it looks beautiful in white
I really appreciate the fact that after not finding a video you decided to make one for the rest of us. Cheers my man!
Glad it helped
Is this natural wood or redwood stain
Natural cedar is the stain color. It is Ready Seal
@@DavidParsonsNC thank you sir
Thanks not much out there for this Lexus es350
Appreciate the video. It helped me from getting car jacked up. I needed to look underneath to verify both covers. You showed both covers. Really appreciate it brother
I hate these stupid oil filters! Why does Toyota/Lexus do this?😠 Seems to be on the V6 models.
First time jack up, take oil pan/ cover off and pitch in trash or trunk. Next time you be able to lower your floor jack down to both stands. Then proceed to changing oil and filter.
Thank you for sharing!
What tip size were you using
413
Thanks for the video. I just bought a 2023 es300h and I was researching how to do some of the maintenance. In looking around, I found there is very little content online. This video is a big help. Now, if I could find out if my car has normal car battery for starting the gas engine? And how does someone jump start the car?
Thanks for sharing 👍
1:08 there is absolutely no need to take that front plastic off. I'd also recommend buying ramps for oil changes. The jack is always in the way. I'd also take twenty seconds to take the other 10mm bolt out to get that cover completely out of the way
Thanks for the video David. My wife has the same exact lexus. Its nice having a toyota 4Runner that has the exact same oil filter as well. Toyota for the Win!
I know this is an older video but I am about to do my fence, would you say the 413 tip is ideal for the job? I believe I have a 311 tip just not sure it will put out enough stain.
It's only .002" difference. A human hair is .003 to .004" so don't sweat it. Add an extra coat and you'll be good. If you're using ready seal then a 311 should be ok. It's a thin product
One other thing....the first number of the tip for example 3, 4, 5 refers to the width of the spray pattern. I believe 3 is a 6" wide fan and 4 is a 8". In other words you will have to spray more passes to cover it but it goes on so fast and easy I can't imagine that causing an issue. Let me know how it does. I still haven't had to recoat mine which is incredible for a 6 year old stain. It's such a great product. My only regret is that I did 2 coats. Kinda wish I would have done 1 more. I used way less product than ready seal said I would use in their literature. A 3rd coat would have been more in line with their coverage estimate
@@DavidParsonsNC I’ll update you. I have done some research and seen about the spray width for the first number. I was just in between on the other and wondering if I would get enough stain coming out for coverage, but I guess it all depends on how fast your movement is when applying. I may pick up a .13 tip as well just in case the .11 isn’t applying as I’d like.
@@DavidParsonsNC so I conquered my fence today, used a graco sprayer and the 311 tip. Tip did fine. I do believe say a 413 would had applied the product faster. The good throng about the 311 tip it didn’t has too much overspray. I believe if I had the bigger tip it would not had taken as long to do the job. I did apply the product fairly heavy and it covered well, the literature said two coats but honestly I don’t feel I’ll do another coat. We are happy with how it turned out.
@@nicktruitt5589 Awesome. That's good to know. I had a lot of over spray. Actually I thoroughly killed the grass at the bottom. It was like round up on steroids. Glad it worked out well for you.
I'm thinking about getting this car and I'm used to doing basic car maintenance but this seems like a big pita. Looks like I'll be bringing it to a Lexus dealer (as they want you to do). Thanks for the vid showing what it's like.
It's actually easy
its not bad. its one bolt. 3 push pins and the cover will swing right out the way. car ramps would probable be fast. unless you have a lift.
The car is fantastic. don't let an oil change, change your decision on purchasing it!
Hello, and thank you for the video ! Which oil filter wrench would you recommend ? Or maybe you could send a link where you bought yours. Thank you !
This is the one I bought on Amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BHHN7S2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@DavidParsonsNC Thanks !
Looks nice! How has it held up over the years? Are you power washing and restaining annually or what has your upkeep been? It isn't hard to make it look nice while new, the challenge is 1,2, 3 or more years down the road.
