    I agree that you are saving a lot of money cutting your own wood, but I have a problem with your math. You also need to calculate the tree harvesting time and equipment cost into your estimations.

    add in the cost of saw mill extra blades and the excavator you have to cut alot of boards to just pay for equipment, then you can count how much you save on cutting your own boards.

    I would check the carburetor for corrosion if you have been using 10% ethanol and leaving it set unused without running the engine until the carb is out of fuel. Ethanol kills small motors by absorbing moisture. It will also degrade rubber seals and gaskets. I speak from experience lol, I had to replace carbs on mowers, pressure washer, wood chipper, generators, it was expense i could have avoided. I started using gas without any ethanol, they call it recreational gas here in SC. The operating manuals all say that you can use 10% ethanol without damage but it does not tell you if left in carb a week or two it will destroy the carb. Just my 2 cents Jessy, you probably already know this with the generators that you use.

  • @clayseale

    Hey Jesse, I say this in the nicest way...you really need to brush up on your wood science, and you need a handheld moisture content meter.
    I would guess that the dead stand wood is not as dry as you think it is. I would guess about 15 to 18%. The stuff that is on the ground may be ok.
    If the dead stand is 15 to 18%, and your EMC is 10%, you still have a fair amount of shrinkage (like 20% of the total, especially on the tangential face), and your 1.5" is now like 1 and 3/8.
    Also, get on the app store and buy "Smart Thumper." It will tell you if that questionable lumber will make grade.

    How do striations from a damaged blade make the lumber less useful for walls and floors in your house?

    • @Lermabeans
      @Lermabeans 5 років тому +4

      My thoughts exactly. Could probably use that blade a little longer since the wood is going to be hidden anyway. Its not like the wood is being used for carpentry or finishing work.

    • @RKleyn
      @RKleyn 5 років тому +1

      Most applications it probably wouldn't matter. But a damaged saw blade doesn't cut as well and could start to wander and produce warped cuts. Better to replace it and get it sharpened then use it till it breaks.
