    My real life veteran commercial pilot best friend just texted me while I'm watching your video and I told him that I am waiting for my kit for my flight simulation cockpit right now and he sends me pictures inside of his real life cockpit and the outside of his plane that he recently completed training for (AIRBUS A321neo)! I am so ready for UPS to deliver my stuff to me today! LOL! My kit cost a little more than 2,400.

    Since I replaced my warthog with them, absolutely.. Including the Ace interceptor pedals. The WarBYD base and Mongoos Stick. For Christmas, I got the throttle Cm-t-50cm3.
    Since I am a rotor head, I am picking up more panels and the Ka-50 collective.
    To the point, hands down, yes, they are more than worth the money.
    A very well done video, and I want to thank you for it..

    If you're a DCS multi-module flyer, and want conveniences of barely having to change much to have a great throttle or usable collective for whatever, the CM3 throttle is a no brainer. I don't think there's a single module you'll find the grip and throttle base lacking in terms of precise form and function. The mode dial is godlike for extra buttons -- though note, I don't use shift states in Viripl software, I actually just make them change the LED color and make those buttons modifiers in DCS. I would buy buy and buy this throttle over and over again over anything else on the market. I was a TM Warthog owner for 10+ years and enjoyed it, but super happy to have upgraded.
    Winwing Orion2 throttle is something I was looking at closely. The swappability between grips is very nice, and the F-16 throttle is sweep but you won't be switching between F-16 to F/A-18 throttle grips easily. Orion2 throttle base(s) are only a better choice if you know you want a replica of a module you know you fly and can kind of ignore the other. Or you get more than one and just completely swap out throttles quickly which kind of defeats the modularity.
    Also, Virpil's software configuration is best in class. You can do exactly what you want on a device level (if you have to). For example, I have Virpil pedals and I configure them to also activate a button beyond 90% pressure on the toe brakes in case the simulator I'm using only has a button for toe brakes rather than an axis. If things were really dire, I could even have the rudder axes positions trigger joystick buttons too to accomplish the same. Through software, I configure engine start / idle / off buttons along the throttle axes with the detent sets that I use, and I activate it with one of the switches. This allows me to use the full axes range with no detends for helis, or a limited range after the idle-detent, for jets literally with a flip of a switch. And just like this video says, this configuration is saved on the device which is super clean.
    Where you could save is joystick base + grip. While WarBRD base is super high quality, and the ConstellationAlpha looks compelling, I prefer the WinWing F-16EX with Orion1 base for generic usage (A-10C, F-16C, Ka-50, soon AH-64D) because it has so many buttons and the Apache is a module that certainly can use it. But I also have a WarBRD base with a TM F/A-18 grip for the F/A-18. I don't know if I have a preference between either joystick base, but I do like the fact that the A-10 + F-16 are replica+ sticks, and the F/A-18 is a replica+ as well. I don't desire to have replica for modules that are super unique and would just be a pain in the ass.
    "Shift state" - refers to something you can do through VPC control software where the device is somewhat aware that a modifier key is being pressed

    He’s absolutely spot on. I also perfer the military look like the TMWH and the CM3 throttle was space simmy lookin but I immediately got use to the Virpil look and feel. Once you get to this level your done with hardware and focus on other things. My next purchase will probably be one of the panels. One thing I will recommend is Monstertech mounts over the Virpil mounts for sure.

      @Reurbo Рік тому

      i've got to ask because i hear great things about the v4 desk mount. kinda on the fence on that vs the monstertech desk mount. would you give any specifics on your reason to recommend one over the other? both look like solid choices, but only he Virpil v4 desk mount looks to have removable rubber pads on both sides of the clamp while monstertech only looked to have a rubber protector on the underside part of the mount but not the top pressing down on the desk.

    • @Mako-sz4qr
      @Mako-sz4qr Рік тому

      @@Reurbo - Hi , yeah one reason is that the Virpi mount are posited farther away from the desk and also according to some UA-cam video about the Virpil brackets is that they move from side to side. I have been using Monstertech deskmounts for a few years and I can promise you that even that they are a little more expensive then Virpil mounts well there’s a reason behind that the product is High Quality strong and once clamped down to the desk they do not move … none !
      I invested in Virpil - RealSimulator flight gear for DCS and I wanted the best desk mounts on the market.

