That cardinal flower! It’s native to North America and I remember seeing my first hummingbird drinking its nectar (while I was sitting on the roof of the house I helped my fam build in 1974)

Oh, those tropicals! Beautiful color! You inspire me to try more of them! Are you overwintering them inside? Beautiful as always. Thank you! The hedge in the shed bed is coming along nicely!
I am excited about these tropicals - they’re such fun with the fast growth. The brugmansia in the bed I’ll leave there and see if it survives. The two in pots will simply sit in the garage from December. Most of all the others will over-winter in the ground - except the tender red banana which is too much of a faff to take in so I’ll buy another next Spring for £5 - treating it like a bedding plant!!
Garden's looking fab. Paul. Love the start of the video with the pond in view and I'm going to have to keep an eye out for a Pinky Winky Hydrangea just for the name! The weather doesn't seem to have affected your plants and if anything, they're looking better than ever. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for mentioning the beginning Wendy - my very first aerial view! Definitely get a Pinky Winky (what a name - what a plant!) I have been doing a lot of watering - still got some water in the water butts from that last rain - just about. Just got to get past 3 more heat-wave days. ☀️
Your garden is looking really beautiful, no signs of heat damage. I had an Angel's trumpet on the edge of my pond, it hung over the waterfall, I built it to have a 2 - 3 ft stream as well.. One morning little birds were bathing in the stream and flying up into it to wait for another turn. Mine was white with peachy pink around the trumpet.
Hi Paul. Great vid! I had a James Grieve in my last garden and a lovely Bramley. I miss them! Have put a note in my gardening diary to get some dahlia tubers in March next year.
Thank you so much I have been unclear about dahlia deadheading and the triangle, round rule has helped tremendously Dahlia from seed this year has been great fun and they do develop tubers so yeah
Such a lovely video. I will be adopting your Chelsea chop method next year for sure 😊 I have fallen in love with your Rowan tree. If only I had room for one. Thanks so much Paul for another wonderful video ❤️
@@paultsworld , oh yes 😁 I definitely noticed that. We’ve had a lot of trouble here with Japanese beetles. They skeletonize plant leaves very like the leafs you showed. My garden certainly took a hit but I tell myself next year is another year. Yours looks absolutely beautiful! 😊❤️
Luckily we don’t have Japanese beetles here - yet! That’s a great attitude - there’s always next year- and indeed every year is different- makes gardening so exciting. 🌸
How nice it is to see you and your lovely garden back on YT this season. I enjoy your videos immensely. The tree lilies are breathtaking as are those pink and blue lace cap hydrangeas! Your entire garden is so beautiful. I’m not an expert but over here in the USA, I have heard other gardeners indicate yarrow (and sedum) should not be fertilized. 😬
Thank you Kim 🌸. I leave all the dahlias in the ground. My soil is very well draining so the tubers don’t get wet & cold. Some of the dahlias - the yellow ones and the white ones - have been in the ground for over 10 years.
Hi Paul. I was thinking you have wonderful colour in your garden. Do you leave your dahlia s in the ground overwinter. We are having a second heatwave this week. So lots of work to keep up with the watering. I have water butt's. Enjoy the lovely weather Paul 🇮🇪
Hi Catherine, Yes, all the dahlias stay in the ground - as long as the soil is free draining it will be OK. Clay would probably rot them. Second heatwave firmly established here as well. Luckily, like you, I have 6 water butts to help. Must say I’m enjoying an evening ice-cream on the patio right now - lovely evening temperatures. 🌸
I'm amazed to see your Lychnis still blooming! Even though I deadheaded frequently mine were over by the middle of July. Maybe it's the region I live in, Hertfordshire, whereas you're in the north west of England I believe. However, mine have self-seeded as usual and there are plenty of baby plants growing for next year. Lovely garden as usual Paul.
My lychnis are on their last legs now Sue - I wonder if yours started flowering that bit earlier than mine as it may be slower to get the warmer temperatures up here in the NW. It’s brilliant how they self seed - all ready for next year. The ultimate perpetual motion!
@@paultsworld Yes, it’s lovely to see all your beautiful flowers 💐 🌸💐🌺🌻 I don’t blame you for taking a break, the weather has been brutal in the US the past few weeks.
@@paultsworld Thankfully, it’s not as hot now, and having AC helps. My family are all in the UK and I heard about the heatwave you have had. Stay cool 😎 lol :) sue
Hello Paul! You are passionate and descriptive about gardening !! Together with time perspective, you had taught many about joy of gardening and thru passage of time, your personal relationship with each plant. Bravo! You may be intrigued by Annie Annual nursery , Richmond , California. Mostly in a 4' planters, they has a huge selection of plants from S. America, Mediterranean regions and subtropical of Brazil , Costa Rica etc. The website, each plant, is descriptive and beautifully pictured . It is a plants paradise!
