This is the sort of video many of your viewers prefer. Do the build without over analyzing _EVERY_ aspect of it! Very nice use of your blued lumber, you might want to consider keeping as much of it as possible for the final deck project!
I like the full explanations, it helps me sort things in my head before I attempt doing like wise, so I imagine there are many like myself who like the " over analyzing aspect " :)

Nice! Wish more of your videos were like this. 90% work and 10% talk. A 10 min time lapse of actual work is way better than a 45 min video of Jesse explaining things
The lack of endless explanation in this video made is so so much more enjoyable.... back to when it was all less chat and more ‘doing’ More of the same please
I actually enjoyed watching you build something even as simple as the deck and stairs without having to spend half the video talking about it. Well done for once...
It was enjoyable to have a video where 2/3's of it wasn't talking. Nice deck..things don't have to be permanent and it will be nice for you to have access outside without going through the garage.
would have brought the railing posts down to the 2x8? joists below and bolted them on...those screws into end grain 2x4 arent going to prevent someone from falling into the railing and taking it with them down a 5 foot fall.
I have been subscribed for years and never commented (aside from the Kershaw knives).. but of all your videos, short and long, funny and serious. I have to say this is the most practical that I’ve watched. I really understand the balance of want vs. need here and I appreciate your mind set. I think it’s awesome what you are doing and encourage you to keep up with it! Note, this comment is coming from S.Korea where I am stationed, and I have been watching your channel from multiple locations over time. To include: Florida, New Mexico, Washington, Malaysia, Japan, Philippines, Australia, Indonesia, and finally here S,Korea. Pat yoursleves on the back!!!
Phil Collins (Sussudio?) wait - wait - wait - did I miss Jess marking and cutting and explanation on how it was design, cutting charts, materials listing, money saved and ... and ..... nice to see Jess getting back to basics. He’s one hard working dude. Still gets an A for effort when the gabbing over.
The one thing I will say about Jesse , after watching from the very beginning... Temporary or permanent you sir put your heart into anything you do !! Love it
I've seen every episode since day 1, and since the roof project, I was starting to get bored. Don't take this the wrong way Jesse... Too much taking and too much repetition since then. Mind you, still very informative. But this video... This is gold! Thank you for renewing my interest in your channel again!
Really liked this video, not so much Jessie talking but just doing. So satisfying! Awesome and good to hear from you too Alyssa! I did want to see the porch extend to the hot tub deck. We always wanted a way from our deck to our pool.
I would seriously think about getting either a grip tape or some type of paint with a granula substrate in it to put on the stair treads because i know from bitter experience that when the wood gets wet over time and gets a slippy surface on it.
Great work. From someone who has lived with wood steps for years; I might suggest some non-skid strips on the wood. They are cheep and will save your bottom when the steps get wet and slick as snot.
We just bought 12 acres in Alaska and live in our 40 footer with 2 kids, our plan is to build our house with our own two hands as well! You guys have come a long way! 😊
Jesse, go back and fix your handrail posts. You anchored into end grain wood and don't have enough contact surface. It's more than dangerous. If you slip on ice or snow and expect that to save you, it's going to fail. If it wiggles at all when you shake it, it's not sound.
Have you given any thought to moving your wood pile away from the back of the house. I am worried about bugs and mice and even snakes making their homes in the wood pile. I was always told to keep my wood pile away from any buildings.
I’ve watch quite a few of your videos and wonder how you have made it this far into the build and not had any accidents. I can’t even do a small job without leaving red DNA all over the place. Work safe! And keep up the good work.
I’m glad the railing is temporary as its not very safe. If you can move the post by hand before you add the top plate they will fail when to much weight is put against them. The post should extend down further and be tied in to the framing better the two screws from two directions. There are some good you tube videos on this subject.
Hey. im no carpenter at all, so please just take this as the question its meant to be. Those 3 risers(?) are just connected to the deck with 3 screws each and a glued in peace on the bottom. So the stairs are relying on those screws alone to not snap, if the deck moves when the stairs are stressed. AM I just being paranoid?
Looks great, I bet that fresh cut lumber smells wonderful! I would recommend throwing some stain on the wood so our harsh Idaho winter doesn't damage the wood!
Wow! Bout time you put something there. Can't believe you went this long without! Been watching you guys from day one. Love it. P.s., I'm also a pilot. Keep up the good work..
that is the wankiest temporary stairs, a waste of time, and yes I agree with others on you should have already sided or at least protected your walls outside, thats gonna come back to bite ya.
After watching this I don't know if I should like or hate you. You make things all nice and level and then use some wonky cuts on the handrail... Its a nice set of steps but my OCD is twitching...
This video is much better than your usual videos. It's like one of the ones from back when your channel was gaining a lot of success.
Nice to see a video without all the explanations. Looks very nice, great job.
Nice work. Also enjoyed the time lapse format without the 20 minutes worth of explanation from Jesse in the beginning

@@McAVITYourWay. I like some explanation, the last several videos however have been almost more talk than actually doing.

