  • The subscapularis is a very powerful muscle that rotates the arm inwards and is part of the rotator cuff group of muscles. This muscle is commonly involved with most neck, shoulder, and midback conditions. Contraction and shortening of the subscapularis is commonly seen in forward head posture and rounded shoulders.

Alot of doctors are lazy and just send you off to get a ct or mri and they tell you " you have arthritis " and tell you to take anti-inflammatory medz ...this man is really great as he gets to the root cause of the problem ( what most doctors are not doing) and this man actually cares so thank you very much from the Conscious Therapist 🕉♾️💞✨️💫☯️⚛️

Stretches start 10:48. This May be the most helpful video for physical health on UA-cam. I found this video after getting a massage this evening and feeling the most pain in my pec area. This video explains why I’ve felt the way I have. Just did the stretches and they’re amazing, already feeling better

Thank you so much for sharing this information. Have fibromayalgia an I pulled my subcapularis. In 17 years of therapy, you are the first person to recognize what is going on! I had figured out a lot of what you talked about on my own. You just confirmed another layer of focus for my healing. Praise God! Bless you, Dr. Mandel!

Dr. Mandell, I'm a subscriber and have studied many of your videos to successfully overcome various aches and pains. Thanks to you I haven't had a migraine since December, not even a headache and this has been an issue for me since childhood... several migraines per month. Not anymore. My neck is much stronger now. It's that rhomboid, forward head posture thing. Now I keep an 18" stretch band in front of my laptop and regularly pick it up to do the outward stretches along with all the correct positioning. I'm now overcoming a shoulder problem and find today's video pointing out those scaps... the places I'm bound up. Door stretching hurts but I'm able to do alot more than I could a few months ago. Thanks for the wonderful helps. ~ Ooh, and fun hearing how many countries are logging in to hear you. Nice of you to acknowledge them and bring us all together. Greetings to the world from a peaceful place in the U.S. ~ namaste :)

Doc, I recently woke up with a sore neck and 3 weeks later my head's forward, can't turn at all, bobble head because holding chin and head up is impossible. I started with chiropractor and massage therapist. Both are perplexed at how terrible my neck &shoulders muscles are tight, knotted and spasming continuously. They can't believe it's only been a month since this started. I've had a double mastectomy and lattimus dorsi breast reconstruction surgery (5 yrs) followed by 12 weeks of radiation, and both professionals are perplexed by how that may be contributimg to the rapid issues I'm suffering.

hi, doc! you are doing a great job with these explanations. i have been actively strainghtening my muscles one by one for an year now because of a high level of pain from shoulder pain, kneck pain and a biiiiig deviation in my posture from sitting on the chair. I couldn't lift my arm over 90 degrees at some point for a long time. I did a lot of your romboid exercises, helped a lot with strenthening. Posture exercises, helped a lot with pain. And now I found this video about the subscapularis. It explains most of the things that i've been feeling good with without knowing the sourse. hopefully this will mark the spot. I'll try to check back in with a comment to say if it worked and in what way. You are a huge help and making a big positive impact on our lives.

Just to say this ... You are a blessing...I experienced 1 1/2 years ago allot of physical skeleton ailments due to sitting at a laptop to complete 2 years of college in 8 months which intels bout 7 straight hours of sitting 6 days a week. The saying Lil ole lady from Pasadena... She walks hitched over with a cane but many don't know the pain she endures... That has been me. You have helped me to understand the problems from incorrect posture and resolved most of my problems. I'm not 100% yet but in the road to recovery. Working on upper body posture and studying the lower hip area. A long process from injuries due to computer to knee injury to sciatic to pinch nerve. Has not been easy for this 65 yr woman. You are my angel and you have given me hope and courage for my recovery program. Bless you 💜

Stumbled upon this video when searching for posture improvement advice, made myself sit and watch through all the chat distraction, it paid off. Stretched subscapularis by putting my elbow on a horizontal bar, bringing my hand behind another bar above it, using it as a stopper, and started tipping my body forward thus stretching the muscle by rotating body while the arm is immobile. Today is the first time in a long time I woke up without pain in shoulder and neck. A sensation hard to believe in. Thank you doc, i'll be sure to start watching all your videos now.

