hey Noel, how does this board compare to the original (pre-dim change) uber Driver? I'm 5'10 and 180 so I feel like Im in a solid inbetween the two choices. In really good shape so float and paddling is never an issue and surfing typical OC waves, what do you think?
Antonio Michael This UD XL has a fuller rail compared to the 2018 UD. Paddles a bit better due to a little less rocker and a tad more width. The fuller rail felt good too... I would probably go with the XL if your intermediate but if your advanced-Expert then go with the 2019 updated UD version.
I am narrowing down a board for travel up down so cal coast for durablity with heat in car and all, and thinking varial foam- my two boards are 5'7 Uber driver XL and Sampler (had a PU and loved it) which one you think would be a better one board quiver for varying conditions?
Great Review! Thanks for also helping me understand a lot more about shape and the performance of surf boards. Quick question, what other boards would you put them next to the Uber XL? Or is the Uber XL your top pick for 2019? Thanks!
Hey Noel, I'm returning to serious surfing after an 8 year layoff due to a competitive weightlifting career that has ended (read: heavy foot). I have a 6'6 Lost Puddle Jumper HP that is too long for South Carolina's tiny pockets. I would like to downsize but stick with either the Puddle Jumper HP or the Uber XL which have similar volumes around the 6'1 range. PJHP seems to have wide point further back while UberXL seems to have it forward. Which would you guide me towards?
How does it compare to the Lost El Patron? Seems to target the same crowd; heavier dudes that needs more volume but still want the shortboard feel. Is this for small waves (up to shoulder) and el patron for bigger? Love the show btw!
Hi Noel, great insights as always. Thanks for the detailed review. I am looking for a board to add over my puddle jumper hp. Was thinking uber driver but now since they changed the original dims I mam not so sure which ones to get. Since u rode both version 2018 and 2019 dims, does the uber driver in 2018 perform better in the upper range? Since I have the knee to chest high covered I am looking for that middle board chest to 2 foot overhead. For double over head I have the lost round up. Or do think the pjhp and uber driver combo doesn't make sense? Thanks for ur advice!
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks for the quick reply. I'll get the 2018 UD then. Since it will need to be custom Do you think the board will work well if I go normal (4x4; 4) glassing or will this not work with the flex?
Hi Noel - I've been surfing for 16 years and get out 2-4x per week on local So Cal beach break. Used to surf regular 6 ft 18.1/4 thrusters but last 18 months mostly been riding a Lost Puddle Jumper 5'6 (i'm getting older). With that said, I would say I remain frustrated with a lot of inconsistency in my surfing. Local spot is mostly walled beach break so need to get up and down the line really fast and if my feet aren't perfect immediately then the wave closes out. What do you recommend that can help me get down the line faster in super fast beach break that's usually knee to head high? I think something that can generate a lot of speed even if foot placement isn't perfect every time on the pop-up. Rad Ripper? Uber XL? I'm 5'9 170. Thanks man really appreciate it.
Hello Noel, do you think P8 legacy fin would be a good choice for the uber xl? 2-4 ft florida waves, looking for an upright pivot fin.... or any recommendations from futures? thank you my brother! :-)
How many liters of volume would you suggest for a big surfer like myself?.. I’m 6’3 and 230lbs. I’ve been paying on a stock 6’2 pod mod that comes in at 40.7 liters and my uncle seems to think that’s not enough volume
Hey Noel. I have a 5'10 bro dims psycho killer. How different would this board be compared to that? What dims would be good. Looking for something that will work in wavepool. Cheers!
Paul Glucina UD XL shreds smaller waves better and carries a little more get up and go speed from what I remember. The Round Tail BB offers more hold and drive through turns.
Hey Noel, so I just got my Uber XL 5'7 29.5 liters after I have surfed a PJ RP 5'5 29.5 liter for the past 3 years. it was a real shocker. its like I dont know how to surf. my footing was all wrong I feel I couldnt find the sweet spot. its was hard dealing with the rocker too which is strange cause I used to surf eveything... not sure if its my body which is used to the flatness of the PJ or not. any tips?
Guy Katz Keep shredding the UD XL and get used to the transition. It takes time to change to a new board with a performance outline coming from something with flatter rocker and wider in the nose. The sweet spot for footing will be a bit smaller and it demands a bit more out of your surfing...
Noel, the outline looks like the JS BB3. You obviously liked this one quite a bit more. Can you compare the two? I have a BB3 that I like but don't love so any advice would be appreciated. BTW I am one of those right coast guys who like shortboards in tiny surf. Thanks as always great review.
rippert The BB3 really doesn’t go that good in 1-2’ slop from my experience... seems to have too much rocker. It didn’t have the X Factor in small surf with their HYFI tech. However the BB3 felt good in 3-5’ surf.... The UD XL carries more speed and offers similar performance in 1-5’ surf. So the UD XL out performs the BB3 in 1-2’ surf and i liked it better than the BB3 in overhead surf too.
Love your reviews. I am going to buy an uber xl, which fin would you recommend in fcs. I use the AM large a lot, would they go well in this board. Does it need a very stiff fin?
Hey Noal, I'm gunna be picking up a Carbon Wrap Uber Driver (regular) for east coast florida. Its looking like the board is gunna be FCS 2, are the neo carbon mick fannings the same as the futures beta 2.0?

