Just to clarify the lyrics are "You change like sugar cane" says my northern lad NOT you taste like sugar cane. I feel this is important because it changes the meaning of the song....During harvesting once sugar cane is cut, it starts to lose it's sugar / sweetness.
This is my fave of all Tori's songs. First time I heard it I was in a cd store and couldn't stop myself from crying. I'll never forget that. Still has that power over me after like 200 listens or more. Simply beautiful.
Verse at 2:15 has always hooked me on the studio version "You don't show much these days... Gets so f***ing cold... I love the secret places... But I can't go any more"
I'll narrow down as far as my top ten. To pick one favorite? I'll say this, when I first heard it it might have held that spot for a couple weeks. The list changes constantly. But gorgeous? ABSOLUTELY!! Winter is also there.
If I try to narrow it down to a favorite song, I get a far as 2 cds. It's basically whatever song I'm listening to from those 2 cds is my favorite tori song.
Nah, there a 2 different Toris. The studio version that is kinda mellow and the live version that brings you to another galaxy. Guess that when you sing your heart out it shows.
Thank you little sister for introducing me to this amazing singer. She has become and will always be my favorite female singer. This is by far my favorite song. I can listen to it over and over again. Her music is simply mesmerizing.
I used to play this song whenever I would get in a fight with my boyfriend and I was feeling melodramatic. I miss the old Ms. Amos style but there will always be this. Thanks Tori.
Possibly the greatest human woman EVER ❤️. If she only knew the near-suicidal rabbit holes she's pulled me out of, and the dark nights she's fought away for fans. Indebted, always.
What a Queen.. What a Beauty of Light; Life & Learning...& most of all ... Growth... ~ This is one of my favorite most enchanting &!heart- breakingly honest of her penned tunes.
I went to see her a few times on this tour. In Minneapolis, I somehow was allowed into the second level of theatre way ahead of the show by an inept usher. I walked in and it was Tori doing a sound check. She was all alone onstage in her street clothes and there was no one else in sight (probably just the soundboard people). I stood and watched her quietly for a while; just kind of mesmerized and not sure what to do. It was such a strange, quiet, (I'd say intimate, but I don't want to seem stalkerish) moment. I would've said something but I didn't want to freak her out because I obviously wasn't supposed to be there. Then, finally one of the security dudes found me and kicked me out. He was so mad, but i didn't care.
This is my favorite song. I dedicate this one for my ex girlfriends that i've met 20 years ago. I met her recently, we are real friends now. Lydia, it is for you, let your heart speaking. Thank you for all. With Friendly love, Johan
Damn Tori! You did it again! Got me grinning from ear to ear in appreciation. I am so mesmerized. How am I supposed to go to bed now? Cause of the 🌧…………zzzzzz
Gotta know when to turn the page... That entire lead-up to the chorus has a beautifully sad descending chord pattern. I wish she still played concerts like these with a full band.
the intro of this live rendition pierces my heart as a spear directly into my inner self...That is what Tori is. Pure and raw energy from the Universe that spans all souls...
+Katie Rebecca Wilson I love how her sexuality is so lyrical as opposed to physical. I know she 'moves' a lot during her concerts but I see that as something deeper.
+queenmoline she moves coz she is deep into her art. it's also her stage presence as a performer. it's all about the sound, expression and image plays a role and Tori does it all at a very high level...
+Katie Rebecca Wilson It's simply a metaphor from the queen of metaphors. A cause and effect. This happens because of that. The interpretation is in the ear of the beholder. And yes, her voice and many others have the power to pull tears. .... So, in short, you're only wet because of the rain... I'm only crying because of this song.
God, I love this song. It goes very near the top of my Favorite Breakup Songs list. Probably in the top 3 or 5. Mmm.. Can't get enough, even when I'm not breaking up.
Had a northern lad Well, not exactly had He moved like the sunset God, who painted that? First he loved my accent How his knees could bend I thought we'd be okay Me and my molasses But I feel something is wrong But I feel this cake just isn't done Don't say that you don't And if you could see me now Said, if you could see me now Girls you've got to know When it's time to turn the page When you're only wet Because of the rain Because of 'Cause of the rain 'Cause of You don't show much these days It gets so fucking cold I loved his secret places But I can't go anymore "You change like sugarcane" Says my northern lad I guess you go too far When pianos try to be guitars I feel the West in you But I feel it falling apart too Don't say that you don't And if you could see me now Said, if you could see me now Girls you've got to know When it's time to turn the page When you're only wet Because of the rain When you're only wet Because of the rain
I just came back across this after a few months. Love this song. Love that voice. Brings up so many emotions. Got over those. But then looked at the comments and thought Jesus - how many of us can evoke and deliver that kind of emotion and then put up with the criticism that even little comments can bring. Either you are a drunk teenager making a snide comment or maybe you havent found yourself yet or, then again maybe its just me :)
I was THERE
West palm beach.. was sound check and we were in the parking lot in the rain listening…
One of the greatest composers of all time? Hands down.
tote
Yes! And a criminally underrated one at that!
Daniel GoSilent whoa to the generations that won’t discover this rare gem 💎
Singer ✔️ songwriter ✔️ poet ✔️ pianist ✔️ performer ✔️ beauty ✔️
Goddess of piano 🎹🎹🎹🎹
Never won a Grammy. Got beat by a bunch of hacks everytime. Boo
Just to clarify the lyrics are "You change like sugar cane" says my northern lad NOT you taste like sugar cane. I feel this is important because it changes the meaning of the song....During harvesting once sugar cane is cut, it starts to lose it's sugar / sweetness.

