Consistently the best HEMA content on UA-cam. Bravo!
It must have taken a really long time to edit in all the colour splashes for the hits, defends etc. but it is SO useful and makes things so much easier to understand visually, thank you so much!!
It's rare to find a video so concise and informative that I actually recommend it to students, and this is it.
Fantastically informative, done very well to break down something that seems very complicated to something relatively simple!
I wanted to let you guys know something. I love all of you who help make these movies, tutorials and whatever. Tomorrow is my first ever HEMA fencing class, which I'm feeling very excited, and however very nervous for. I'm scared of holding a knife with the intent to hit, or even trying to defending. I'm scared of defending, but I'm sure I'll get less scared over time. Also, you guys are in a way an inspiration, since I remember watching you when I first starting to really get into my obsession with medieval times. I implore you to continue making videos for people like me who look up to you, perhaps you could even make tutorials in the future, teaching moves, and teaching how to not be so scared to pick up a blade, like me! Haha, anyways, thank you Akedemia Szermierzy!
Tell us how it went?
@@fyrestars3193 Hey buddy. It's been quite a while since I've been thikning about tihs, but I've been trying to loose weight so I can try out Hema again, and it may be easier to keep up! The quarentine hasn't helped me go out more and excercise
@@jennyrapp4082 Losing weight = changing diet, not exercising. Exercise only supports weight loss, but never is the cause of it.
I'm very happy that this is made by Polish guys. Im from cz and i can speek polish because of my family and thanks to you i fall in love in historical fighting
The first girl I ever felt the hit of " love at first sight" was a polish girl when I was a 16 and she was 17. A lot of Polish women are astonishingly beautiful. Anyhow she made me want to visit there. I hope I can one day soon
Great information.
The sounds is a bit low though, and the voice-over can at times be hard to hear clearly over the music.
I jump in the HEMA world few months ago (almost year now, yeaaaaah, i'm happy !), and each time I understand something, I see what I have to understand left. And it is just enormous.
Not only I love longsword, but I am begining to look in the direction of i.33 and polish saber.
HEMA are just a beautiful art.
Fencing is a beautiful art.
It feels to me that I will not be able to turn away from it, and with only one lesson per week, I feel... empty :o
RaevenKS practice home on front of a mirrors; shadow fence
Study some Fiore di Battalgia the day before!
Excellent editing on this video! The slowmo paired color splashes are a great way to illustrate the outcome of a pass which otherwise might be difficult to identify. Great work, love all your videos!
Hi! Great vid.
That “HEMA tree” is something you could print out as a poster and “sell” to support the channel.
I mean, it’s beautiful, cheap to make as a poster; and would be a good way to support the channel.
Just a thought.
Anyways, keep up the good work!
I agree! I'd love to have one
Absolutely! I would definitely buy one too!
I'd consult it mid-battle in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Hold on, Woycek, I just need to do my reconnaissance phase. Can you hold still for a moment while I mislead you and prepare for countertime?
@@paradigmarson9586 YUSSSS id pay for that?
I’d gleefully buy copies for myself, several friends interested in this sort of thing and the local club.
1:19 Respect for him catching his opponent when he got knocked back
Thank you. Nobody else takes the holistic view like you guys do.
What a brilliant video! Loved the blue and red highlights to show who got hit... so well done! ❤
Fantastic overview explanation of fencing. The best I've watched, by far.
An an epee fencer in my club, I have to say bravo to your video. Excellent way of using the branch to break it all down.
Interesting that you mention that some considered the counterattack to be the "jewel" of fencing @ 6:24 mark. Bruce Lee thought of counter punching as a higher form of offense. Bruce Lee was influenced by boxing and fencing. The Tao of Jeet Kune Do has references to fencing works.
Very well explained. When I started learning fencing many many years ago, my first instructor used a very similar analogy and in the 26 years since I have yet to find a better way to explain it.
One of the most informative videos I've seen while also being extremely entertaining to watch. Bravo!
Very simple but also complicated enough to explain the method of the art of fencing! This is incredibly well-presented and informative.
The best channel of its kind on UA-cam.
Yes please make more of these videos. Follow all the branches of the tree you have showed. The more historical fencers learn a common vocabulary the faster the entire art can improve! HEMA needs your help. ;-)
The quality of your videos is mind blowing!
I really like the video and explanations. I wish there was a poster with the labelled tree I could put on a wall.
This video is amazing and VERY well put together. Very excited for more!
Wow, the added colors for hits/defense was very helpful. Clears up the confusion with what happened in those fast exchanges. This must have taken LOADS of time to edit.
This is the best breakdown of actions that I have seen - much more comprehensive that the Tactical Wheel

*The lads are back*
Dobra robota chłopaki, trzymajcie tak dalej 👏👏👏
That editing though! And this was very well thought out and put together. Cant imagine how long it took to piece together. Well done
Robicie strasznie dobrą robotę, techniczna strona wideo jest świetna w porównaniu z zagranicznymi kanałami, szczególnie montaż stoi na wysokim poziomie. Powodzonka
It's awesome how you are highlighting the hits and parryies etc!!!
Amazing, and well explained, cant wait for the next part
I have a solution to solve all rule breaking in Olympic fencing involving not calling hits:
Remove all armour, make the weapons sharp. After all, they can't say they didn't get hit if they have a giant puncture wound.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk
Excellent work... What an amazing overview..
Wonderful introduction to basic elements of fencing. Amazing edit and explanation. Thank you for this great video!
Excellent! I highly approve of and agree with your breakdown. I've never seen such a thorough system. Thank you, I find this highly helpful and will remember it.
Great job guys!! Please continue the series!
Czekałem, oj czekałem na kolejny film, i oto jest :D

Amazing job guys ! Love it !
Very informative and well made video, I loved the tree and the offensive, defensive and hit marks too. I look forward to more content similar to this.
The only criticism is the music is loud sometimes and I cannot hear what's being said.

This is a great video! Hope to see more informative and instruction videos very soon. Thank you!!
Thanks for your support! Sure, there will be some more detailed videos soon :)
@@akademiaszermierzy1105 Have you considered doing a structured online training program like many martial art schools are doing now? I live in San Francisco and there's nobody as skilled as you who provides training anywhere around here. Thank you!
Yes, we're planning that. Actually we're starting sabre series (that will be a full training program), we've already filmed some episodes. Parallel we'll be doing the same for the longsword, so you only need to wait.
And now, after viza waiver, who knows, maybe we'll think about some workshops in the USA? :)
@@akademiaszermierzy1105 EXCELLENT!! Keep up thre great work!
Przepiękny filmik!

Bravo Cousin!
I always love your videos. Subbed!
Great video, loving this series
cant wait for part two
Merci beaucoup !! Thank you this is a very good video !
I concur. Though the way these things are discussed in Japanese fencing is quite different, the core ideas are the same. Particularly how counter-attack actions are considered in high esteem by fencers.
One interesting point that could be consider to differ is how in classical Japanese fencing there is not that strong a distinction between the "preparation" and "action" phases. You are expected to be observant at all times, and are taught to attack with a soft body in some schools precisely so that you could change intent mid-action. This can be seen in some Aikido sword forms.
Great video. Great instruction.
Nicely made, in every aspect. Well done!
Great video! Thank you VERY much!
Please do more informative videos like this!
This was great, my only criticism is about the sound, the voice its hard to hear over the music at times. But you made everything clear and easy to understand, also the presentation was great
У вас один из самых лучших каналов по фехтованию
