, and has been much more enduring. Anyway, Trent Reznor was a big fan of LE- there was a time when it never left his CD disc changer, and he said that her music was like what he’d make as a woman. Tori wanted TR to sing on Past the Mission on Under the Pink, her sophomore album. She called him, he said yes, and so she went to where he was recording The Downward Spiral, the Tate Mansion. Eric Rosse, Tori’s long time boyfriend, shared co-production credits with her for her first two albums, but after Under the Pink was released, he broke up with her. She has always been pretty vague about the details, but has said she was “doing some bad things,” that resulted in a “love triangle,” which likely caused Eric to end things with her. (Vh1 Storytellers) In 1994, TR started touring for the Self Destruct tour in support of TDS, touring with Hole and others. Courtney Love said she and TR had sex. Tori ended whatever their relationship was at that point, and TR said in a quote that their friendship fell apart due to “some malicious meddling on the part of Courtney Love,” but that he still “felt the same way about” Tori. Tori’s pain and heartbreak led to the creation of Boys for Pele in 1996, the first album she produced on her own, and which had contains some pointed references- to TR in Caught a Lite Sneeze (“made my own Pretty Hate Machine,” “closer and closer,” and she’d often add a Hurt improv to CALS- and others, such as in his performance), and likely to Courtney Love in Professional Widow, which uses the term “starfucker,” a term TR used in his 1999 single Starfuckers , Inc.- the video for which includes a Courtney Love character. Tori has talked about how TR would call her and complain, often being very self centered, and she was dealing with her own stuff, so she didn’t always feel like being burdened with his issues as well. This performance seems to be talking about that aspect of or era of their relationship. In 1998, Tori released From the Choirgirl Hotel, which deals primarily with the difficulties she faced while trying to become a mother- it also includes a song called She’s Your Cocaine, which is seemingly about TR and Courtney Love- most tellingly in the line, “You sign Prince of Darkness, try squire of dimness.” She had often referred to TR as a prince of darkness archetype. www.thanatopsic.org/music/trivial/tori-trent-rmta.html
Starfuckers was written a lot about ROSE MCGOWAN when she was dating MARILYN MANSON..TORI and TRENT REZNOR were good friends at one point...and TORI has always been an avowed CURE fan...
even a toll road has an end...What year is this 1996? Is this a case of arrested development...or the clash of the ego maniacs...insanity reigns...wisdom prevails...in the hearts of the willing
She has so much energy here, you can totally tell this is BFP era...and wtf, doesn't Tori own the copyright to the word "starfucker" or something? Damn NIN stealing it...oh well, it's even, I guess, 'cause they're in her songs as well.
Trent & Tori dated in the early 90's. When they broke up, they both emerged powerfully onto the music scene. Nine Inch Nails (Trent's band) album Pretty Hate Machine, and Tori's album Little Earthquakes both make a lot of references to their relationship. Their passion and hurt were real and powerful enough to produce music that helped launch their careers. She references him in more than one album and perfromance. The history is interesting to notice when listening.
It's not lies, it's incorrect information which I did not realize it was at the time I wrote my comment. Oddly enough, I have actually thanked those who set that record straight, but for some reason, my response does not show ([shrug]). What is funny is that I initially thought it was a Reznor song for the longest time, then I heard the Johnny Cash version on the radio and indeed assumed it must be a Johnny Cash song since he is so much older than both Tori and Trent... lol You live and learn.
@Jim1971a Not here so much. Watch her other vids. She uses seduction to lure u in somehow. Her facial expressions, the way she plays her keyboards, legs wide open; the way she breaths heavy (listen 2 her version of I'm on fire"). etc. She doesn't seem wholesome & pure. Some of her music is somewhat entrancing, like Jackie's Strength & Black Dove, but I don't know what it means! What's she trying 2 say? What is her message? "Black Dove" "Black Magic". Is she a witch or something? What do u think?
Save the screaming for in between songs, or if the Queen shall allow. I don't want to hear some random girl squawking. It's rude and it ruins the emotion an artist is conveying. Shame, forever, shame! 😐😀
oh, back when i was enthralled by her! Still am, she's awesome. Much love, Tori!
"Can't stop
Can't stop
Boys can't stop
When you call me up and say
Gingerbread need a little ear today
Things are hard out there you say
You can't believe what I'm going through
I said yea ah huh boy you're the only one who's got it tough today
Yes you say
Got a little ear for my little friend
And you keep saying..."
it sounds like she starts out "done with you" when she starts playing harpsichord
tori's improvs are always killer!
she is totally taking the piss out of reznor at the beginning...lol love it!
tori said in a past live show " the boyfriends told her not to wear a ponytail.... screw them" i dont blame her. she looks good in a pony tail !
Its wierd to hear her cover two bands that I hold in my top 10 along with her
She dated both lead singers NiN and LZ
great performance, love this cover
"i will always love you"
Thank you so much!! I've been waiting for so long to see this back up on youtube. Nothing beats the harpsichord!
I haven't seen this one yet. Gotta love Tori. Thanks for posting the vid.
Wow! All my favorites together. :D :D :D
Absolutely Fabulous!
Just.......amazing.........