    • @Mako-sz4qr

While I didn't want price to sway me, because I knew Virpil make quality products they continue to improve on and knew nothing about Monstertech I didn't want to just jump at the Virpil mounts and dismiss anything else if there was a legitimate difference. It sounds like while I'll still get the stick and base from Virpil I've been wanting, I'll put the Monstertech desk mount on my wish list

    Great review man! I've been on the fence between the Winwing and Virpil throttle options for a while, but I think you sold me on the Virpil.
    I actually had the Thrust master warthog and loathed the "sticktion" caused by the gamble style they used. It's literally a plastic plate that slides up and down on metal posts. Even coated in Nyogel the sticktion never went away. And it's not like it's that much cheaper than Virpil either.
    I did make a bit of a mistake picking up the Virpil WarBRD base. It's the oldest model, but I purchased it because the newer options mentioned a shorter throw (travel range), and I thought the longer travel of the WarBRD would fight my ham fisted flying style a little better. However, the WarBRD base doesn't have tensioners or clutches. The T50CM2 adds in tensioners, and the cm3 adds in a clutch as well. The problem with the WarBRD not having them is that there is a bit of a bounce at center. When you let go of the stick, it bounces around the center for a second or two. To be far, I added a 10 curve in dcs and the bounce doesn't really cause any issues, but it is a bit of a pain in Star Citizen. So I'll likely be ordering a cm3 along with the throttle and move the WarBRD to be a left hand center stick for SC and use the cm3 as my primary right hand stick. And add an extension since I prefer a longer throw stick.
    As far as lead time, I ordered my WarBRD base in the middle of Nov and it showed up in the middle of Jan. But that's to be expected. The flight sim community isn't large enough to mass produce high end products. Arguably the warthog from thrustmaster is about the highest end mass produced stick, but like you've pointed out, the performance is significantly better with Virpil. But at that price point, the percentage of the community that will purchase it lowers the target market to a point that mass production becomes impractical due to the initial investment required to scale up. Shops like Virpil, MFG, and Winwing are relatively small operations serving the community with some of the best hardware money can buy. (As a MFG Crosswinds owner, I for one am thankful for these bespoke custom shops. Best rudder pedals by a country mile, and I've used several as a reference) So some patience is certainly required. These shops don't have long lead times because they enjoy making people wait. The lead times are a product of a small shop with a well built popular product and a target audience that isn't large enough to scale up production. Having said that, the sim community is a great group of people and these shops go above and beyond to design and build the best possible hardware for our cockpits.

    Have owned the Constellation Alpha w/ WarBRD base for 2 years, and recently got the CM3 Throttle as well. Mostly play MSFS and Star Citizen, along with other space sims. The precision of both the joystick and throttle is leagues above anything else I have tried, and I don't see how it's possible to get it any better for a price regular people can afford.
    Some minor gripes here and there, especially on the throttle, but it's very much overshadowed by the positives. I hope they last a long time.

    The Thrust Master products and the Saitek/Logitech products were designed and built at a different time in Flight sim history. We are now in the "Golden Age" of Flight Sims and it's a different ball game. As a result, the hardware has to be upgraded to handle the multitude of inputs that are part of the Sim World today. I have the Winwing setup and I agree the build quality are light years ahead of those cheap plastic controls. You will spend far more money on upgrading your computer set up than you will with the HOTAS hardware you get with the Virpil and Winwing hardware after you spen your hard earned money for them.

    Nice video. Completely out of my price range, but one can dream for one day! One question, have we "seen" that HDMI screen in another video? Is it touch? Can you export DCS screens to it? Thanks.

      I'm pretty sure it is touchscreen. As for exporting screens from dcs, that gets a bit complicated. You can send the mfds to secondary screens, but you need to use 3rd party utilities for getting control panels designed for touch input on them, such as Gameglass (though Gameglass is more geared toward star citizen and doesn't have much in the way of pre built screens for dcs.) It's actually a tad easier in dcs to get control options onto Android devices than a secondary touch screen monitor. There's a couple options for realtime maps on androids, and I don't know if it's still supported but there used to be a utility for getting the NS430 into a secondary hdmi display.

    Controls are the most important item in your flight sim… more than the computer.
    Computers will be replaced much faster than controllers buy the best you can find.
    Controllers last sometimes for decades… nothing else on your sim will.

    Yes, they are. I cannot believe people still claim the Thrustmaster warthog in the best stick on the market lol. Mechanism is garbage compared to the everlasting silky cam-bearing design in the warbrd base.

    Great video. How did you mount the take off panel and combat panel to your throttle base attachment?
    I’m trying to figure out a solution for my rig.

      @@OverkillSimulations Just checked it out. Funny, I have the same idea. I ordered 2080 aluminum extensions as the bracket on the back of the panels mount directly to it. The 45 degree bracket link you have is what I was looking for.

      Not sure how I can share it with you, but maybe you’d like to add it as an option on your patreon.

      then the problem is on your software most likely. I run linux so I can't say for sure, but I've had very few issues. quick web search shows multiple people where it just worked. if it's working in other games, steam can check files right click> properties > installed files > verify integrity... dunno about ea's or ms version, but I imagine there's similar. stop any other software from running too. use the task manager to disable startup programs, reboot, see if that works. then either start the disabled programs, or re enable reboot, one at a time till it stops working. there's a lot more you can try too. web search it. you could also try to run it from a cmd window, and see if it outputs any errors...like i said lots you can try.

      but i'm sure the problem is your system, not the game or the hotas.