Hello Paul! a bit more note .... the Annie Annual , I was told, the best nursery in the States for a vast selection of plants . You can click on any alphabet of its website for plants. A random examples here: Thalictrum rochebrunianum( origin Japan should grow well in your region) another Callirhoe involucrata and last Polygonum orientale " Kiss -Me-Over-The- Garden-Gate"( fun name and beautiful plant!!).
@@paultsworld I go there to shop for exotic or interesting plants, its also a fun place to educate myself. Plants' availability fluctuate, depending on demand , supply or season.
Good Morning Paul, amazing. You must have been working on summer interest because the garden is just as magnificent as it is in Spring. Well done. I have to work on that as my garden has finished flowering by mid summer and looks the same mid green. I have just put in echinacea in the last two seasons so should get a really good display. I also want to get my hands on Rudbeckia and canna this year. You have done so much work in the garden and so many new beds that have filled in SO quickly. It must be so surprising to see it almost instantly come together like this. I love that persicaria. NO fertilizer for yarrow, it will take over the world without food!! haha! I really enjoyed your garden tour today as we have a minus 3 morning and am DYING for Spring. PS went to Egeskov and have to say you have done magnificently with summer interest compared to there. We were there in June last time.
Howdy Margaret, how’s life down under? You’re right -mid Summer is tricky. I am also quite taken with echinacea- so are the bees - so a nice swath of them would be great. My cannas are really keeping me entertained this year - I’ve got 6 varieties for goodness sake! Thanks for info on yarrow - I’m useless with this plant 😅 I even have some in the lawn from a previous effort. Bet you’re happy about Spring round the corner. Hope you had a nice time in Denmark.
Denmark was great. We went to the new HC Andersen area in Odense and they have made some really nice urban gardens in the centre there. It was very social with family and friends. Back home, we have had 80mm rain last week and more coming. I hope since I last talked to you in July that you have had rain. Got back and went into a gardening frenzy, pruning roses and moving plants around and doing more winter clean up. Also dug up dahlia tubers but have no idea what I'm doing regarding division. I need to move them to another location. Enjoying the hellebores and daffodils currently. I will watch with great interest your progress reports on the canna and bananas, as well as your new hydrangeas in the front garden. Forgot to mention, is your drone a new toy?
Even though in middle of heat-wave No2 luckily had some good rain a week ago - so not too bad - except mophead & lacecaps complaining. I was going to get a long ladder but decided on a drone - more fun! 😀 Glad you had a great time in Denmark.
Paul, I just had to watch the first few seconds of your video again. I thought: is he up a ladder or is it indeed drone footage!! Thought you were pulling my leg for a minute! Glad the hydrangeas let you know they were thirsty. Second nursery trip today. Got a pink canna! also bought frost fodder annuals.
Love your garden! I was wondering how old you Oakleaf Hydrangea is, I have one that was planted last fall and has not flowered yet. What is your secret for Oakleaf Hydrangeas?
I have three oakleaf hydrangeas. I bought them as young plants - I think early last year - so this is their 2nd Summer in my garden. I actually treated them all differently. The one in this video was not cut back and it has flowered. The other one I left (in the front garden) has also flowered. However the one I cut back last Autumn has not flowered this year but it’s a much bushier plant. I have no secret but I do like to give them a feed in Spring and plenty of water through the year. I’m still learning about them. If you have a young one I would be confident it is putting down nice roots - hopefully getting bushier and ready to flower for you next year. Hope so - keep me me posted Margarita.
Such a wonderful garden! It is incredible how beautifully you arranged them all and cared for them. Do you also have a vegetable garden? Kind regards from Romania!

Take care and keep safe Paul 🌹🌺🌸😊
You too - thank you Nik,
Дякую за чудове відео! Окрема подяка за українські субтитри
You are most welcome. Glad you liked my video 🌻
What a delightful scene Wende. I love that when everything comes together and the wildlife make themselves at home. 🌸
Вы молодец и умничка! Труженик!
Thank you Ольга - I do my best!
Hello Paul! It's Olga from Kyiv.Again enjoyed your video tour around the garden! Good idea about 'Chelsea Chop' for the Phlox.
Hi Olga, lovely to hear from you. Yes, Chelsea Chop - I’ll be doing it to various tall plants next year.
Thank you for this inspirational video~
Thank you - your comment is appreciated.
Hi Paul. Great vid! I had a James Grieve in my last garden and a lovely Bramley. I miss them! Have put a note in my gardening diary to get some dahlia tubers in March next year.
Hi Leilar and Shiela, those James Grieve do taste nice! Gardening diaries are so useful 🌻
Thank you so much I have been unclear about dahlia deadheading and the triangle, round rule has helped tremendously
Dahlia from seed this year has been great fun and they do develop tubers so yeah
That’s brilliant- I’ve never grown dahlias from seed - the ultimate & most rewarding way of growing plants.
Beautiful garden
Thank you.
Such a lovely video. I will be adopting your Chelsea chop method next year for sure 😊 I have fallen in love with your Rowan tree. If only I had room for one. Thanks so much Paul for another wonderful video ❤️
Hello Vicki, rowan trees are quite small, perhaps squeeze one in?
