What the fuck are you smoking? These will go 500,000 miles with proper maintenance. The most reliable on the road. Resale has been there for 25 years. Do your homework

I own two Tacoma 1st gen my work truck with 230K original engine and transmission only major service was timing belt, water pump and valve cover gasket. 3rd gen going 80K no issue just oil change every 5K. other than front/rear diff and transmission fluid change no issues it does well off road.

Owned two Tacoma’s and like 15 other trucks. It wins when it comes to overall package. I made money when I sold mine both times as well; can’t say that about too many other trucks.

Buy this truck an you won't be in the market for another truck until 2060. 😆

Most people that want better performance get them tuned which completely changes the way the truck drives daily. Also, these trucks are better offroad than most out there.

Ppl don’t realize the computer systems on these trucks are constantly assessing how the truck is driven. These reviews are done over a few days so the truck never has the time to settle down. I just bought one and the transmission is just figuring me out as a driver. I drive like a grampa yet I’m getting 24 mpg’s around town, not even on the highway. Even better, in 3-5 years I can resell at close to buying price. What other contender can say the same?

Well said, Ryan. I'll be picking mine up in a week or 2. How would you rate highway driving and the overall ride on non-off road conditions for this Pro?

@@joemarchand8313 It has an incredibly smooth ride. Coming from a 07 tacoma it's like night and day. No tire hum or exhaust drone. The transmission seems right at home, with no up and down gear changes that are out of the norm. I haven't really gotten on it yet just to allow it to "break in" which isn't really needed. Seating posting is also a lot better than last years model which was primarily stationary. I'm 6'3 too so little to no complaints for me.

I got the 2023 TRD Sport & getting 24-25mpg on trip 150 miles 300 round trip. Super good on highway. It's not even broke in yet. So much better then my 2020 2.7 on highway... I'm going to do mods on it. So less mpg oh well. Only live once

Relativity is important. The Tacoma should be in the same realm as other vehicles in the segment, and it simply isn't.

My 1993 Toyota Pickup with the 22RE engine has less power than this Tacoma, has the same weird seating position, but it has 306k miles on it with no signs of slowing down. That is why you buy a Toyota, that is what matters in the end.

I know this was posted 3 months ago and late to the party but I have had many trucks mostly diesel (just bought a tacoma TRD PRO) and lifted most of them. Been on many forums reading on lift kits etc. over the years. Changing the upper control arms is never mentioned as needing to be done. This is even reading posts from suspension manufacturers. Having Carli not include them in kits (very well known 2500 lift kit company) or mentioning them leads me to believe this is not a fact and more of something you have been conned into. Please refer me to the place that says a lift kit needs upper control arms replaced, especially for a small 1 or 2 inch lift.

Reliability as measured by Consumer Reports is based on owner survey data. Typically they cover relatively late model vehicles that are still covered by warranty. I would agree with you that late model Rangers etc. are as reliable as the Tacoma. But check back in 10 years. If you plan to sell or trade your vehicle in 3 to 5 years. buy any brand you want and enjoy the latest bling. If you are going to keep it awhile, buy a Toyota.

18:42 suspension is only marginally better than TRD OFFROAD, 27:48 Yeah, wow...😆
Tacoma is the number one seller for a reason. Reviewers constantly say that Tacoma is flawed, and this and that, but please explain what competitor offers a better package? And why?

  • @kinanromman5197

Saying that 2.5” internal bypass Fox shocks with rear reservoirs is “marginally better” than the OEM billsteins reflects a lack of experience with actual off-roading (not speed humps) and is comically wrong. And there’s no support provided for the claim that this truck’s off-road capabilities are exaggerated.