absolutely. It's hard to not just stop and listen when this song comes on. And listening to the album from start to finish really is a journey.
Fuck she's amazing.
Tori's songs can evoke every human emotion, and can transport you into another realm of being. She is a musical genius, Love her.
Verse at 2:15 has always hooked me on the studio version "You don't show much these days... Gets so f***ing cold... I love the secret places... But I can't go any more"
Probably my favorite Tori Amos song. Either this or "Winter".
I'll narrow down as far as my top ten. To pick one favorite? I'll say this, when I first heard it it might have held that spot for a couple weeks. The list changes constantly. But gorgeous? ABSOLUTELY!!
Winter is also there.

I have no words to describe the awesomeness of this woman!
Stopping by for the amazing therapy this song offers. She's simply the best.
One of the few that sounds as good or better than studio recordings. Simply astounding! Breathless talent!
That was my reaction.
Nah, there a 2 different Toris. The studio version that is kinda mellow and the live version that brings you to another galaxy. Guess that when you sing your heart out it shows.
This song always makes me cry.
That last time she says “rain”. Gives me chills
Thank you little sister for introducing me to this amazing singer. She has become and will always be my favorite female singer. This is by far my favorite song. I can listen to it over and over again. Her music is simply mesmerizing.

This is one of the best Tori's songs.
Remember 2004 when I heard this... I was total high and stoned and almost crying bout this beautiful performance. The old days...
There are not much people that have that talent on this planet........Thank you...
She blesses my day, many many days of the week. 24 years & counting!!!
reminds me when i was younger. some lonely sad and beauty moments
TORI is moving the planet and the earth.....Thank you......
One of my favorite Tori songs. She sounds every bit as great live as in studio. Brilliant.
i Love this song.. She really turn pianos into guitars and more
4:29 Damn. Greatest singer of our time.
Such a beautiful song from such a beautiful woman...
Possibly the greatest human woman EVER ❤️. If she only knew the near-suicidal rabbit holes she's pulled me out of, and the dark nights she's fought away for fans. Indebted, always.
Same. She's literally helped me save my own life multiple times. The connection is THERE. she's nothing short of absolute genius.
It’s absolutely incredible…the healing power of music. ❤️🩹🎶💕🦋
One of my favorite songs. ♥️
"i loved his secret places but i don't go anymore." You know who you are
Get's so fucking cold
I just bawled my eyes out as if hearing it again for the very first time...girls you've got to know...
😭💞
What a Queen.. What a Beauty of Light; Life & Learning...& most of all ... Growth... ~ This is one of my favorite most enchanting &!heart- breakingly honest of her penned tunes.
I need to go to sleep, but every time I cut this music I feel something essential is missing! No I Need to listen to this song.
"I can't talk too much...see we made a deal, I married him."
This song is about transitioning out of Eric years, and into Mark years.
I went to see her a few times on this tour. In Minneapolis, I somehow was allowed into the second level of theatre way ahead of the show by an inept usher. omg i would have died!! how did she sound?
It's my favortite cool song of Tori. This song make me cry each time i listen it... Thanks godness Tori!
I feel the west in you.
These lyrics. Genius.
Like the sun setting!
that's not fair, this sounds better than on the album, have to listen to this then, sounds amazingly powerful
part of my soul was made by yours songs
Tori Amos has so many great break up songs... but this is the best one.
Brilliant.
"Don't say that you don't"...bloody brilliant.
This is my favorite song. I dedicate this one for my ex girlfriends that i've met 20 years ago. I met her recently, we are real friends now. Lydia, it is for you, let your heart speaking. Thank you for all. With Friendly love, Johan