Hope you liked the ‘from above’ view of the pond 😀
@@paultsworld , oh yes 😁 I definitely noticed that. We’ve had a lot of trouble here with Japanese beetles. They skeletonize plant leaves very like the leafs you showed. My garden certainly took a hit but I tell myself next year is another year. Yours looks absolutely beautiful! 😊❤️
Luckily we don’t have Japanese beetles here - yet!
That’s a great attitude - there’s always next year- and indeed every year is different- makes gardening so exciting. 🌸
I must admit the light from the morning is really good. It felt like I was very close to the flowers, but maybe it is just me.
I’m glad you feel that way - I try to film close up to get the ‘feel’ of the plants.
@@paultsworld 🤗👍WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU DO TO MAKE OUR ENJOYMENT BETTER 🤗
How nice it is to see you and your lovely garden back on YT this season. I enjoy your videos immensely. The tree lilies are breathtaking as are those pink and blue lace cap hydrangeas! Your entire garden is so beautiful.
I’m not an expert but over here in the USA, I have heard other gardeners indicate yarrow (and sedum) should not be fertilized. 😬
Thank you for welcoming me back 🌻
I think you are right - not to fertilise yarrow & sedum - I’ll remember that for next year! All the best.
wow... amazing garden
Thank you so much.
you're pretty much welcome
Absolutely lovely Paul😍 you certainly know how to put colour and texture together to make a beautiful world. Do you over winter your dahlias?
Thank you Kim 🌸.
I leave all the dahlias in the ground. My soil is very well draining so the tubers don’t get wet & cold. Some of the dahlias - the yellow ones and the white ones - have been in the ground for over 10 years.
Hi Paul. I was thinking you have wonderful colour in your garden. Do you leave your dahlia s in the ground overwinter. We are having a second heatwave this week. So lots of work to keep up with the watering. I have water butt's. Enjoy the lovely weather Paul 🇮🇪
Hi Catherine,
Yes, all the dahlias stay in the ground - as long as the soil is free draining it will be OK. Clay would probably rot them.
Second heatwave firmly established here as well. Luckily, like you, I have 6 water butts to help. Must say I’m enjoying an evening ice-cream on the patio right now - lovely evening temperatures. 🌸
I love your garden
How nice, thank you.
Beautiful. I love your garden style. My garden is similar.
Thank you - I appreciate that.
England seems to have best weather for flowers beautiful I am in zone 6a
It certainly is handy to have a temperate climate - mild Winters and (usually) warm - not hot Summers. I grow better in those conditions as well!
Nice garden!
Thank you!
Paul, your garden is simply stunning!
It must be a full time job caring for it :) Sue
Glad you enjoy my garden Sue. I have put in a few hours work 😅. Bit hot at the moment so taking time out!
@@paultsworld Yes, it’s lovely to see all your beautiful flowers 💐 🌸💐🌺🌻
I don’t blame you for taking a break, the weather has been brutal in the US the past few weeks.
Sorry to hear it’s so hot - even Britain on its second major heat wave of the Summer.
@@paultsworld Thankfully, it’s not as hot now, and having AC helps. My family are all in the UK and I heard about the heatwave you have had. Stay cool 😎 lol :) sue
Doing my best Sue - to stay cool!
Hi Kim, thank you for mentioning Annie, she sounds very interesting. I’ll check out her nursery - I love seeing new plants and learning more.🌻
Hello Paul!
a bit more note .... the Annie Annual , I was told, the best nursery in the States for a vast selection of plants .
I’ve just looked at the site - so useful for finding plants with all the drop down menus to aid selection.
I love fun names as well 🌻

I go there to shop for exotic or interesting plants, its also a fun place to educate myself. Plants' availability fluctuate, depending on demand , supply or season.
An excellent resource.
Glad you had a great time in Denmark.
Pink canna sounds great.
Love that - ‘frost fodder annuals’ 😀
I like your place and beautiful
That’s very nice of you.
Paul thank you for sharing your beautiful garden. You are a true artist and poet with plants.
That’s very nice of you Jacqueline. 🌸
Fantastic video
Thanks! 😃
I was looking forward to orange lupins, daisies and poppies.in your garden ths time.
All the poppies are over now, I sometimes grow lupins but don’t have any at the moment. Hope you enjoyed the plants That were in flower in August.
Hola señor Paul, sele estrañaba con sus vídeos de su Jardín 🪴, espero q este bien 🌳🌸🌺🙌🙏💚
Hola Tomasa - gracias por las palabras- muy amable 🌻
I love flower
Thank you. 👍
That was such a great, than you!
So nice of you - thank you.
Such a wonderful garden! It is incredible how beautifully you arranged them all and cared for them. Do you also have a vegetable garden? Kind regards from Romania!
Thank you Adina. Yes, I grow vegetables- this year: French beans, sweetcorn, cabbage, lettuce, potatoes and leeks.
Best wishes to Romania.
