46:00 I really don't know of any desk-mounts that don't "stick out". Even the Monstertech ones (which go straight down from the desk) have a pretty substantial/deep baseplate for the gimbal, so they too will push you from your desk. I guess this is unavoidable, since you need some room up top for the stick to maneuver in or otherwise you'd hit the desk or the mount with your knuckles or grip every time you push the stick forward. Problem for me is that even with my VKB UCM-S (short) mount, I'm getting pushed pretty far from my desk - especially now that I added a 100mm extension to my Gunfighter. As much as I'd love to try the 200mm extension, I just don't see how that could work for me without cutting out a piece from my chair's seat. I mean.. I'm sitting so far from the desk already that I had to put my monitor on an extendable arm, because even without the stick extension and the mount set a bit shorter than its maximum length, the monitor would be too far away from me in its "surf the web/work" location on my desk. With the 100mm installed, I set my mount to the absolute maximum length I could get (one notch beyond what VKB recommend, but it's still solid, lol), pushing me even further away and that barely works with my monitor-mount. If I went with the long mount and 200mm extension, I'm not sure that monitor-arm would extend far enough... :D
I'm glad you're so impressed with the Virpil. I have the same stick with the older cm1 base for three years now and like you, it's a night and day difference to the Warthog stick. What i always hated about the Warthog is that as soon as you move one axis, the other axis lost all centering. I was an avionics tech on the F/A-18A/B for 9 years, the real stick didn't lose roll centering while pulling pitch or vice versa. Also, the amount of force required IRL is huge for full deflection. I'm still using the Warthog throttle, but damn, your video is tempting me to get the Virpil throttle. You should try their ACE pedals as well, they're awesome. Same for the control panel #2.
I will keep a keen eye out for the rest of the serie since I have a similar setup. The difference is I have the CM-2 base and MFG Crosswind pedals. Always ready to learn something new about this faboulus gedgets.
1:06:49. Correction, the different springs deal with the pressure, there’s no difference in force needed to get to max travel between the different Aviasim cams which just have different centers, the only way to change the pressure with the cams is if you put in the Cosmosim cams that have a linear pressure along the full travel for no atmosphere space sims.
I got the warbrd-D base with the alpha prime stick on the way hopefully today. Coming from a thrustmaster t16000 so the difference should be immense! Can’t wait
@@OverkillSimulations Yep, just take the bottom plate, then remove the spring tension bolts or whatever they are called and the arm is made to fold downwards enough to get to the two cam bolts and change the cam, this very design might have something to do with why they went for a single cam per axis design vs the dual cam in the WarBRD, I’m hoping we don’t have the asymmetrical force problem the CM2 had though because of this design in this one or at least it’s not too noticeable.
Virpil, I'm a paying custom, I'm still waiting, 6 weeks and counting. Looking forward to them some day! Overkill, thank you all. Love DCS and Star Citizen.
Had Virpil stuff for a couple of years now, solid controllers, I don’t think touchy is the quite the correct word for the stick bases but I get why you are saying that coming from something where the gimbal and sensors are not as smooth and as accurate as these, something to get used too I’m sure. For me, I came from a Thrustmaster HOTAS X so it was a big jump in quality. I have a couple of CM3 stick bases coming tomorrow to replace the WarBRD bases I have, and I hope that the clutches will allow easier on the arms helicopter flying, just hoping there not much noticeable stiction like there is on their collectives which I had to mod to remove.