Sometimes less is more, a refreshing break from technical explanations and precision instructions
Without wishing to sound mean this was so much more watchable without a 20+ minute 'stream of consciousness' from Jesse!
It's nice to see Jesse work and not explain everything as he goes. Best video in months
doncrist2012 no CAD plans, no lengthy explanation, no weird Skit. Just building something. Just like in the beginning! Love it.
More work less talk! Great video.
Timelapse + music + sparse commentary on top = better video ... I like that!
Best video in a long time. Something functional built on the house, you didn’t talk it to death, and you showed project from start to finish.
So happy you made a shorter video. Sometimes those 30+ minute videos I just can’t make it through.
@@mschelleh67 And I improoved my English by watching and listening to those long videos. xD

Returned after a year to see how the house is getting on - No Cladding?
I really liked the video format of this one. Less discussion of how to do it and more of simply watching Jesse do it was 👍
Thank you for the shorter format. Great job all around.
Like it! Less talk, more doing!
Alyssa's voiceover adds so much to the video :)
You guys are so awesome!
Nice job, love the video of action not dialogue.
would have brought the railing posts down to the 2x8? joists below and bolted them on...those screws into end grain 2x4 arent going to prevent someone from falling into the railing and taking it with them down a 5 foot fall.
I would watch unlimited 30 min videos like this!!!!
Excellent video, no yaking thanks
Are the two outside posts only attached to the decking? Hope no one leans on it if it is
It's ok the ground will catch them.
That’s what I like, more action and less talk.

You guys ever going to get siding on the house? Very little progress this year. What happened?
If you look back on one of the SIPS videos, Jesse said that they were rated for a year of exposure, so problems probably arent far off
Awesome. Now use some of that new mulch you just made to create a mud free walkway to the hot tub and front of the house.
Nice video guys! it´s better this way.. without too much rambling!
Your best video in a long time. You work and do not speak
That's just wrong 😶
working more chatting less .....love it.........

awesome video all work no talking !!!!!!!!
I like the edit.
And good call on the "live edge" balusters. They look pretty cool.
Great video it showed tons of work being completed and very little talking. Keep up the good work.
The osb needs to be covered or it will be junk. Wrap it to keep light off
I would seriously think about getting either a grip tape or some type of paint with a granula substrate in it to put on the stair treads because i know from bitter experience that when the wood gets wet over time and gets a slippy surface on it.
I now staple 'excess/unused/scrap' asphalt shingles to the treads.
Best video in awhile
Nice!!! So Glad to hear Allysa again. This was a fun video
How about finishing the outside of the house. Get some protection from the next winter?
If that saw kicked back!!!!!!!!!

Love love LOVE the story telling format 😍
Siding on the house, finish upstairs, then gitter done
love this video. more like this please

Nice! - I would suggest adding a little bench at the end - under which the boots rest in comfort.
Don't forget about your friends from the Shelter Institute and there hands. 😁
At 5 minutes in, I was afraid there would be an extended video about a trip to the emergency room!
Yeah when he was running that circular saw with his entire arm on the cutting side all I could do was cringe
Its sad to see how little progress you've made since the last time I watch one of your videos 3 months ago
That's not a deck it's a stairwell with a landing as required under code.
From experience, things that "temporary" last a very long time.
They said that in the video.
First video I liked in a long time .lots of Labor little lap. like you used to do. good job
Have you given any thought to moving your wood pile away from the back of the house. I am worried about bugs and mice and even snakes making their homes in the wood pile. I was always told to keep my wood pile away from any buildings.
Whew good to see a video without Jessie explaining how a screw works or something silly.

I have one word for you . TYVEK. It's been a year....
That is four words plus an abbreviation of two more! :)
@@McAVITYourWay. TYVEK is the word.
Looks great Jesse, you need a boot rack now so they don’t fill up with snow & critters 🙌🏼
I like the rustic look. I would keep it, even if you end up doing a welded metal frame. Great job kids.
Well played!! More egress and an exit on the main floor. Nice job!!
It matches the siding really well. When is this guy going to put the siding on?
That's charted out for the end of 2024
Perfect temporary solution from free wood to be able to use that door, and it works as another exit in case of emergencies without having to jump now.
I can't believe you still haven't sided the house
Even just a layer of Tyvek or something would be a great way to protect the house and keep out the water, bugs, etc...
Now you need a bridge to the hot tub 😁
Great job guys...
delightfully half-assed.
Beautiful !
That rustic look is so good! Stay rustic with the rest of the house - it blends so well with the mountains!
That deck turned out way too nice to be temporary. You did a great job. I really like the light addition also
The termites love you for this
That far north, they will have no termite issues.
They look amazing! You will be running up and down them all the time. Good job Jessie and great use of the lumber. Happy for y'all
LOVE IT ! Now buy a cheap $10.00 sprayer from Harbor Freight fill it with water seal, spray, and it will last till you get a permanent one built.
You gave your wife one awesome smile. Great job.
Great job guys....you’re right, it’s the little things that make all the difference😉!!
Looks good and functional. Thats all you need.
Does anyone know why they haven't been working on the siding?.
everyone that has been watching their build knows why ,you must be new ...

Not to nit pic, but you guys need to get that OSB covered. House wrap, at a minimum. Every time it gets wet, its disintegrating.
I agree , there gonna end up doing a video and start out with, well we should have done this sooner, disintegration and mold are gonna set in.
Hey. im no carpenter at all, so please just take this as the question its meant to be.
