Thanks for this; it's a good introduction for me. Never silk screened before, but have had a need for print on various types of panels a couple dozen times. This is getting me started for sure.
Can you use a red light during the setup process? Just thinking the red LED headlight I have in my flight bag for night flying would work good to see for setup if so. Great content, enjoyed the process!
Who else was scared to death he was going to mess up the wife’s bathroom? Thanks for showing this process the way an average person would do it without a high dollar setup. I needed to learn this for a panel.
I have a dream that I could manufacture everything I need in a home shop to start my boutique guitar amplifier business. Screen printing control panels is a piece of the puzzle. I searched for it on UA-cam, and what do you know, I found this video. Thanks for this info.
A first class video showing one way of getting professional standard panel markings at a budget price, my approach to this was CAD milling of the panel and milling the markings through the paint with contrasting colour paint laid into the lettering. Without doubt a more expensive process. Only time will tell if it is a more robust method, I suspect that if I do change my Avionic fit the new panel construction from start to finish will be much quicker as now I have the basic CAD file modification is relatively simple………………… but I don’t see that happening any time soon, Garmin have enough of my money.
For a one-off type of installation we will hand fab the panel. If we were a production shop we would cad/cam. Can't really recoup the cad layout time on a one-time fabrication. We can fabricate quite efficiently. That being said, we do all our artwork on computer. I burn screens, print, and then strip the screens for the next job. I can easily edit and reprint a file, then burn the screen again lickety split. Another item we will do (lifted it from Cessna panels) is label radio circuit breakers as Radio 1, Radio 2, etc. and not NavCom 1, etc. Because life changes... Thanks for watching!
I would have liked to see the steps she mentioned as they were fast. When she made the new aluminum panel, did that have to be engineered and an approval given to use it in a certified aircraft? Thanks for your time and videos.
Someone else mentioned this already but most "Dark Rooms" have a red light illuminating the work area. Just like the old days of Red Instrument panel lights. You may want to get one for a table lamp to be used when getting the 'screen' ready for exposure. Just a thought and keep the videos coming!
@@HangaRatz thanks for answering. Is silk screening reversible (erasable)? Also are the screens and frames custom size? Say to add a word for a switch or something. Thanks again.
Great demo. If you continue to post these I would suggest you get a decent mike and try not to mumble in the back and forth. Sadly it was impossible to hear what you were saying. I would also suggest a couple of zoom shots. We never really got to see the final panel!
Noted! This was an early (and quick video) effort on my channel. Sometimes I just grab the camera and hope for the best. Hopefully the closed captions captured the audio?... Thanks for watching!

Not that hard. Just start. No need to spend a ton of money. Start small. Most local screen print suppliers have beginner classes. Thanks for watching!
Get to work on that tub!🤣 Nice video!
Thanks! Hope to see you at MVPA!
Looks great! Thanks for sharing! Patiently waiting for the next engine build video though!!
Thanks! Working on the next engine video as we speak. Should be next Wednesday or Thursday!
G,day Bill from Sydney Australia.
Very interesting seeing the traditional way of labelling the panel.

Yes John, old school (modern materials!) method. Thanks for watching!

I just need to go buy a second yellow bulb. Decided to video this at the last minute!...
Thank you so very much!!
You're welcome!

You can do it!
Excellent video! I learned soo much. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! Should we make a more detailed version?
Looking good!
Thanks!
Great work.
Thanks!

Hand fabricated. 14CFR21.9 for approval.
Thanks for the information. Have a nice week ahead.
What kind of ink did you use?
Good to see the process.. What do you do if you mess up one of the words while screen printing? Will the ink wash off with a solvent?
We can remove the print with solvent easily immediately after we print it and try again. Once it dries it is like regular paint. Thanks for watching!
Keep up the great content!
Thanks, will do!
Great looking panel. Does this panel require any modifications to flight control hardware behind the panel?
Install Cessna 150 Y yoke
Do you need to fix the emulsion after exposure?
No. Just rinse it out.
Could you explain how you aligned the panel with the screen to insure placement was correct?
I believe we checked square on each screening and taped the panel down.

Yup, I just need to go buy a second yellow bulb. Next time!...
Can this be used on an already installed panel ?
Not easily. The limiter is the screen frame and trying to stabilize it. Thanks for asking though!

Hey I met that lovely lady in Benton at the fly in.
Ah yes. We were there also! Thanks for watching!

Should have diluted the paint.
