So interesting to see the differences with Luke’s performance - an understudy just as good as the original! If anyone is interested I did a ukulele cover of don’t even know it on my channel :)
In fact understudies are often better (esp when the lead is a celeb who sells tickets just based on reputation). They rarely get stage time so they put in 110% and since they don't perform as regularly the energy is much higher.
Saw it 30.01.19 West End. After its cast change. Saw it for the first time. Layton Williams as Jamie New was Brilliant. This will run and run. Its right up there with Wicked and Book of Mormon...everyone is talking about Jamie..so go see what there talking about..a 10/10 knockout😄
Especially since they do it in a way that seems natural and normal, rather than making it an obvious statement like Hamilton. (Not hating on hamilton btw)
As someone who lives in Sheffield (which is where this show is set in) this is exactly like what a Sheffield school looks like. There is a huge Asian and Muslim population in Sheffield (I'm Asian myself :))
I was there! And screamed and sang with my mother throughout whole performance. Also saw the show with her for the second time. Luke was on as Jamie. I am glad that I have seen both guys. ;)
I missed this performance as I was still in the queue, but went straight to the TKTS booth to buy a ticket for the matinee so I could see it for the second time. Still fabulous, and Luke was amazing as Jamie.
Well done Luke, you were amazing at school. Always very talented and you deserve this big break - WOW. Heard everyone coming to see you in the big City - all very excited and looking forward to watching you grow from strength to strength. All the very very best.
Aidan Lam I practically dragged my friend to see it after the Oliviers (I had seen the show before and LOVED it) and at the interval she was saying how much she loved it. By the end of the show she wanted to go back! It’s so uplifting 😊❤️
Been to the show 5 times and saw both John and Luke. My friends and I preferred John McCrea's interpretation of the character and thought he was better at acting and dancing (they both sing okay) but Luke's performance was not bad at all. If you haven't watched the show you must come to the theatre (UA-cam clips don't do the show justice)
Personally I just prefer John McCrea. I haven’t seen Luke perform anything but this song tho and I didn’t like his performance at alllll for the children’s charity event however this performance is much better than that one. I like this performance tho
Does anyone have any videos where they performed another song? I love this one but I want to see more of this show and they seem to always perform the same song
They both have slightly different touches and do an awesome job - both are hugely talented guys (supported by a brilliant cast ) - maybe like Doctor Who or Bond you like your first :) - John McCrea is amazing - Luke is also amazing
i don’t like Luke.. like at all. he isn’t a believable jamie. at all. sorry.. 🌸 john can do this song 20x better while jumping off and on of tables and doing mad dance moves. he’s struggling.. while standing still. i absolutely adore that show, and it’s story is basically what i went through in high school. but this jamie.. isn’t for me.
*NO OFFENCE INTENDED* I absolutely love Johns Version of Jamie and being a actor myself I know you put your own stamp on something but this is awful man the singing is bad and the dancing is just dreadful Johns version is a lot my Camp and I think this version is to pushed to together for it to be good (My opionion)
I love how northern this Jamie is. Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire!
sheflied sheffield sheffield
@@t3ddibear Sheffield is in Yorkshire...
ok but im living for this miss hedge
ah she’s a cover - Kirstie Skivington! She played one of the students last year and is now resident choreographer xx

Sambie understudies are usually as good as the principle. Eg Alice fearn as Elphaba she was understudy last year she’s now principle

gerrard kane it’s great cos i was really rooting for Layton and (no surprise) he seems to be killing it.
Love love love how they purposely made the cast so diverse!
Especially since they do it in a way that seems natural and normal, rather than making it an obvious statement like Hamilton. (Not hating on hamilton btw)
Honestly I think if you can notice diversity then it's probably more poc than normal.
Then you've probably never been to certain parts of London and other major British cities, where this level of diversity is completely normal.
It's amazing because this looks like schools in the uk? Like it actually is just what the uk is in most areas

Don't forget it's showing Nationwide in cinemas on July 5th - Well worth going to see if you can't get into London or afford the west end prices
where can you buy tickets for it??
Thanks for this comment! I had no idea and live too far to go see it in person, thank you so much!
I went to see it! It was amazing!!