It has held up great. I wish I would have put one more coat on initially. I had to go back with a brush and touch-up the knots a year or so later but I also used a lot less than ReadySeal said I should. That was probably because a sprayer puts a much finer layer than a brush does. I have never re-stained it. It still looks stained it just doesn't look so artificially orange like cedar stain looks when first applied. It has never turned gray like untreated cedar would. I may pressure wash and reapply this year but that would mean it lasted 5 years. I would do this again 10 out of 10 times. It is a great product especially when compared to products like thompson water seal that hold up 1 or 2 years tops.
Thanks couldn’t find the filter on my 2019 Avalon this helped me
My friend, check your Pittsburgh Jack it may be among recalled models. Good vid
David do you remember what flow setting you used?
Sorry I do not. It's been so long ago
Thank you! Could not find a video for latest avalon so yours was helpful.
always rest the car on the jack stands just a little so it’s stable in case the hydraulics on the jack goes out. don’t want the car tipping or slipping if the car falls on it.
I do not understand why he didn't rest the car on the jack stands, there are 4 jack points all around, instead risking his life on the floor jack alone. If the car fall those "standing by" jack stands won't do anything good.
Thank you, that is a big help.
Thanks for the video. Was thinking of doing the initial oil change for my 2020 Avalon which is almost the same car but saw that people mentioned online it wasn't easy. Now I see what they meant. Would appreciate any more tips you might have or a start to finish video.
Thanks for posting. I’ve changed the oil twice on my Wife’s 2018 ES350. I didn’t need to remove any of the plastic under the car. I have a 2019 ES350 and was wondering what I would need to do to get to the filter. I suspect mine is like yours. You know you can drain the filter before you remove the canister from the engine which makes the job much less messy. On my Wife’s car when I tried to remove the plug at the bottom of the canister with a 3/8” ratchet, the entire filter came loose. So I used a pry bar to immobilize the filter housing to remove the cap from the bottom. The new filter comes with a push-in device to open the valve but they are hard to push in, so I purchased a metal screw-in device that really works slick to drain the cartridge. When I put the plug back on the bottom of the cartridge after installing the new little O-ring, I put anti-seize compound on the threads of the plug. There is no danger of this contaminating the oil because it is “outside” the O-ring. Then I torqued both the housing and plug to spec. with a torque wrench. 18 foot pounds for the cartridge housing but only 9 foot pounds (half as much obviously) for the plug at the bottom of the housing. At the subsequent oil change I was easily able to remove the plug without the housing turning. It’s really a clever design. I also purchased an extra oil filter housing, since both of our cars use the same one. That way I can clean and prepare the new filter ahead of time, which speeds up the oil change. I might post a video about this. I doubt many Lexus owners change their own oil. But I’ve done it my whole life and have had some problems when it was done by “the professionals.”
David, A huge thank you! I just bought a 2021 F-Sport and wanted to change the oil at 500 miles and since its sunny and 65 here in Lawrenceville, GA i thought perfect timing! Anyway, I had to flip all the way to page 9 of GOOGLE to find your post... Either way, it was worth the time! THANK YOU! Steve
Thanks for the tips. I will look into buying the screw-in device for the drain valve. I didn't know that existed.
Lol. So true many hasn’t, but I’m looking to see if it’s something my husband can do. I have this same exact car in the video and my husband keeps fussing at me because I want to take it to the dealership. I’m just afraid the ppl who change oil will do something to my car. Which he’s right because he ask how many cars have I ever taken to the dealership for an oil change. He took his 2020 Denali diesal to the GMC dealership and they had his brand new truck throwing all kinds of codes. In which they unplugged something and didn’t put it back.
Hey do you know how to check how many mileage have been driven since the oil change? For Ex it got reset to 9999 miles and I’m trying to figure how many miles i have driven since the oil change after the 10 k mark because I was told I should change my oil like every 5-7k miles before the 10 k mark
Looks great. Is the ceiling pine? Did you only apply urethane, or is there a stain involved too? I’d like to get the same look. Would love to know. Thank you.
