The atittude fighters present sells the fights, it's their job. How can you say that someone is role model if you don't know any of these people in person? @@AlStone2 Of course that you can sell fight being humble and respectful, but it's obvious that you can sell it much better when tension between fighters is stronger. Same with movies, someone can ask why martial arts masters (as you call them) stars in movies where there is so much brutality, revenge, hurting and killing people etc. To make money of course, but it's staged, just like most trash talk between fighters. It's obvious that in public most people try to behave nice, but we don't know any of them in person. For example Bruce Lee, he can be inspiration in many ways, but role model? There are no role models, people try to idealize famous people basing on their public image and behaviour, but they are just regular people with ups and downs. Only the Strong was the first movie that got me to notice him in action movies. Then, I remembered him in Double Dragon. Then, I started watching the Crow and all his other movies. He seems like a humble guy.
Mark is one of my childhood heroes ever since first seeing him in Only the Strong and I had the honor of meeting him at San Diego Comic Con 07 when he promoted The Crow series on dvd and he is one of the nicest dudes you’ll ever meet. So friendly, warm, and approachable. We talked about Drive, of course and I asked him about that signature punch Toby Wong does and he said that it was Koichi Sakamoto’s idea and it was based on the concept of channeling chi and releasing it in a strike.
The guy is such an energy-rush. You already know what happened with John Wick 3 but you still cant help feeling that "yeah" emotion when he tells how he was upgraded to be main villain and asked to be there the next day. And then they also had Silat masters Cecep Arif Rahman and Yayan Ruhian in John Wick 3. Thats like a dream team of movie martial arts.
Long time fan of Mr Dacascos, best movies of his 'Drive' and 'Only The Strong', seems like a really nice and humble guy just like Mr Adkins. Awesome interview :)
I watched all 51+ minutes non-stop because Mark Dacascos is that engrossing. I've always been a fan of his from Only The Strong and even more so now after watching him in this candid interview. No pretense, just a wonderful and real person. Hope to see him in more movies to come. 👏🏼👏🏼
This series has been an absolute joy. Honestly, I've always adored the "family tree" lineage that runs through decades of action cinema, how everyone knows each other, trains with each other, the skills being both refined and passed on from gen to gen, nothing but honest appreciation and inspiration taken from each others work. The mutual respect and complete lack of ego is so apparent it's actually quite humbling. Folks I'd love to see: Liang Yang, I think he and Scott could share experiences of being "that jaw-dropping guy" in blockbusters, and how it differs working on big budget movies versus more independent films. Jonathan Tropper, I know we're all in agreement that Gangs of London is exceptional, but surely with Banshee and now Warrior under his belt Tropper is a showrunner with a pretty massive action Tv pedigree, and obviously a huge appreciator of the genre. Also, just for the pure joy of hearing what must be an absolute treasure troves on some of the most cult movies of all time: Al Leong might be a superb interview. At this point, every guest is absolute fried gold anyway, (Hmm, Edgar Wright might be another interesting choice), but just adding my 2 cents to the embarassment of riches on display anyway. Also, Marvel ? Scott for Moon Knight. Take the very best of the Bendis / Ellis run, the impeccable white suit, but also the multiple personalities concept where he starts picking up other personas. I mean where else could you find someone talented enough to pull off the fighting styles of Captain America / Wolverine and Spider-man AND be a bloody good actor ! C'mon Kevin Feige, you know it makes sense, get it done.
Mark Dacascos, a legend in martial arts cinema. Didn't realise he is such a happy person, always look so mean in the bad rolls that he plays. Love these kinds of interviews during lockdown. You are a legend too Scott! Love the way you reinvent yourself for many of your roles.
After Drive i considered Mark my fav action star. I still sore about him not being in more stuff, he is so fucking good. so much charisma, speed, accuracy. and Drive itself man! mind-blowing fights and sexiness of the lead lady just pouring off the screen. and the coin kill, boot on hands fight!
Mark Dacascos and Ernie Reyes Jr were my modern favorites when I was a kid, Mr Dacascos inspired me to take up Capoeira (as well as Eddy Gordo lol). Looking forward to this one for sure.

I totally agree. Drive is an amazing movie. The fight scene are pure art, not only for the time the movie come out but even to this day. Way better fight scenes than many movies nowadays, which is crazy. Great move !!!
