    Designing a small project can take an hour or two. A medium one can occupy you for days. So taking only 10 minutes into account for the decision which tool to use can later bite you in the back:)
    But i understand it. All the different features of the design packages aren't easy to comprehend. And one has to start somewhere.
    So, thanks for the video, showing off whats important for you in PCB-Design Software:)

    I started on Fritzing and I think that was my mistake, I got used to it and then couldn't get out of my comfort zone. But I was limited by its library of components and lack of complexity as I grew. But I was lost with a lot of others and had limited success with easyEda. Thanks for showing me this I seem to be having good luck with DesignSpark and even imported a design to JLCPCB without any issue. Thanks again...

    Are you reading my script!? I've used many PCB design over the years, now I can't be bothered with them. You sum up my attitude today, try for 10 mins, see how far I get, see if it crashes or does stupid stuff then reject. That EasyEDA mangled schematic piks when rotated. Reject. The more I need to read the manual the less I'll stay. I have to be able to see on screen what I need to do and make it happen quick. I did try Design Spark maybe 8 years ago, was a pain. Some design softaware tend to lock the design into one PCB supplier, or there's usually some trick that only reveals itself after doing a design. I just want a gerber to send off :)

    I prefer DipTrace - it is free for up to 300 pins/2 layers, very intuitive, automatically makes PCB from schematics by few simple steps. It has a 3D viewer as well and a significant library that could be supplemented.

    +1 for DesignSpark PCB. I've tried everything. I like Kicad too but always return to DS PCB. It's a very shallow learning curve to have a homemade pcb in your hands quickly. Once you have the basics learning the more advanced stuff comes quite quickly and naturally. Importing component models or creating your own is a breeze. The killer feature of DS for me is being able to set your own system or relative origins to place items exactly relative to each other or relative to a manually inserted origin. Kicad is wretched in this regard. DS Mechanical is prob the best free 3d modeller in its own right and complements DS PCB beautifully. I think that DS PCB also has the best BOM creator as you can add value fields for other suppliers/order nos so you aren't strictly tied to ordering solely from RS. I dunno why so many diyers plod along with Eagle, which is a nightmare in comparison.

      Hi! Yes, for designing PCBs, this software is really brilliant! You can use it for schematics too, but for schematics, it's not quite there. Incidentally, the best 3D modelling software I've ever used is also written by/for RS, this same company!

    • @rog13
      @rog13 6 років тому

      I've been using the partner site of EasyEDA, jlcpcb.com, which are surprisingly quick to deliver to the UK and cheap. Do you know if there are alternatives that don't cost the earth?

    • @AntonyCartwright
      @AntonyCartwright  6 років тому

      Dave Barnes hi, there are alternatives, I get a number of companies email me on a regular basis, but the one I'm most attracted to is jlcpcb. I've used them for my latest project.

  • @JimTaylor42

    I see, at the end you are inviting comments.
    1. Why are there traces on the component side and none on the solder side?
    2. In the new design box, were you able to enter a New Design Name into the long box because when I tried to I could not! I could not see the reason for the New Design Name section of this dialog box.

  • @korishan

    I prefer EasyEDA as it's easy to work with. It does have a decent learning curve for someone who has not done any pcb design at all before. Took me about a week to get pretty decent at it.
    The other thing about EasyEDA is you can order your pcb directly from them, and it goes through JLCPCB. I had my boards in 2 weeks.
    The other nice thing about EasyEDA is it's all online. So you can work on the project from anywhere, or have others collaborate on a project. After awhile, the menu system becomes very intuitive to use.

    • @AntonyCartwright
      @AntonyCartwright  6 років тому +2

      Korishan Ahh cool! I suppose people have preferences. At the point when I created this, I had no experience whatsoever, but gave each software 10 minutes of my time. With EasyEDA, I found myself stumbling around it and got nowhere within 10 minutes. I could see its features, but I thought it had an unrefined and constricted feel to it. Ahh I know that pcb company too. They email me all the time lol. I suppose we look for different things in software and people learn differently. For me, DesignSpark was amazing, it works exactly how my brain envisions pcb software to work. I could use it out of the box with no experience and this demonstration is literally me after 10 minutes of practice!!!

    • @korishan
      @korishan 6 років тому +1

      Another kewl feature of EasyEDA is they have a quick question/answer response on the forums, from the EasyEDA team. I had questions when I was first starting out, posted the question, and I had an answer from a rep within an hour and helped over the following few days till I got it worked out. So, that portion I really liked since I didn't have to pay for anything :)

    • @AntonyCartwright
      @AntonyCartwright  6 років тому +1

      Korishan Yeah... I've not used design spark support, so I wouldn't know. But aslong as you are using the best for you, that's all that matters! :)

    I have been trying with 4 different video to get thru easyeda and have made little progress. Where are the components? I can't find my ATtiny85. It's basic, no? I think they have centered this package around selling their parts. thumbs down. I've used fritzing for several years, like it, but think I'm gonna give this DesignSpark a go. My first circuit for PCB is very easy.

  • @MrSwanley
    @MrSwanley 3 роки тому +3

    Well, that was a couple of hours of my life I wish I could get back! On your say-so I downloaded the latest Designspark PCB 9.0, and my experience was totally the opposite. Ok I thought, let's build a schematic for an STM32F103 project.. uh... where are the microcontrollers? Cue an hour spent finding out about features that don't exist any more, and the most cumbersome system in the known universe for adding components. Absolutely, if your circuit will only have resistors in it then do give DesignSpark PCB a try. The experience made me try EasyEDA despite sharing your distaste for cloud solutions, and EasyEDA in fact lived up to its name. I just don't see how anyone could possible think that DesignSpark was better.

      Ray "I give it 3rd place"... It's present indicative tense. "I think it's good" - present tense also. I could have also said "I'm giving it" - present continuous tense. "For your good work, I award you with this medal"... It's fine to say that. :D
