the thing about monsoon talking about memes is that we all quite literally prove his point. he refers to the original definition of memes, which was "the parts of culture that spread from person to person." the best example given by the game is "you buy a shirt you like, you wear it, and other people see it and buy that shirt too." the usage of memes now, and how they spread so quickly, is proves monsoon right "I saw someone make a will smith meme, I'll make my own verson, and now other people will make more will smith memes."
this was taken from MGS2 when Raiden and Solid Snake talk at the end.
It's straight up where a ton of people bought the game because of the memes related to it. Monsoon is absolutely on point.

The funniest part is that almost nothing in the videos is an exagaration.
The game is legitimately as crazy as he makes it out to be and yes, the music in this game IS in fact a gift from God
A lot of hardcore metal gear fans didn’t like this game at first because its so different and raiden wasn’t a very popular character, but since then people started looking past that and realized just how nutty and amazing it is. Its surprisingly detailed too, you can literally cut someone’s toes off and watch them hop around on one foot grunting in pain lol
the timing of this is great, i'm playing through all of the metal gear games again and watching this lol

I played this game way back when.... And it's crazy that this game was talking about memes, way before it was a thing. And back then I never even paid attention to the word meme...but now look, that word is everywhere

In the metal gear series, when they talk about "memes" they mean Memetic science, not funny images.

Fun fact; you can use the j and l keys to skip forwards and backwards by ten seconds, the k key to pause and the period and comma keys to go frame by frame.
Queen, this game is the most anime game that was never an anime. It plays really well and the characters are amazing. It's even got JoJo references. It's fairly short too and lots of people have been rediscovering it lately, it's worth a stream.

Oh boy you discovered Maxor. You're in for a trip. You have discovered two thirds of the trinity. Sseth and Maxor all that is left is Dovahatty. For reference Maxor is Sseth's cousin that is on half a ton of cocaine. Dovahatty is the historian. Also yes this game is one of the best hack and slash games ever made.
So, just so we're clear: unlike this video, the game uses the word "meme" in the original sense, not the internet funnies sense. I don't remember what it's definition was, something like "the collective/common characteristics that define a society"

So this game was made and came out before the use of the word "meme" had become the word used for funny internet jokes. Meme is actually shorthand for Memetics (values and cultures passed between people over time and what people can base higher opinions on). That is what "Meme" is meant to be in MG:R.
However modern "Memes" still fit the criteria of the root word as either intentionally or unintentionally, ideals can be spread through some of the "funny lol internet pics" that we see over and over again.

(besides I put when the game was *made*, because the development cycle of a game is usually 4-5ish years, meaning this game probably started being written and produced in ~2008)

General “inaccuracies”. Possible spoilers for the game.
Jetstream Sam (red katana dude) is actually a damn nice guy in the game despite trying to kill Raiden, not the raging a-hole Maxor turned him into, lol.
The orphan in the sewers talks with a… *weird* accent that is Jar-Jar Binks tier of annoying. Raiden told him to hide and wait to be picked up by Raiden’s allies, but he got caught and taken back to the lab where they turn orphan brains into pilots for robots. When the doctor tried to take the boy hostage, the kid told Raiden “I don’t care about my life, just kill this a-hole” and Raiden, “aight, bet.” and sliced both of them in half. But because they were in a medical/cybernetic lab advanced enough to keep scooped-out brains alive, there was more than enough to save the kid. F-k the in-game Epstein, lol.
They were screwing with Raiden’s head in America by “making him listen to the thoughts” of the enemies he was fighting, because Raiden justified killing to save the orphan brains by saying adult soldiers made their choice to fight him. So the bosses made him hear stuff like “I don’t to be here!” and “I just need the money to pay for dad’s operation” and “I signed a contract, if I don’t fight I’ll lose everything” and blah-blah-blah just to screw with his head.
The orphan's "accent" was Guyanese Creole

It is very much a good game, I played it for the first time on hard difficulty, then very hard difficulty, but I have yet to do it on the hardest difficulty.

Definitely watch some gameplay in your free time, I strongly recommend the "highly edited S rank playthrough" from George Salonikh. Plus listen to the boss themes which are so good I actually dedicated a playlist to them all on my channel.
I feel like everyone should experience MGR even if they aren't into action games. That game is THE EXPERIENCE.