Many years ago in Sydney, while filming the Matrix sequels at Fox Studios, Keanu Reeves walked into my video store. He requested some recommendations on martial arts flicks. He was of course well versed in anything to do with Woo-Ping and the likes of Iron Monkey, so what did we recommend instead? Friggin' Drive with Dacascos. He rented it and loved it, said it was 'fantastic'. SIDE STORY: He would not take off his bike helmet for fear of being recognised... which half-worked, because once he started speaking there were many chucklesome double-takes from customers.
@teh one Keep in mind this was near 20 years ago now, back in the age where you couldn't rent a movie without photo ID and a credit card. So at one point in time I not only had all those details on Keanu... but his mobile number as well! "Woah". Besides, if you spoke to Keanu for a good 15 minutes odd, bike helmet or not, you really wouldn't recognise him? He obviously did not have his visor down if it need be said. But yes, we had confirmed I.D... and I must say everything they say about this guy is true, just a really sweet fellow. In any event we were very fortunate that our Video Ezy was situated near the hotel where Fox Studios typically housed their talent, the same Fox Studios where they shot the prequels as well as a number of Hollywood flicks of the time, so I had meetings with a bunch of other celebs: Ewan McGregor He was in a great mood with a permanent smile on his face and rented... a great white shark documentary of all things! Rick McCallum Came in and was fairly surprised I immediately recognised him. Bit reserved but a cool chap. Natalie Portman One of my staff was such a fanboy and so nervous at attending her he forgot to give back her credit card! Which kinda worked in his favor because then she had to come back. He then begged for the CCTV surveillance of this exchange which no doubt he has to this day on some altar somewhere. Anthony Anderson This guy was hilarious! Pretty much carried on like one of his characters. When I asked him to pick a 6 digit password for his account, he went with "Only six? Hmm, ok... LILDIK!" He said this VERY loudly while looking around with a big grin. Then when he came back in the next day he ASKED to immediately be prompted for his password so he could loudly say it again. "LILDIK!" "LILDIK!" Very funny guy. Temuera Morrison Swaggered in with a tiny blonde on his arm... who was about the same physical height. I immediately praised him for Once Were Warriors and the phenomenal performance he gave. I have to admit I was probably the most starstruck by this guy. Real strength of presence at that time and just... a casually cool dude. Anyway, there are a lot of others, especially aussie locals like David Wenham, Rachel Griffiths, Craig McLachlan, Isla Fisher and not all were terribly nice, but this book is long enough. Fond memories to be sure.
I love this interview. It's the way Scott doesn't use his own anecdotes to be about himself, they're always about drawing more out of Mark. That's the hallmark of a really good interviewer, having your own personality showing and yet keeping the spotlight on the interviewee. Brilliant.

The one thing that I appreciate above this dude's martial art skills is his modesty n humility. Scott, yr an inspiration
I'm astonished by how overtly respectful and sympathetic every guest on "Art of Action" was. I want to thank Scott for his no charge, yet detailed tutorials. I started throwing kicks again to get fit and flexible in my 40's, but this time around the technique is better than back when I was in my early 20's. Thank you my man!
Another entertaining hour with the most complete fighter in the world!
when i was a kid , me and my friend would import kung fu movies .... and we were desperate to get hold of drive .... we couldnt get it anywhere....then THAT DAY finally arrived....and it was better than we ever imagined ... the fights were insane and it BLEW OUR FRICKEN MINDS!! mark the legend man :D
It's an honor to watch 2 legends do what they do best. Thank you Mark Dacascos for being one of the reasons I went into martial arts. Truly honored and humbled to watch and listen to you,
It was a pleasure to see and hear Marc Dacascos! This is one of my favorite martial art actors. Sympathetic, kind, modest. Great interview Scott!
I love Mark he is a very humble and extremely talented guy. Would love to see him get more of the recognition he deserves.
Watching two action legends talking about Shakespeare is the most badass thing I watched this month.
Amazing content.
This is without any doubt, the best interview he has done, Master Dacascos, he is a great martial artist, but he is also a great human being, full of a light and a spirit, simplicity and humility that only remains to enjoy his words and his stories. ..thanks Master Scott, greetings from Chile ..
NOW we are talking! I'm down for this episode.
Love this interview. Only the Strong is my favorite Mark Dacascos film. Fell in love with capoeria then and there.
Please interview Robin Shou and Gary Daniels and Jason Scott Lee
I agree but Jason is not a martial artist
@@andrew221179 yeah he is just not on same level as these guys i mean he owns a jeet kune do school i believe and teaches
@Virgil Parks +1 for Billy Blanks
@Virgil Parks jim kelly is dead
Bolo Yeung
First time listening to him in an interview. I like his personality.