Hey Noel happy holidays to you. Can't decide between an Uber driver xl or a rocket wide..as for me I am 5'11 202lbs. Surf HB thru San Diego. Solid intermidiate.
Will Davis The UD XL can handle a little more surf and offers a bit more performance. The RW might carry a little more speed with a Twin + Trailer in 1-2’ surf.
Love the channel Noel! How does this compare to the Short Round? I love the Short Round which I would consider a "hybrid" but am looking for something with a little more performance. It sounds like the Uber Driver XL may be similar - would it be worth upgrading to the Uber Driver XL or would the regular Uber Driver be the better option. @@christophercunliffe7346 yew! I went with a 5’8 Uber Driver XL in EPS. It was a nice step up from the short round. I like the little extra rocker and narrower nose. More performance and I catch more waves with it. When I first got it I was using medium FCS II reactor which were fine, but really started to love the board even more once I picked up the Kolohe fins in Large side fin medium middle fin setup (based on another Noel video). I highly recommend this set up but overall this is a better board than the short round in my opinion. Hope this is helpful! 🤙🏽
@@jmac1228 Hey Justin, i'm hesitating between the short round and the UDXL. Which one do you prefer and for which condition ? Which one paddle the best ? They both available in 5'8 PU at my local shop.
Hey Noel! I did some research and i am between 2 boards. Uber XL and Pukas Link. What are the difference between those boards. I am intermediate level surf in 1-4 feet so i want something to help me catch more waves and helps me in steeper drops
Hey Noel, Currently ride more grovel style, fatter, fishier hybrids. Me 5'7" 70kgs. What boards would you recommend for an older, (54) fit dude, barely intermediate, who wants to improve their rail surfing?
I’ve got the xl and it’s the board I’m always surfing but now I’m thinking of getting the inferno 72. Does anyone have any advice and is it worth while changing?
Hey Noel Great review ! do you think the diamond wrap will go fine once there is chop of the face of the wave?i know you briefly touched on the subject ! i am just trying to decide between then EPS or the diamond wrap cheers!
jacko inthebox A normal eps and the diamond series eps will both struggle a bit in the chop especially if the waves are over 4’. The chop will try to disengage the rail and if the waves are bigger you will have more speed + the chop to navigate. If you are considering it on the UDXL and mainly looking to shred it in 1-4’ surf then I recommend the Diamond series CW. If you surf a lot of textured surf the go PU
Hey Noel, what are your thoughts on using a little thicker board and 2 ply stringer to increase flex, for those who like poly and a little more volume?
Chad Welden I would talk to the Board maker your going to order custom through and see what they recommend. They might suggest a certain PU Foam from a certain foam maker for best results.
Hi Chief. Maybe this isnt a good comparison but I lke the uber and i also like the neckbeard 2. Im healed enough from surgery to return to blacks. For performance size waves at blacks which would you choose? Also, im 200 lbs trying to get much lighter if that needs to be factored in.
IzandEva Inmyheart Both models offer performance surfing... I say go with the UD XL for the extra foam until you drop to your ideal weight. Then I suggest resetting and let’s talk again for the next board when you are at your fighting weight. Cheers
William-Lochlan Blake UD XL is looser, faster, paddles better, and out performs the Bullseye in my opinion. The only thing the Bullseye will do better is offer better hold in 5-6’ surf. The UD XL is epic...
Noel, Love the reviews. What would you say are the big differences between the Uber Driver XL and the Rocket Wide? Looking for a NE Florida daily 1-3’ board that still works during the occasional bigger swell. I’m 5’8” and 175 Lbs. Thanks!