    • @ChrisONeillUSA

In terms of off-road experience with these trucks, I've driven a Tacoma TRD Pro about 40 miles through the Behind the Rocks area in Moab for a camping trip, and another one about 25 miles through an off-road area and forest road system in the Wasatch Front. Call that one 'data collection'. I've driven a current-gen Tacoma TRD Off-Road about 20 miles through a forest road system above Breckenridge on a media trip, about 20 miles on dirt to a campsite in the Sawtooths, about 10 miles on the aforementioned trail system in Moab. May be forgetting some, but those experiences are what have informed my conclusion that the Tacoma TRD Pro is a marginal improvement over the TRD Off-Road, and not to a degree that it justifies the higher MSRP + some asinine markup. Happy to compare notes if you want - mountainwestcarspotter @ GMail.
To be clear, I use these trucks for getting to remote campsites and trailheads. I seldom see a functional reason to drive through truly technical terrain and I don't actively seek it out. That said, I imagine Toyota would argue that the Tacoma TRD O/R and Pro are designed more for the former than the latter anyway. You're welcome to provide support for your suggestion that this truck's off-road capabilities aren't in fact exaggerated.
Overall, I view these halo trims as margin-maximizers. The value to the automakers is in how people perceive them; not in how much functional benefit they actually provide the customer. My take: if their price tags were justified through tangible value, the manufacturers wouldn't need to use bright colors and stickers to market them. To me that feels exploitative of your customer. The best thing we consumers could do is stop assigning hero-status to these high-margin vehicles.
And for the record, my personal vehicle is a 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser. Before that it was a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser.

@@ChrisONeillUSA You make fair points. I don’t have the energy to respond point by point, but just a few things.
First, the OR is a better value hands down. Not arguing this.
Second, the PRO does have a ton of stuff standard like what you’d find on the Premium package, adv tech package etc that makes it less of a crazy MSRP.
Third, man I’ve taken both vehicles off-roading and I’ll tell you I think the comfort factor alone on Fox shocks set them leagues beyond the billsteins. They just don’t compare. Also, they have better cooling and are less likely to fail. But really the comfort alone makes them worth it.
Fourth, the angles on the PRO are undeniably better and would have helped me many times where I’ve scraped or come close to scraping an OR.
Anyway, buying something you like even if it’s not the best value doesn’t make you wrong. Also, some people don’t have the time or inclination to do after market mods. These people are not stupid they just don’t want to do any of that.
That’s all. Thanks for your video.

I’ll see you’re right the Trd pro is definitely not worth the money. Unless it really is and you’re not gonna mod it in my opinion, but my Trd off-road is a great truck. I don’t see a problem with it being geared towards fuel mileage I think if you really need a truck to haul you to get a half ton I think that Tacoma is really sit at a sweet spot for the right owner and I definitely think I fit that. I need four-wheel-drive, something capable to haul the casual couch something to take me down the trail or a rocky road along riverbank to go fly fishing and make sure I can get through the snow in the mountains pretty sure he checks all those great.

It’s the best selling truck in its class
But that I think makes it a bad thing because in every way it falls apart

    • @ChrisONeillUSA
      @ChrisONeillUSA  2 роки тому

Yep. There's a lot to be learned by doing a competitive analysis of the Tacoma relative to the rest of its segment, and then considering that it's indeed the best selling vehicle in its class. Just because people want it, or think they want it, doesn't mean it's good. In a perfect world, the segment leader would be the best seller, but in the absence of fantasy and superstition about reliability, the Tacoma doesn't stack up.

Good review! Highly over-rated truck in my opinion. Toyota engines are awesome for the most part, but... Seating position? Looked like you were sitting in an amusement park bumper car rather than "In" the vehicle. All the other features of this truck can be had in other vehicles also... They sell these because of their reputation and brand loyalty. Otherwise...
Have you tested a new Frontier yet? Curious to see what your impressions would be in contrast to this truck. Thanks.

    • @ChrisONeillUSA
      @ChrisONeillUSA  2 роки тому +1

Yeah, I didn't even touch on seating position, but it's weird. Another demerit. I agree that the Tacoma sells on reputation and brand loyalty, which means Toyota can strip out costs and reduce R&D expenses and while claiming just as much profit margin, if not more. Not a good thing for consumers.
And here's my Frontier review: ua-cam.com/video/R1xye-63Mxw/v-deo.html Two years from now the new Frontier will be in the same position the old one had been in for the past ten years.