It's just knotty pine with waterbase Helmsman clear spar urethane. I used waterbase because I didn't want it to continue to amber over time. I let it age for about a year before clear coating and that made it more amber or golden than when first installed. I didn't plan on letting it age (air will turn it gold/amber over time when not protected with clear coat). It has not changed in color in the couple years since clear coat was applied.
Looking good
Hi 👋🏼!!! What color are you using on your fence an what brand???
Ready seal natural cedar. I highly recommend their sealers.
Hi! Does it hold up pretty well? Durable?
The stain or the sprayer? The stain has done well. It's been on 4 years and still looks good but could use a recoat. I think the manufacturer says 3 years on vertical surfaces.
I am going to stain 545 linear feet of fence with the same setup you have. i plan on using an oil based stain. Did you ground any of your equipment when staining the fence? I am a little confused on what needs to be grounded and how to ground it. Does the paint can need to be grounded? I will not have any concrete to set it on, just a grass lawn. Any help would be appreciated. Great video.
I didn't ground anything. Not sure why you would? I mean the plug for the sprayer has a ground built in through the receptical maybe. Definitely never heard of grounding a can of stain/paint
@@DavidParsonsNC Thanks for the reply. I re-read the manual and it talks about grounding when flushing the sprayer, with solvent not when painting. Still a little confused. Here is what it says: Sparks from improper grounding can ignite fumes! Follow all local regulations regarding the use of fluid supply containers and solvent pails used with flushing the Paint Sprayer. Use only conductive metal pails placed on a grounded (concrete) surface. Do not place pails on nonconductive surfaces (such as cardboard or paper). Ground all metal pails by clamping one end of a ground wire to the pail and the other end to a grounded structure (such as a nearby pipe). Maintain grounding, even when flushing or relieving pressure from Paint Sprayer into metal pail. The force of the spray can knock a metal pail over, so hold down the metal pail and keep the metal part of the spray gun set against the grounded metal pail when pressing the spray gun trigger.Sparks from improper grounding
@@Don-he2zx I don't know Don. Just sounds like lawyer CYA to me. I'd bet you would be the only person in history to run an external ground system for a paint sprayer but you should do what makes you feel comfortable.
looks good, do you have a finish pic or vid you can post?
Nice video. Does "airless" mean you don't need an air compressor?
Yes. That is exactly what it means.
@@DavidParsonsNC thanks. I'm looking into which kind would be good for fence staining as well. Looks like that one works good!
@@GenX4ever yes it works well and it uses Graco brand parts since its just a knock off. At the time it was the best value on the market. I haven't researched it in years though so that could have changed
Did the wand come with the sprayer? Thanks
No I bought it separately. Most Graco brand parts are compatible.
What kind of wood is that fence? I am going to stain my deck made out of pressure treated pine and I want to use a ready seal color that is lighter than the dark walnut. How does the cedar stain vary from cedar to pine?
It's Western cedar. In not sure how pine would look. You can probably find some pics online but they will vary depending on age of PT Pine etc.
Hi David. Thanks for the video. I know it was a while ago, but do you recall what coverage (sqft/gal) you got using the airless sprayer? I don't want to use the airless if it is going to use a lot for stain than if I went a different route.
It used a lot less actually. I put on 2 coats and used like 60% the amount of stain ready seal recommended. In hindsight I would have done 3 and it would have been closer to the specs. I would definitely say you use less with the sprayer. I know painters claim you get a lot more paint on your house with a brush than a sprayer and I would agree with stain.
Great job! We are looking for something like this. Can you tell me what size pickets those are?
This is western red cedar pickets from Home Depot. They are 5/8" thick. 5-1/2" wide X 6 feet tall. The fence is built using a board on board style so there isn't a visible gap at all. Takes a little more lumber but looks better and offers more privacy.
Very nice. Do you like the sprayer? Also, why didn't you cover the lights?.. Oh and wear a resperator.
Don Pazicni HI Don, I like the sprayer a lot. In hindsight I would have probably spent the extra money and bought the Graco just because I use it a lot and I think the Graco is a little nicer. I didn't cover the light housing just the threads where the light bulb screws in because I am using Cree Led lights that come with the can and flange in one unit. I don't wear a respirator outside when using water base because I've never felt like I was breathing it. When using Oil base or if I'm inside I always wear one. Thanks for the comment.