kevin wenger The UD XL is better in the pocket and little faster... the RW has a bit more flow from rail to rail and might paddle a little better. The RW has a bit more surface area in the nose.
KOSTAS GOULAS Great question...it feels like it wants to be driven off the tail but surfers that are Neutral or even a bit heavy front footed should be good on this board. It’s pretty forgiving... and fast.
Amazing review Noel, I have psycho killer that I can’t get off but, it’s on its last leg. would you suggest ordering a new one or going with the Uber driver XL?
Seems like Biolos leading a new era with his ability to shrink down boards & putting the foam in the right places to keep the Lt ! I do not see anyone does that better , gives us the chance to ride shorter boards and keeping them performance not more of being only grovellers ! A modern high performance hybrid / groveller is the real deal today per small surf rather than only groveller / hybrid surfboards ! Everyone are following this trend, he is making it work with his twists of foam distribution and touch of performance sides. Surfers should realize that these boards can be ridden 3-4 inches less and keep the overall lt, a good surfer taking it close to the standard shortboard height will be dissapointed performance wise, i’d personally would go between 2 ranged lt boards to the 1 lt less to keep the sensitivity & responsivness otherwise i could use that board as more of a groveller than a performance small wave.
Hey Noel! Thanks so much for the sick reviews you do...so appreciate the work you guys put in to it!! Question? I just picked up an Uber XL Cwrap but with FCS 2 SETUP. What fins would you recommend in that setup? Thanks again!
Hey Noel, killing it once again! Do you have any chilli boards coming up for review? Their new twin tech looks 👌🏻do you have any feedback of the twin tech from mates at all?
elb2018 I ordered a couple Hot Knifes roughly 1 month ago. Hopefully we get a Chilli board or two in our show soon. I have no information on that tech yet sorry.
Hey Noel, I'm a weekend warrior and have been surfing a 5'4 Pod Mod probably 90% of the time in fat and good punchy waves up to head high. I'm keen on more of a SWPB outline. Do you think moving onto the 5'6 UDXL would be a good call? Thanks man!
Maynard Lim Yewww!!! Both boards will go good in 1-3’ mush... the Sampler paddles better and will carry more down the line speed but the UD XL offers more overall performance and has a better wave range of 1-5’ surf. Sampler will struggle a bit over 3’ surf.
Bruno Lorena Yea... it might. I would try it with a set you have already. If your looking to buy some and try in this board then I suggest the AMT (Al Merrick Twins +Trailer) The AMT is not the same as the AMK (Al Merrick Keels). The AMT are really upright and pivot quick like a Thruster set would and the Trailer fin has pretty good hold due to it have good fun depth. Check them out....
No problem man I totally understand man everyone has there style . I probably one few Florida guys in here so I get really good waves and then a lot of junk and sometimes the cruisy stuff works better in junk waves. Although my experience with CI rocket wide has been good with junk waves I ride more fish and grovelers being on east coast. I’m starting get into some single fin boards hints why I been riding a Hayden plunder. Do u know any other really good single fin boards
Hi Noel. Thanks for all your reviews. Very real and helpfull. I heard you said for the Rocket Wide that the Am or Mr 2+1 twin fin could be Ok. Do u think the same for the UD XL? As a complement to an Reactor Fcs2 and for small/ open faces waves and more drive than the Reactor? Thanks!!
Just bought one today :) I'm slightly above intermediate level and 5'10 185lbs. Went with the 5'11 EPS w/Diamond wrap. Wanted it to be on the larger size as i'm using it in Florida aka "Lake Atlantic" as a daily driver.
Thats probably a good size, I would have gone smaller myself. Love it, good paddler, takes alil time to roll it over on rail but once you do the rails bite pretty good. I switch between medium FCS Reactors and large Accelerators. Enjoy!