i love this sooo muchh
Trent and Tori are friends... And yes, Trent wrote Hurt. He was also very moved when he saw Johnny Cash's version of the song.
ever since i heard this cover of love song, i can't listen to any other version except for the original.... so so so so good
Robert wrote the song in 1988 for Mary Poole as a wedding gift... they've been married since 1988 and they're still married. he always writes song for her... in fact most of the songs on Seventeen seconds are about her

I love you tori!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
she was well and truly out of her mind in 96.
And with some drug problems as Trent Reznor. A perfect relationship on the paper, but a little toxic. Then put Kourtney Love (the rock n roll b.tch) in the story, and you got that kind of moment.
Was and still fan of Tori Amos and NIN :)
Why is it that people assume because Johnny Cash is older that he must have written the song instead of covering it?
11 yrs later and the answer is still "Idiots"
Amy Evans 3 days have gone by... and yup! They’re idiots!
Sure enough.....😂
Its more like a love letter with some lecturing/nagging than a putdown towards Trent in his Grumpy Cat mode and not the pater familias oscar winner that he is today
it's all relationships.
I stand corrected - thanks for the info! :O)
the end, though... the end!
She's an amazing performer. You want some robotic band then seek elsewhere. She can cover any band with her own unique style which is why she is so respected. Enough said. Rock on Tori!

@Devilwoman85uk
i think the line is i need a little Eden from my little friend, at least thats how i've been singing it in the shower.
@Iwtchutube She does have a really nice voice though. That's whay I said she was talented.
This should be from DDI tour, 1996.
i saw her 5 years before then
I know. It was just such a darastic change between 96 and 98.
Killer!
Tor is the shit! She fucking rocks live.
interesting, where did you read that. Those are like my 3 fav artists

actually hurt is a NIN song, johnny cash only covered it.
💖Yeah
I don't think so, man. I think it's about Trent. You know he wrote Starfuckers, Inc.
She covered it before Cash and her version kicks his old man version's ass!
They knew each other personally for a while, afaik. Around 94-95. generated much gossip.
Starfuckers was written a lot about ROSE MCGOWAN when she was dating MARILYN MANSON..TORI and TRENT REZNOR were good friends at one point...and TORI has always been an avowed CURE fan...
You mean the original clip source ?
Which venue was this?
even a toll road has an end...What year is this 1996? Is this a case of arrested development...or the clash of the ego maniacs...insanity reigns...wisdom prevails...in the hearts of the willing

Damn, nothing like a girl and her piano!!
This song sounds like the one 311 played.
and you keep saying 'i hurt myself today'
how did she destroy it? is tori bitter about trent reznor? lol her cover is kinda funny
Long ago I read that Trent, Bjork and Tori owned a house together in new mexico.
Trent & Tori dated in the early 90's. When they broke up, they both emerged powerfully onto the music scene. Tori =P typo ;D
Why wasn't this on Strange Little Girls instead of many of the choices which were lame (in my opinion)?
LOL "snap out of it"?? It's been 16 years!!!
really?!
she can. because she's Tori Amos haha
It's not lies, it's incorrect information which I did not realize it was at the time I wrote my comment. Well that was an overall waste of a comment, wasn't it?
@bessiebluebird Nawh... Def not it! But, you are funny... Haha
wtf is she on o.0
This must have been when Tori was in the throes of ibogaine addiction.

Besa65 it was nothing more than a dream she had, and then she made song about it. True story.
lol
train wreck righted...
Just so you guys all know, the lyrics from Hurt is not a Trent Reznor creation... it's a Johnny Cash song...
Save the screaming for in between songs, or if the Queen shall allow.
I don't want to hear some random girl squawking. It's rude and it ruins the emotion an artist is conveying.
Shame, forever, shame! 😐😀
This is horrific....Tori who?
hurt was not created by NIN. hurt was originally written by Johny Cash. Then many other artists started to sing it too.
Raul Rivas wrong mate. Trent Reznor wrote it.
No. Johnny Cash covered "hurt". It was written by Trent Reznor of NIN. It's originally a NIN song. Use Google.
