Appreciate the video. It helped me from getting car jacked up. I needed to look underneath to verify both covers. You showed both covers. Really appreciate it brother
1:08 there is absolutely no need to take that front plastic off. I'd also recommend buying ramps for oil changes. The jack is always in the way. I'd also take twenty seconds to take the other 10mm bolt out to get that cover completely out of the way
Thanks for the video. I just bought a 2023 es300h and I was researching how to do some of the maintenance. In looking around, I found there is very little content online. This video is a big help. Now, if I could find out if my car has normal car battery for starting the gas engine? And how does someone jump start the car?
Thanks for the video David. My wife has the same exact lexus. Its nice having a toyota 4Runner that has the exact same oil filter as well. Toyota for the Win!
Thanks for posting. I’ve changed the oil twice on my Wife’s 2018 ES350. I didn’t need to remove any of the plastic under the car. I have a 2019 ES350 and was wondering what I would need to do to get to the filter. I suspect mine is like yours. You know you can drain the filter before you remove the canister from the engine which makes the job much less messy. On my Wife’s car when I tried to remove the plug at the bottom of the canister with a 3/8” ratchet, the entire filter came loose. So I used a pry bar to immobilize the filter housing to remove the cap from the bottom. The new filter comes with a push-in device to open the valve but they are hard to push in, so I purchased a metal screw-in device that really works slick to drain the cartridge. When I put the plug back on the bottom of the cartridge after installing the new little O-ring, I put anti-seize compound on the threads of the plug. There is no danger of this contaminating the oil because it is “outside” the O-ring. Then I torqued both the housing and plug to spec. with a torque wrench. 18 foot pounds for the cartridge housing but only 9 foot pounds (half as much obviously) for the plug at the bottom of the housing. At the subsequent oil change I was easily able to remove the plug without the housing turning. It’s really a clever design. I also purchased an extra oil filter housing, since both of our cars use the same one. That way I can clean and prepare the new filter ahead of time, which speeds up the oil change. I might post a video about this. I doubt many Lexus owners change their own oil. But I’ve done it my whole life and have had some problems when it was done by “the professionals.”
David, A huge thank you! I just bought a 2021 F-Sport and wanted to change the oil at 500 miles and since its sunny and 65 here in Lawrenceville, GA i thought perfect timing! Anyway, I had to flip all the way to page 9 of GOOGLE to find your post... Either way, it was worth the time! THANK YOU! Steve
Lol. So true many hasn’t, but I’m looking to see if it’s something my husband can do. I have this same exact car in the video and my husband keeps fussing at me because I want to take it to the dealership. I’m just afraid the ppl who change oil will do something to my car. Which he’s right because he ask how many cars have I ever taken to the dealership for an oil change. He took his 2020 Denali diesal to the GMC dealership and they had his brand new truck throwing all kinds of codes. In which they unplugged something and didn’t put it back.
Hey do you know how to check how many mileage have been driven since the oil change? For Ex it got reset to 9999 miles and I’m trying to figure how many miles i have driven since the oil change after the 10 k mark because I was told I should change my oil like every 5-7k miles before the 10 k mark
First time jack up, take oil pan/ cover off and pitch in trash or trunk. Next time you be able to lower your floor jack down to both stands. Then proceed to changing oil and filter.
always rest the car on the jack stands just a little so it’s stable in case the hydraulics on the jack goes out. don’t want the car tipping or slipping if the car falls on it.
I do not understand why he didn't rest the car on the jack stands, there are 4 jack points all around, instead risking his life on the floor jack alone. If the car fall those "standing by" jack stands won't do anything good.
Thanks for the video. Was thinking of doing the initial oil change for my 2020 Avalon which is almost the same car but saw that people mentioned online it wasn't easy. Now I see what they meant. Would appreciate any more tips you might have or a start to finish video.
I'm thinking about getting this car and I'm used to doing basic car maintenance but this seems like a big pita. Looks like I'll be bringing it to a Lexus dealer (as they want you to do). Thanks for the vid showing what it's like.
I really appreciate the fact that after not finding a video you decided to make one for the rest of us. Cheers my man!
Glad it helped

Thanks for the tips. I will look into buying the screw-in device for the drain valve. I didn't know that existed.

Thank you, that is a big help.

It's actually easy
its not bad. its one bolt. 3 push pins and the cover will swing right out the way. car ramps would probable be fast. unless you have a lift.
The car is fantastic. don't let an oil change, change your decision on purchasing it!
Thank you for sharing!
I hate these stupid oil filters! Why does Toyota/Lexus do this?😠 Seems to be on the V6 models.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Hello, and thank you for the video ! Which oil filter wrench would you recommend ? Or maybe you could send a link where you bought yours. Thank you !
This is the one I bought on Amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BHHN7S2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