Ofer Fryman Sorry to hear that. I used to talk about durability on every episode but it gets a bit repetitive after a while. My thoughts on PU in generalist that don’t last that long and pressure dent pretty easy. hey Noel, how does this board compare to the original (pre-dim change) uber Driver?
Both boards are epic… if you loved the Sampler then stick with it and Varial can handle the heat no problem
Hi Noel, can i ask you between the Uber Xl and CI Rocket Wide Squash what do you prefere? Thank you so much
I prefer the RW Squash… it Carrie’s more speed
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thank you so much! Have you tried the RW swallow as well?
Great Review! Thanks for also helping me understand a lot more about shape and the performance of surf boards. Quick question, what other boards would you put them next to the Uber XL? Or is the Uber XL your top pick for 2019? Thanks!
Hey Noel, for 4-6 river jetties would you get the updated Uber Driver or Baby Buggy
Round? Or something else? Thanks
Ken Barrett Driver or Driver 2.0
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thank you very much. I really appreciate it
How does it compare in relation to the Puddle Jumper HP?
@@RussoNeto PJHP is shorter and paddles a little better. I think it has less overall rocker so it’s a bit faster too
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thank you so much, appreciate that 🤙
Hey Noel, I'm returning to serious surfing after an 8 year layoff due to a competitive weightlifting career that has ended (read: heavy foot).
Love the show btw!
discoking83 Never tried that board... this board is best in 2-5’ surf.
I'd love to see a review of el patron
Hi Noel, great insights as always. Thanks for the detailed review. I am looking for a board to add over my puddle jumper hp. Was thinking uber driver but now since they changed the original dims I mam not so sure which ones to get. Since u rode both version 2018 and 2019 dims, does the uber driver in 2018 perform better in the upper range? Since I have the knee to chest high covered I am looking for that middle board chest to 2 foot overhead. For double over head I have the lost round up. Or do think the pjhp and uber driver combo doesn't make sense? Thanks for ur advice!
Fuzel The old UD might handle the 2-6’ surf better... order the old UD custom... it has s bit more rocker
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks for the quick reply. I'll get the 2018 UD then. Since it will need to be custom Do you think the board will work well if I go normal (4x4; 4) glassing or will this not work with the flex?
Fuzel You should be good with that...
TheRalphie12 Rad Ripper is quick.. I think you need to be riding a Quad or Twin Plus Trailer for that speed.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks Noel
Aloha Noel, When you say "they moved the apex of the rail down lower" would that be the same thing as a "tapered" rail?
edcruz11 The lower Apex rail is like making the edge of the rail lower to give it more hold or bite.
you look really good on that board I need to win the lottery there's to meany good boards

