Sciolist have a just seen a unicorn? Someone saying sorry on the internet? Good on you sciolist, it's hard to admit wrong doing especially when it is done anonymously.
I could not stop grinning and smiling at the end of this episode, when you played part of that original first episode. All the memories from the past few years came flowing past. It has been such an enjoyable ride. Thank you Mads for taking me/us along with you. I hope to meet you one day! Cheers mate
Congratulations. Just watch it won't be long and you will be freaking out over 100K. Your channel is growing by leaps and bounds because you offer the public something of worth in your process of rehabbing Athena. They are well edited and always interesting. You are perfectionist ...something we all could take a lesson from. Good luck and have loads of fun visiting Ava.
Great channel Mades. 50k without clickbait is pretty impressive. It’s hard to believe you have been doing this so long. It seems like yesterday you were walking around some city scared to shoot video.
Mads. Since discovering your channel we have followed you and watched everything you have done. Like you we have restored some old boats both power and sail. Now retired (early) we just love watching you going through the same process of whats the best or right thing to do. Now embellished with a love story to-boot, we always make sure we have wifi for sunday nights. Currently sitting out the Med storms in southern Spain, to continue our journey and adventures we follow similar dreams to you. Enjoy the trip over the pond. Sail safe, Ant & Cid (SV Impavidus) xx
It was great to see Jökull again Mads. Congratulations on reaching 50K subscribers! Thank you for another fantastic video, I know you felt like you were yammering on but it helps me to understand your thinking and it helps me with my own planning (which I am horrible at).
Mads I have followed you from the early days and it was great to see that clip of you Sailing.Your video production and ‘presenting’ performance has moved on massively. Looks like a sensible winter project plan. Is it not possible to get access to a heated workshop space to build the new rudder ?
Re the joker, can you not just ignore the bad ones and sister them with new ones ? A common enough practice on wooden boats to sister broken frames or ribs
$500USD per year...STORAGE essentially? DIRT CHEAP. When I had my Boat(s), the CHEAP one ran me $1200 PER YEAR in STORAGE. Oh, you want a slip (for 6 months) that's another $2100 PER YEAR. When I had 2 boats I was paying $1200 for the one boat on the hard (outside and in shrink wrap), and the other was $1900/year in storage (it was a much larger boat), and $2400/year for a slip....Boating where I am is EXPENSIVE. :(
Congratulations on the 50K ! Well deserved. The bulkheads have always disturbed me a little......well not so much the bulkhead, but the bisected portlight. I've sometimes mused at the possibility of adding a matching opaque half portlight at 90 degrees on the bulkhead with a silicone bead connecting the two. It would add even more light into the new enlarged head while maintaining privacy........and reduce my waking up during the night , in a cold sweat screaming, "the portlight , the portlight" !!!!!..... It frightens my wife !! :-) :-) Enjoy your break Mads.....don't think about the boat so much, enjoy every moment with your lovely lady. Cheers. Chris.
Mads, it's been amazing following along on your journey. I became a fan after you joined Alfy for a trip to Vancouver Cove... I've learned a ton from watching your DIY's, there's been a few projects that I've successfully tackled that I might not have attempted if I hadn't seen you demonstrate them first, so THANK YOU!!! There is one thing I have to ask though... PLEASE tell me that you, Ava, and Jorkull (spelling?...) still make time to leave the dock on Obelix once in awhile! Maybe an upcoming Sail Life video should just be you guys enjoying some sailing! Anyhow, thanks again for the videos, you're awesome.
We have been binge watching and #200 is currently playing! We love your personality and dedication to proper work and not cutting corners! You might be interested in subscribing to SV Basik's Onboard Lifestyle. You may be further along with the refit than I know because I am not caught up on your videos, but I think you will find that Teal and his family work on their catamaran in a style that I think you will enjoy. Other DIY channels we watch are Tula's Endless Summer, Sailing Project Atticus, Learning the Lines, and Boatworks Today. We also enjoy Gone with the Wynn's (they give lots of technical info such at their new internet access video and they have beautiful videos), Sailing Nahoa (great fisherman) and another "boat tech/internet" channel is Technomadia (their great loop series). We can't wait to catch up to present time on videos- but will be sad that we won't have tons of your videos to watch each evening!
Excellent channel Mads. I'm a late subscriber (followed a link from Andy at Boatworks Today) and have been binge watching for the past month or so. Now I'm up to date I'm going to find it very difficult to go down to one episode a week!!
It feels a bit crowded beneath 50 k plus subs, tbh, remembering when we were in the three digits ... well done anyway, Mads. Have a ball over there. Regards to Ms Ava. 🍻
If you're still in LA, would you like to bring Eva to come see a really funny theater show in Santa Monica? I'd be happy to get you tickets for it if you like. My treat! Your channel has given me hours and hours of entertainment, and I'd be honored to give you an hour and a half of laughter with singing and dancing, too. Please let me know!
for the JOKER... if you can reach the outer skin of the hull. you may also want to laminate wood strips into structural epoxy bonded members to stiffen the hull instead of redoing the whole double skin+foam injection. dirty quick and effective
Crazy price for your 38 ft on the ground. Here in Italy we would be paying much more for a much less attractive place and ALL DIY jobs are now forbidden... If you want to get an accurate picture of why such an inventive country is sinking, now you've got it.
Well done on getting to 50K - I don't think I know anyone who does boat DIY who doesn't watch Sail Life. And great to see Yokul again - interesting to see how you will do any chartwork if that becomes his favourite spot on Athena as well.