When I did the arm behind the back and tried moving my hand away from my back it reproduced the shoulder area pain I've been having for quite some time. I thought it was associated more with my cervical problems and some of my pain has gotten better following my ACDF surgery for spinal cord compression, BUT now I know for sure that sitting on the computer/phone is what is causing it due to poor positioning and posture AND weak vs. tight muscles. I was about to go back to my doctor to see how to proceed, but now I feel confident waiting until my recheck with my orthopedic surgeon in March. I know my PCP will just send me to PT anyway and I needed more direct exercises to address this specific problem. Thank you so much for making these videos and allowing them to be viewed freely! Obviously, if I have any concerning symptoms I will alert my doctor.

One of the top 5, IF NOT TOP/BEST videos on UA-cam! Seriously, this video, combined with your Magnesium video would save the US BILLIONS of dollars in health care costs and ADD TRILLIONS to our nation's productivity. This video, and you Dr., could theoretically "save" humanity, deer don't have cancer, deer don't have doctors, bc deer, and ALL other animals use their bodies and eat the way nature intended. The problem... this video, could literally put millions of doctors, Rx drug companies, and many others without a job. Do doctors really not know that sitting at a computer is killing us, or do their medical schools think they'll be out of work if they spend more than an afternoon discussing preventative Medicine? Ie magnesium supplementation, stretching chest, strengthening rotator cuff, rhomboids, and anterior flexors, ALL OF WHICH CAN BE DONE FROM HOME WITH A $20 resistance band, a towel, and a doorway?

No doubt in my mind my ongoing pain is caused by posture, tight pecs and subscap. I kept working my external rotators (Infra and supraspinatus). But I'm 90% convinced its the subscap (internal rotator). Looking forward to working on this. Thanks for the vid!!

I am an LMT and I often share your videos with my clients as homework. If I show them the stretches myself when they come in for massage treatment I know that they're never going to remember them or do them so if I text them these videos and tell them these are the stretches that they need to be doing they are more likely to do them and to remember them. The compliant ones I see such a difference when they come in for their follow-up massages. I watch all your videos about vitamins nutrients foods as well and have use them to help change my eating habits and my life and have lost 30 lb in about six weeks by changing the foods that I eat and the supplements that I use. Thank you for all the informative advice that has helped me and thank you for making my job much easier by helping my clients and making me look like a miracle worker LOL. I've spent 15 years sitting at the computer squeezing my shoulder blades all the time (as generally advertised to maintain good posture) but what that actually did is that it caused my subscapularis muscle to stay locked and contracted all the time. Also I had strong rhomboid muscles and lose chest muscles which suppose to give you the perfect posture(atleast i thought so), yet I had shoulder imbalance and pain in the chest/arm. So what did the miracle to me is stretching that subscapularis muscle. I am not a doctor, but through years of suffering and trial and error I have finally found the key to good health: Having strong muscles is pointless if they are not elongated/stretched/loose. So make sure to stretch every muscle you can think off and then strengthen it and you will be living pain free life. That's my share of insight , hope you all have a nice day :)

W-O-W...Dr. Mandell...'you said a mouthful' and every syllable of it relates to all of my symptoms. There are obviously 'millions' of others all with the SAME issues. A direct effect of the computer age, no doubt. I thank you profusely for bringing these clips to us all...I personally notice benefits, immediately. I had reached a point where I could barely walk...thank you from my Heart...'bless yer cotton sox'

I fail at the 'Lift Off' test. This condition has developed suddenly one day about three months ago. There are hundreds of videos about the condition and I have seen them all. This video that I found this evening seems to be the best yet. Thanks Dr. Mandell.

Thank you Dr. Mandell, excellent, I am a practicing L.C.M.T. and often times I become very frustrated when trying to help my clients and they feel release for about a day or so and it returns. This will help some of my clients that suffer with frozen shoulder. P.T. compliments massage always. Thanks much!
