Thanks Kevin! We've went through somewhat of a disaster with getting an engine overhauled. Has been a big setback schedule wise and financially, but I hope to finally be through all of that sometime this summer! The wiring is mostly complete but we haven't posted anything on that as I was hoping to finish the little bit of firewall forward wiring to capture all of it in one video. At any rate, I hope to be working on the project again soon and I certainly plan to continue with documenting our process. Appreciate your kind comments.
@@ColbyOsbornwhat happened with the rebuild? I stalled on my bearhawk patrol project in favor of getting my kolb in the air. Everything costs too much now!
Just wanted to throw out there that as another BH5 builder this series is just as helpful as any documentation available. This is a huge contribution to the community and we really appreciate it. Can't say how many times I've looked at something 10 times until I pull out one of your videos and it becomes so clear. Looking forward to seeing the plane at Oshkosh one of these years!
Thanks man! Very happy to hear a few fellow builders are finding some value in the videos. Appreciate the kind words and hope you’re enjoying your project.
The wood veneer looks super cool and unique plus it goes great with the stick grips. I can't believe you DIY'd the panel that hard. It looks amazing and you are a genius (I didn't follow half of the digitizing panels and taking pictures minimizing distortion wizardry). Everything looks so clean and well thought out.
Only just found your channel, great content, thanx. I’m building with no kit so I dare say there’ll be more questions, but for starters, is your dog growling when you point the camera at him? Or trying to smile for the photo? Haha
Thanks! It’s a “smile.” A submissive gesture not uncommon amongst some of the herding breeds. I greatly admire the skills and determination of a scratch builder. Hope to hear more about your project someday.
@@ColbyOsborn Oh, so do I! But I’m not scratch building. I bought a slightly damaged, very dusty, Frankenstein’s monster, and I’m bringing it back to life with some STOL accessories and modern tech.
The wood looks great! Also, you say you aren't a cad guy then do a bunch of cad. Pretty impressive. I think you might beat me into the air. I have my panel completely done, but I'm still in fabric.
Love the videos and the interesting editing. Love the Bearhawk planes and your videos are inspiring and educational. I hope to hope to see more of this plane through completion and excited to see it fly. Been a year since this last video was posted. Hope the journey has not ended. Curious to see what engine was selected. Im guessing the 540.
The build looks great, and thanks for taking the time to create and share the videos. What are you using for electrical over current protection? Fuses? Circuit breakers?
Thanks David. I'm using ATC style blade fuses. I've considered using a circuit breaker for the alternator field, but haven't decided. I hope to discuss my electrical system in a future video.
Thanks! The GDU 460 screens have GPS receivers and we'll be installing an antenna and using one of those. We've also installed the Garmin GPS 20A position source for the ADS-B transponder.
Thanks John! We’re using the TCW control valve servo kits. Kind of pricey in my opinion, but seems like the RV folks really like them for this application.
Great videos Colby, building a BH Model B here! A quick question: Where do you download the Garmin CAD files? I have searched and searched and searched... Thanks!
We're held up waiting on my overhauled engine to get finished. Was told 6 weeks and it's been 67... Hoping I can pick it up any day now! Appreciate the kind words.
We don’t have a scheme set in stone yet, but envisioning a black nose with a stripe or two that continues back to the tail. So there will most likely be a little bit of Oratex that gets painted.
I just found your channel and think this is super cool! What an awesome plane I didn’t know anything about! About how much is it costing you to build this? Can you get these for a reasonable price? I’m coming out of college and want to get into aviation but have very small budget.
Thanks! This one will be around 160k. There are a million ways to make it cheaper, but the propeller and engine for a plane this size will generally make it more expensive to build than some of the smaller homebuilt planes.
We’ve been at a standstill on the build for quite a while now waiting on the engine shop performing an overhaul for us to complete the job. Hopefully soon!

I sure hope that you haven't abandoned your build. I was enjoying your videos on the build process. If you have done more building, please post it.

Great build documentation. I hope you guys put out a new video soon
I also was enjoying your build videos. I hope you two are healthy and in good spirits.
Great video and explanation, man of many talents.
Ya, glad your doing Ok. Looking good and have come a long way. Thanks for the update Colby.

Enjoy your videos. I currently fly an RV6 and Rans S7S. I’ll probably sell my half of the S7 to my build partner and build some version of Bearhawk.
One sophisticated build..impressive !!

Colby, your panel looks amazing man, excellent craftsmanship brother!
You demonstrated several very good fabrication methods in this one. I’m inspired ♠️
Thank you, I was trying to think how to get a photo of the panel, this helps a lot!
looks great, thanks for posting

Great video, Nice job too
Thanks Nathan!
What kind of vinyl cutter do you have? It does a great job on the labelling
Thanks! It's a Cricut Maker.

How many hours building so far?