David Parsons Which Graco? Because I believe the one you have has a 5/8 motor. The cheapest Graco with that motor is the x7 at $400. Ty for the reply.
Don Pazicni You are probably right. I'm just going off the one I glanced at while shopping at Lowe's. It was 249. In hindsight it does seem like the HF sprayer reviewed better when I was shopping for them.
Nice color.
What were you using and how was the clean up? You should try the extension, would save your shoulders
Doug it's in the description. Water based Spar Urethane with 211 graco tip so the cleanup was simple with water. I have an extension and sprayed the first coat with it. Found it easier to spray without it opposed to holding the gun at forehead level.
David, looks great. Once the product dried did the color and finish stay the way it looks in the video? or did it lose some of its punch?
It loses a little punch over the first month and it looks a little more natural. 2 years later it still looks good although I did touch up the knots last summer with a brush. They lost a lot of their color because they are so much harder so they didn't take the stain quite as deep. I would definitely use the product again if I had to do it over.
@@DavidParsonsNC Would the Pecan color given you a little darker and longer lasting stain? I'm trying to decide on my cedar fence.
hi david what color seal are you using on your fence
Ready Seal Natural Cedar
Would this also work if I just want to seal my fence? (Not stain it a different color). Have a cedar fence, but also wood panelling at the front of my house that I'd like to seal...
I only have experience with ready seal. When I was researching sealer most of the ones that reviewed well also stained the fence due to the oils necessary to preserve the wood. I know they make clear sealers that are similar to thinned elmers glue but I do not have experience with those so I can't comment on them.
Hi David, I have a new fence and a new deck (both PT Pine) looking to use ready seal and I already bought the HF sprayer. I have a few questions if you don't mind... How old is your fence (looks fairly new)? Fence size? How much paint did you need? and how does it look like now after almost a year? Thanks for both videos the fence looks great and the porch ceiling looks beautiful! Be Well!!
Hi Daniel, thanks. My fence was a year old when I sealed it. It's cedar and had started to gray so I pressure washed it first per ready seals instructions. I only used about half the amount of sealer that RS stated. An airless sprayer doesn't apply nearly as much per coat as a roller or brush so I would do 3 coats. I only used 2 at the time. Another coat would have been closer to the amount RS suggested. It has held up really well but will need to be resealed next year I predict. That would be 3 years. Pressure treated will take the sealer different than cedar because it's already 'treated' so it's not as thirsty. I used a 413 Graco tip but the one that came with the sprayer would have been fine.
Awesome job bro. Next time use a shield for the top. That's so the neighbors won't be pissed because of your overspray.
heck with the neighbors if they aren't helping with their side of the fence!
What airless sprayer are you using, also is the pressure adjustable on it? I’m thinking of going that route instead of building a 12v pump system
Yes, the pressure is adjustable all from high spray to roll. It is an exact copy of the Graco Magnum X5 and uses Graco spray tips. Here is the link and it can bought for 169.99 most of the time. It is on sale at least monthly. I would definitely recommend it however I would have probably spent the extra money and bought the Graco if I would have known how much I was going to use it. It's still a great system and it's unrivaled for the price when on sale. I went with the Harbor Freight version because it reviewed so well. www.harborfreight.com/airless-paint-sprayer-kit-60600.html
David Parsons your awesome man. Thank you for the info and the link I will probably go this route.
No Problem. I just uploaded another video of my last project. I sprayed 5 coats of clear urethane on a 450 square foot tongue & groove pine porch ceiling. I used the same sprayer but with a smaller 211 tip. It turned out fantastic. It took 7 minutes per coat. That's how fast you can paint with this thing. Never clogged once. I can't imagine trying to roll that ceiling. I'd probably still be working on it. Here is the link. ua-cam.com/video/IIvKdsn8L5w/v-deo.html
David Parsons I’ll definitely check that video out also