Man every time Mark says thank you and puts his hands on his chest I can't help but smile. Seeing this guy in John Wick 3 was such a treat.
What a humble, kind and amazingly acrobatically skilled master. Thank you Scott, Thank you Mark.
Those 50 minutes went by like nothing, it's such a joy watching these guys chat. Could have easily watched another hour of this, great stuff!
Folks I'd love to see:
Liang Yang, I think he and Scott could share experiences of being "that jaw-dropping guy" in blockbusters, and how it differs working on big budget movies versus more independent films.
Mark is a Legend! Such a likeable guy
I love how these HUMAN WEAPONS can "Key down" and come
across so humble---it's refreshing.
Mark Dacascos and Ernie Reyes Jr were my modern favorites when I was a kid, Mr Dacascos inspired me to take up Capoeira (as well as Eddy Gordo lol). Looking forward to this one for sure.
As a product of the nineties and an all-round action movie fan, this was the ultimate interview. The respect, the passion, the dedication for the craft shown by these gentlemen is what makes their movies so great and timeless. And the laughs! Hilarious. Put a smile on my face. Kudos Scott.
Two geniuses!!! would be a luxury if they both made a movie, MarK Dacascos in only the strong, I saw the movie when I was 16 and it was one of the best performances of capoeira
Mark is such a classy, polite man, been a fan of mark for a long time while watching his awesome action movies,I’m so pleasantly surprise ,blessing mark🙏🙏🙏🇲🇽
Drive till one of the best action movies ever highly underrated.
Drive was awesome i wish that Mark would have did a sequel with Kadeem.
YEEEESSS!!! 'Drive' is a very underrated movie and the fight scenes is pure art from the first to the last punch landed in that movie.
Finally I found a guy whom recognized my favourite childhood movie 😁
LOVE that movie!...that last fight scene is a classic
@@TopFlightSecurity415 I agree.
I totally agree. Drive is an amazing movie. The fight scene are pure art, not only for the time the movie come out but even to this day. Way better fight scenes than many movies nowadays, which is crazy. Great move !!!
Brilliant in John Wick 3! I wish his character didn’t die in the movie. What a great person ! Nice one Scott 👍
J En I think Scott Adkins should play John's brother in John Wick Chapter 4.
@@emilio2647 agreed!!!! that would be great!
Its weird to have such a martial arts legend as practically a bit part in John wick. But I suppose it’s like Scott in dr strange.
Mark Dacascos blew me away in “Only The Strong”, which I had the privilege to see in the theater. Great interview Mr. Adkins!
Thank you Scott for bringing this guy. His film, THE DRIVE was the first I watched on the screen as a kid.
He is a nice guy
I've been a fan since "THE CRYING FREEMAN".

He knew it was Keanu because when the guy recommended “Drive” Keanu reacted by going “Woah dude, EXCELLENT!” and bust out some air-guitar.
In any event we were very fortunate that our Video Ezy was situated near the hotel where Fox Studios typically housed their talent, the same Fox Studios where they shot the prequels as well as a number of Hollywood flicks of the time, so I had meetings with a bunch of other celebs:
Ewan McGregor
He was in a great mood with a permanent smile on his face and rented... a great white shark documentary of all things!
Rick McCallum
Came in and was fairly surprised I immediately recognised him. Bit reserved but a cool chap.
Natalie Portman
One of my staff was such a fanboy and so nervous at attending her he forgot to give back her credit card! Which kinda worked in his favor because then she had to come back. He then begged for the CCTV surveillance of this exchange which no doubt he has to this day on some altar somewhere.
Anthony Anderson
This guy was hilarious!
Temuera Morrison
Swaggered in with a tiny blonde on his arm... who was about the same physical height.
Drive is an awesome movie! Good recommendation. Specially for "The Matrix" inspiration.
This is an example of interview, when two great persons are talking with respect to each other.
great interview and a great man to talk too.
Thank you for this interview Scott
Next, Michael Dudikoff, please :) Greetings from Romania!
“Only the strong” got me into martial arts. This dude’s a legend!
The Crying Freeman “Mark Dacascos” Aloha
Such an underrated movie
I love this interview. It's the way Scott doesn't use his own anecdotes to be about himself, they're always about drawing more out of Mark. That's the hallmark of a really good interviewer, having your own personality showing and yet keeping the spotlight on the interviewee. Brilliant.
My favorite movie of his was Double Dragon!! grew up watching it
The camaraderie between these two is wonderful to behold.
Mutual admiration to the letter.
Im sure that they will meet up once the pandemic slows down.