I LOVE HIS ACCENT. 😂❤️

It’s worth seeing the musical. It shows so much
This was the clip that made me fall in love with the musical and now im seeing it on Saturday!!!
I freaking love Luke Bayer!
I love you too! 💙
I think this is my favourite performance yet
Great way to start West end live i love this show.
This is actually amazing!! So much better than their Olivier's performance (which I really didn't like that much), I'm glad they've changed my mind!!
Aidan Lam I practically dragged my friend to see it after the Oliviers (I had seen the show before and LOVED it) and at the interval she was saying how much she loved it. By the end of the show she wanted to go back! It’s so uplifting 😊❤️
I'm totally auditioning if this ever comes to New York
I saw the show last year and it’s sooo good! I still listen to the cast recording almost daily 😍😍
I'm from the US but I need to get to London to see this Luke is great x
Saw this live a few months ago and it's amazing! I seriously recommend you go if you're at all interested!
Oh I love it so much😭 best thing I’ve ever seen in the Westend, can’t wait to see it for the third time😂🎭❤️❤️
Its so good! Seeing it for fourth time soon x
I prefer this Jamie to the one that performed at the Olivier awards. I love this guy :)
Yesss, I've been waiting for this! This is amazing!
My friend’s going to see this and I’m praying I can go too cause this looks so good
It was so packed that I couldn't get in to see it, but I did listen from the outside!
Love it!! 😍🙌🏻

Sheff lads 💓
Luke Bayer 😍💙
i had kinda hoped Lucie would've got to sing one of her solos, but Luke was awesome
The sound from the show to video always seems to be a little off mix wise. There's also some moments when he forgets to point the mic to his mouth.
Ive never seen this show. What is it about? Its got awesome music!
A 16 year old boy wants to a drag queen!
Ohhhh okay! Thank you :)
Watch 'Jamie: Drag Queen at 16' - this is the documentary that inspired the musical.
Luke my pure child
I don’t think Luke Bayer is gay but he’s good at singing and acting xx 😘
Wanna see him . . .
Personally I just prefer John McCrea. I haven’t seen Luke perform anything but this song tho and I didn’t like his performance at alllll for the children’s charity event however this performance is much better than that one. I like this performance tho
What happened to the guy that normally plays Jamie?
Mark Hill nothing Luke is the Jamie under study
Alanis Spencer-hurry Ohhh okay. Thanks!
John is on vacation for the next two weeks! I asked the Apollo Theatre yesterday.
ok late to the party but is that CJ (Teal Alt in West End's SiX) in the ensemble?
Yep! And also Courtney Bowman's there too
Does anyone have any videos where they performed another song? I love this one but I want to see more of this show and they seem to always perform the same song
If u can go see this show now Layton(new Jamie) is amazing
What's the second song? Can't find it anywhere else on the internet!
TheWrongNotes it’s called ‘out of the drarknes ( a place where we belong)’ the cast recording is on iTunes and Spotify
Who played Miss Hedge here? Have seen her live but can't find her name anywhere.
Kirstie Skivington xx
@@amyw7976 I found out via Luke's Twitter but thanks hun!
never knew Anna Kendrick was in the ensemble
Natalia 2233 i know she actually isn’t but what i can’t see anyone that looks like her
@@beccasouthwick think Harriet Payne (Bex) kinda looks like Anna Kendrick
Luke is great and for me a bit too macho for Jamie, but what do I know
I think Luke Bayer is better than the actual Jamie - saw him cover in March and was fab!
They both have slightly different touches and do an awesome job - both are hugely talented guys (supported by a brilliant cast ) - maybe like Doctor Who or Bond you like your first :) - John McCrea is amazing - Luke is also amazing
Michael Bolton 100% agree! They are both amazing!
if this one is better than the other guy ... HOW BAD MUST THE OTHER ONE BE
jayjay 154 he fr isn’t aha- john mccrea was legend
he really targeted a lot of notes ... but hit only a few
Why no Tamsin Carroll? Just because she is Aussie doesn't mean you get to kick us out of everything. This is xenophobia