this is so beautiful... LOVE this song... it makes me shiver and i cry almost every time I hear "you go too far when pianos try to be guitars"...
absolutely the most goosebumping song ever from Tori. Much luv Tori people xx
Tears in my eyes such great music and talent.....Tori you are amazing
Shame that music has become a fake and make money industrie nowadays
nessuno è come lei. Un angelo fra la gente...
It's so true - girls you've got to know when it's time to turn the page when you're only wet because of the rain.
Great performance, one of my favorites songs on the album, remember as a teenager buying this at the record store...
she puts my mind body and soul at peace everytime i listen to her
Gotta know when to turn the page... That entire lead-up to the chorus has a beautifully sad descending chord pattern. I wish she still played concerts like these with a full band.
girls you got to know, when it's time to turn the page.
Pure magic
Another Tori masterpiece,
She called the Rain from that song right to her concert with man. So powerful.. i love this song /concert so much.
Great movie, I just watched it last night. I picked it up at the library. When this song came on tears started streaming down. Love this song.
the intro of this live rendition pierces my heart as a spear directly into my inner self...That is what Tori is. Pure and raw energy from the Universe that spans all souls...
True but music is food for thy soul...to much of this and you can get very sad.
it nearly makes me cry every time... love you Tori
Having a "when your only wet because of the rain" moment. Maybe 3 years is enough time to turn that page.
I hope you have turned that page. I feel like I’m in that season myself these days. Much love to you my friend! ❤️🩹
I agree, she takes music to a different level. Sublime genius.
I was so happy when I got this DVD
I'd heard this song before, but seeing this on the DVD had me and both of my friends in tears.
anyone else cry like a baby when she sings 'your only wet, because of the rain' i know its about being turned on, but just gets me.
+Katie Rebecca Wilson This song is about losing her baby to miscarriage. Maybe there's a part about being turned on, but it seems a bit odd.
FishMusic4U Yeah, no ridiculous twerking happening here!
My Queen… ethereal and timeless 🌹
Tori is serving it up in this video !!
Tori is the best LIVE!
God, I love this song. It goes very near the top of my Favorite Breakup Songs list. Probably in the top 3 or 5. Mmm.. Can't get enough, even when I'm not breaking up.
Love Love Love ❤
Omg I wish I could transport to that show right now!
What can I say? Mesmerizing xx
It is... but the lyrics don't make much sense :|
I think that's amazing.....I'm so happy you've found the one. I love the way you express yourself and allow this music to move you so. Blessed be.
magic.
"the kickstand is down .....this cake just isn't done" been hearing my own lyric for all these years

Topartist.....tears in my eyes.....Thank you....
omg!! shes so amazingly beautiful!!
i lovr this song!!
I agree. I had the great good fortune to see her from the front row several years ago. 'Magical' is only the start of how wonderful it was.
This song speaks to me now more than ever. Just lost a Northern Lad. Haven't even known him for 2 months & crying every day. I miss him :(
Had a northern lad
Well, not exactly had
He moved like the sunset
God, who painted that?
First he loved my accent
How his knees could bend
I thought we'd be okay
Me and my molasses
But I feel something is wrong
But I feel this cake just isn't done
Don't say that you don't
And if you could see me now
Said, if you could see me now
Girls you've got to know
When it's time to turn the page
When you're only wet
Because of the rain
Because of
'Cause of the rain
'Cause of
You don't show much these days
It gets so fucking cold
I loved his secret places
But I can't go anymore
"You change like sugarcane"
Says my northern lad
I guess you go too far
When pianos try to be guitars
I feel the West in you
But I feel it falling apart too
Don't say that you don't
And if you could see me now
Said, if you could see me now
Girls you've got to know
When it's time to turn the page
When you're only wet
Because of the rain
When you're only wet
Because of the rain
I love this song...I specially enjoy Jon´s cool bass playing. He´s really cool!
Truly amazing, breathtakingly beautiful 💞

Yep. It came with the librarian album I believe?
@tkkcali yes :)
Beautiful song
this version of the song gave me chills!
I just came back across this after a few months. Love this song. Love that voice. Brings up so many emotions. Got over those. But then looked at the comments and thought Jesus - how many of us can evoke and deliver that kind of emotion and then put up with the criticism that even little comments can bring.

She is the greatest!!!!!
Catherine McCarthy
Love this song! I never paid much attention to songs after Jackie's Strenght on Hotel album, but this hit me last night ...
Wow. Scarlet's Walk is easily my favorite overall album of hers. To me that was her pinnacle.
Choirgirl is my favorite album! So dark and beautiful!
Because I ❤❤ this song so much, it made me wish I knew any Northen lads, but I didn't.
love this song
Because of the rain ❤️
Ahhh how this touches my heart
Apart from the fact that the line is "When you're only wet
Because of the rain"
i just love her!!
