      Off the top of my head, Good longsword drills:
      Cross blades at middle distance and use, edge vs flat, strong vs weak, and top vs bottom to 'win' the bind. Add footwork to taste.
      Practice counter attacks with: Stepping into the attack, Stepping away from the attack, and leg slip (like in this video)
      Practice two tempo batter and riposte counters from low guards (boar's tooth and full iron gate)
      Can also do two temp collections and ripostes (Window and Front guards)
      This is all based on Italian, not sure how well it relates to German LS.

    The first drill was basically how I was taught sabre at all. I didn't drill feints as much, I mostly practiced it in live fencing by resolving to only land hits with feints.
    For footwork, I actually didn't move back a lot. I generally like to apply pressure and move forward, and found myself too close to escape backwards, so what I would do was get even closer, inside the arc of the cut.

      @@akademiaszermierzy1105 Indeed. I'm using most of this video's drills and training techniques to teach "pirate cutlass" (read: naval British saber system) to a little girl. It was amusing how, as we sat watching your video, we did recognize most of the things we do. Exchanges, parries at increasing force to teach her not to fear, combining parries and slips... (we're currently at the "feint and counterfeint" part of training). We just agreed the next part of our training will be the "attack twice, parry twice" exercise you suggest. Thaks for THAT tip.

    • @akademiaszermierzy1105
      @akademiaszermierzy1105  3 роки тому +2

      No, the order is random. It's the most valuable, because you have to learn to choose proper parry in movement. However for beginners it can be also prearranged order :)

      For saber with basket Red Dragon is enough.
      However, if hand protection is limited (like in case of Polish saber) it's good to have something better - for example 5 fingers Sparring Gloves, Infinity Gloves, Progauntlets etc. You just have to know how much space you have between hand and hilt