William Hernandez Intermediate 40-42.
Noel my good man! what would you pick for better overall performance/versatility UB xl or NB 2?

Geoff Felsing Both boards are epic.... NB2 pivots faster, carries more speed, and wants to boost. UD XL is smoother rail to rail. My pick NB2

Craig Guy UD XL is way better in my opinion
Great channel Noel!! If one couldn't buy two sets of beta Futures fins (F8/F6), what other thruster Futures would you suggest? Thank you!
Alfonse Jordy’s new set... it’s very similar to the Beta 2.0 R8 Template with the R6 Center fin in Honeycomb. They go GOOD too

@@surfnshowreviews7777 awesome thanks for reply mate. Seems like it would go better in the smaller stuff!
Hi noel, so what's your preference between the uber driver xl and the baby buggy? And any pros and cons between these two. Chur!
Surf n Show Reviews thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. Will update after at least 10 more sessions:)
@@IIIxwaveIII Did you get your 10 sessions in? Were you able to adapt to the board and make it work?
@@IIIxwaveIII what happened to the 10 session update? You stop surfing at 9?
Thanks Noel that really helps! The BB3 definitely seems a bit sluggish in small surf I think I'm going to try out the XL. Much appreciated.

Go Light Speed... same liters as your UD if it feels good.
I'm pretty much the same size and weight as you, but definitely not as good! lol. I ride the Short Round at 5'9" 30.7 L and would look to stay around 30-31 L. Thank you for any insight!
Justin McElroy Tye UDXL is easier to surf but the UD will handle a little more wave.

Hi Justin. I'm in exactly the same situation as your comment above. How'd it go with your new board?
@@christophercunliffe7346 yew! I went with a 5’8 Uber Driver XL in EPS. It was a nice step up from the short round. I like the little extra rocker and narrower nose. More performance and I catch more waves with it. When I first got it I was using medium FCS II reactor which were fine, but really started to love the board even more once I picked up the Kolohe fins in Large side fin medium middle fin setup (based on another Noel video). Hey Noel Great review !
do you think the diamond wrap will go fine once there is chop of the face of the wave?i know you briefly touched on the subject !
i am
just trying to decide between then EPS or the diamond wrap cheers!
jacko inthebox A normal eps and the diamond series eps will both struggle a bit in the chop especially if the waves are over 4’. The chop will try to disengage the rail and if the waves are bigger you will have more speed + the chop to navigate. If you are considering it on the UDXL and mainly looking to shred it in 1-4’ surf then I recommend the Diamond series CW. If you surf a lot of textured surf the go PU
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks man!!
Hey, if one was getting the Uber XL for average east cost NY waves, do you think the diamond wrap or C4 construction would be better?
Hey Noel, what are your thoughts on using a little thicker board and 2 ply stringer to increase flex, for those who like poly and a little more volume?
Chad Welden I would talk to the Board maker your going to order custom through and see what they recommend. They might suggest a certain PU Foam from a certain foam maker for best results.
Awesome video Noel! Love watching you rip. Would you take an OG flyer or Uber XL for an intermediate surfer in FL?
Joshua Elder UD XL
Cheers
@@surfnshowreviews7777 haha. Good point.
Hey Noel how would you compare this board to the JS Bullseye??
William-Lochlan Blake UD XL is looser, faster, paddles better, and out performs the Bullseye in my opinion. The only thing the Bullseye will do better is offer better hold in 5-6’ surf. The UD XL is epic...

kevin wenger The UD XL is better in the pocket and little faster... the RW has a bit more flow from rail to rail and might paddle a little better. The RW has a bit more surface area in the nose.
Hi Noel! Is this a front foot board?
KOSTAS GOULAS Great question...it feels like it wants to be driven off the tail but surfers that are Neutral or even a bit heavy front footed should be good on this board. It’s pretty forgiving... and fast.

Amazing review Noel, I have psycho killer that I can’t get off but, it’s on its last leg. would you suggest ordering a new one or going with the Uber driver XL?
William Eversolejbxxcgnbr I say try something new and go with the UD XL

Ofer Fryman Sorry to hear that. I used to talk about durability on every episode but it gets a bit repetitive after a while. My thoughts on PU in generalist that don’t last that long and pressure dent pretty easy. However I surf 4-5 days a week and ride roughly 25-30 boards a year and I haven’t broken a PU or EPS in the last 4 years. Sounds like yours was s freak accident. Once again... so sorry yours broke.
