    A vinyl release of the 1989 Warlocks shows from Hampton would be a special set!

    • @PureGerry

      That would be a tricky release based on the usual box set format of ~5 LPs or less, but if they split it up by night 1 / night 2 as separate releases, I would definitely buy them!

    Don't miss out on the Dave's Pick 40 for Deer Creek 1990. Those were my first shows and they're killer. RIP Brent.

      I love that release! Many deadheads won't touch anything 90s which is a shame; there's some gold in that last half decade of the band.

      I loved the later shows from 88 to 95 they were playing on fire 🔥 especially Brent was tearing it up..I live like 45 from Tinely Park and I came home from them shows and was listening to the radio when it pop in with breaking news about Brent..R.I.P

    It will be interesting to hear this one again after all the years to gain renewed perspective on it. When I had "Without A Net" on CD back in the 1990's It was the one Grateful Dead set I had that I found it to be a bit of a chore to listen to. Although the are undoubtedly stand-out tracks, something about the keyboards on it sounded too modern, and the guys seemed to be complacent with letting Bret Midland basically steer the ship most of the journey. The tone of it seemed kind of dark at times and made me think of the internal struggles Jerry was having with 20-years of heroin addiction at this point. The song "Victim or the Crime" seemed to delve into this particular subject. However, I must say that I did enjoy the "Truckin' Up To Buffalo" set immensely as the band seemed to be enjoying themselves again, as well as "Dozin' At the Knick" with it's bizarre turn at the mid-point onwards where it goes into Frank Zappa like mode, which is an extremely rewarding musical experience.

    Got the first press of the VMP Dead boxset, but still almost ordered this one to have it on black vinyl. Glad they gave it a solo release for everyone to pick up

    The "Looks Like Rain" on Without A Net is awesome.. Jerry finally perfected those triads that he flourishes in the build up towards the end of the song. My first show was 12/27/81 Oakland Coliseum. Took in about 40 shows while Garcia was alive.. and Some backstage ! I'm missing " Mars Hotel" on vinyl.. I'll wait, my bonus tracks on Cd will suffice. I used to get ( and still have soundboard from Dan Healy ) Also.. Rock Scully was a personal friend.. Good vid !

    Happy to say I to say I managed to snag a really good original pressing of this record on ebay about a year back. Nice to see it get a re-release, it's a gem in their discography especially after the rather tepid performances chosen for their previous live albums Dead Set and Steal your Face!

    Hi, I'm looking forward to getting my copy. Have had it on CD since it came out. It's my favorite live Dead album.

    Nice hearing your thoughts on this one. I was very happy to see it get a re-release on vinyl as I have owned and enjoyed the CD for awhile. I’m debating picking up the Barnes and Noble “Bluejay” colored version.

      Saw that!- Got the black vinyl- pretty good. they're not 180 gram and the bass imho is not as juiced up as the cd- Seems to be lil heavy on the tre le cause jerry sounds a lul "young" on some songs. Almost seems slightly faster than the cd. Clariry is good though; hear high end chimes that you couln't on cd- so its a wash in my opinion. Nice to have the artifice i guess.❤😊

    Thanks for the heads up on Terrapin Station! Back in June, I bought a NM 1980s pressing cut by Keith Olsen (POGO in the deadwax) which sounds amazing. But I pre-ordered this as well. I'll have fun comparing the two. I'd like a reissue of Shakedown Street because my OG has seen better days.
    As far as In The Dark goes, I have the VMP which sounds AMAZING so I won't be grabbing the new reissue.

    I did buy that box it just to get live without an it been so busy haven’t been able to listen to it but I also did buy the new release from Arista of live without it. I’d like to hear a shoot out between those two maybe when I get the time I’ll be able to do it, but how does this new one sound you didn’t give a review on the quality of the pressing sound just wondering thank you

    Hi Gerry

  • @WillCate
    @WillCate 7 місяців тому +2

    You briefly mentioned "Arista re-released it" ... not actually accurate. The new pressing is from Rhino Records/Grateful Dead Records as Rhino now owns these recordings, not Arista

    • @PureGerry
      @PureGerry  7 місяців тому +1

      Aha, this is correct. Rhino is rereleasing the Arista albums, but they're keeping the original Arista record labels, which I think is a nice touch.

    Saying "not currently available" on the web site. Is it AAA or digital files. Does not say on the website, why cant they tell us everything about it so we know if we want to buy it. I do not do digital.

    • @je830
      @je830 7 місяців тому +1

      Wasn't it recorded digitally?

    • @ivansbacon
      @ivansbacon 7 місяців тому

      (MEA CULPA below) No - "Mixed from the 24-track analog master tapes" but it could have been mixed down to digital files and then pressed to vinyl which is what seems to be common now unless a third party like VMP or Analog Productions gets the tapes and makes an AAA pressing. @@je830

    • @PureGerry
      @PureGerry  7 місяців тому

      I'm pretty sure it was recorded digitally, so this is one of those occasions where AAA wouldn't be possible. That being said, I think this vinyl release sounds better than my CD copy.

    • @ivansbacon
      @ivansbacon 7 місяців тому

      I stand corrected, after more research it is the first digitally recorded official release. (the beginning of the dark days of digital, I too was seduced by the dark side but i have since slain that demon and have gotten back to the garden of analog) @@PureGerry

    • @ivansbacon
      @ivansbacon 7 місяців тому

      Yes, vinyl does make digital "sound" better. Analog just "feels" better! @@PureGerry

    Your room needs a lot of treatment. It’s really not up to snuff for judging the sound quality of anything TBH. I both see and hear issues in this video.

    • @PureGerry
      @PureGerry  4 місяці тому

      Hi Timothy, you are right that the echos are pretty bad in that room. I do most of my critical listening with headphones to address this, but I still let the speakers rock whenever I get a chance to.

  • @chrisclarkvideos1969
    @chrisclarkvideos1969 7 місяців тому

    Cymbal sounds.....very bad I remember. Buy the CD. It's digitally overproduced as it is.

    • @PureGerry
      @PureGerry  7 місяців тому +1

      I've put a lot of mileage on the CD over the years. After comparing the two I think I prefer the vinyl version, but that is likely because my analog gear is better than my CD player and DAC.

      I could just be mad at the CD. I shouldn't be. Those were good times. Is Branford on that? Fuck, I need to listen again. 1990 shows? I'm outa line.