Hi Mads. Love your channel and the easy going way you deal with the many issues you come across during your extensive refit. Just passing on info on a channel you may be interested in. The channel is called 'Sailing Creo'. It's an English couple who bought a Warrior 38 done some work to her and are currently sailing her in Scotland. Hope you enjoy.
So the boat you live on is fiberglass? Wondering how cold it gets there and how thick the ice is in the winter. In Finland it can get easily -25°C sometimes more with the ice at 40-60cm thick. Is it so in Denmark? How does the boat handle this crushing ice? How does it handle humidity etc. It's inconceivable to me you could live on a sailboat here during February.
Enjoying the journey. We all know you were a little tentative early on. Who wouldn't be? Happy for your progress on Athena and the success of your channel. Can't wait to hear Eva say 'Hi Guys!'.
If you are still in LA - I invite you and Eva up to visit Ojai. With enough notice I can organize a little day sail aboard a HR 28 out of Ventura marina. :) don't be shy
Instead of 'gluing' a new ruther, why not send the old shaft to your welder? One off AISI 316L steel plate on either side of the reinforcements, you will have a ruther that will cause no further problems.
Congratulation on 50K. Now that you're such a big time UA-camr with 50 K subscribers you will probably never get around to reading my post but here goes nothing. 1, could you find a small heated shed or one that you could heat for a workshop that you could use to build you rudder in? 2. Could you design your spare head to be used for storage and still retain the ability to use it in an emergency situation in case your primary head suffers a failure and you are waiting for repair parts?
@saillife I just moved onboard my sailboat, and got a Refleks stove. But I only get the yellow fire in the stove. What do you think? Is it the right fire?
Tool tour video!! I think it 'd be good idea if you put together a tool tour video. I know you talk about tools you use every now and then, but a dedicated video about all the essential tools you use and can't live without would be a great resource for anyone out there maybe dreaming to tackle a huge project like this. Keep up the good work.
From you I've learned the amazing power of the cardboard-bluetape-stickup-list and the kata of glorious glorious sanding. Thank you Sensei! My mind is in order and my muscles are toning nicely. Aloha nui īa ʻolua, love to you two, plus Jökull of course. Get some good warmness in da California, eh. :) 🤙
Have a nice journey Mads - congrats on 50K - see u when Ur home again - me ?? just getting my boat on land for the winter, and of course some "smalljobs" done - take are
So I live in North East Ohio, which is known to have all four seasons in a matter of hours. But what I would like to know is how you deal with ice and snow? Do you cover the boat or just keep on going? Where you are docked, do you have to deal with the water freezing?
I love that jökull has found an efficient way to get out of the boat. That side turn is not really something that dogs do naturally, but what will you do with him when you set off on your adventures?
I must say, the reason for having hit 50K subscribers is because you have such an easy going manner when describing your projects. For someone whose second language is English, you put a lot of English speaking people to shame. So clear in your presentation and explanation of all the work that you carry out. Great videos Mads, and I am so pleased to not only be a subscriber, but also a Patron. Long may your glorious and spiffy project last. (Although I can't wait for the end of the project to see how well Athena turns out).
Great video. The blast from past videos shows how all the sanding and fiberglass work has given you a pretty dang spiffy camera presence. Hope you and Ava are enjoying time together
congratulations on the 50K! I wouldn't have had the courage or preparation to take on a storm damaged Hallberg Rassy refit without your videos and your excellent explanations. Thank you!
Probably partly supply and demand. There's low demand and somewhat ample supply of space in the yard, so the amount they can charge is fairly low. Probably some other factors, because from what I recall from other videos it's not very expensive to rent a slip in Skive, so it probably makes some sense that the yard would be fairly cheap. While the demand for shedspace seems much higher (based on the videos) than supply, driving the cost of renting one up. (And I gather a fair number of those sheds are rented somewhat long term.)
Love your channel. You will be sailing , mostly in the North. Have you considered, having, a full size hard top one that would enclose the cockpit. Hylas as a video on UA-cam one, called --> Hylas Hard Top Bimini
what a great recap Mads and blast from the past. So cool to watch and enjoy your evolution. Have a blast in LA with Eva and thanks for thinking of us during your absence. Enjoyed that vid very much.
wow Mads, how time fly. I remember seeing those episodes way back then, so I guess that makes me 4 years older now. :-) It's a blast following your progress. Remember that time you said you were uncomfortable speaking to the camera? That sure has changed. You're a pro now. Safe travels.
Terrific video. Appreciate your insight on living aboard a boat. Congrats on 50K subscribers and enjoy LA. If you ever make back to the Annapolis, MD area let me know. Thanks
Congrats Mads. I've just had a really manic few weeks moving house and only just got broadband up and running again. The best thing about that is I've just binge watched 5 of your videos to catch up. Brilliant work as always! Thanks.
Congratulations on 50k subscribers!
Looking forward to the live stream Mads ;-) Say 'HI' to Eva and congrats on 50K!!
Hey Andy ! Looking forward to your new format !
50K! You’re on the way! Proof that quality content will draw people like flies to honey! Please keep up the good work.
Deleted my original reply, sorry about the tone of it
Sciolist have a just seen a unicorn? Someone saying sorry on the internet? Good on you sciolist, it's hard to admit wrong doing especially when it is done anonymously.
This channel definitely needs more Jökull clips. ;)

Congratulations on 50K. Could you also rate the tasks with a cussing scale. LoL, keep up the great work brother. Peace.
Hello from September 2020 and, Athena is still on the hard
Great channel Mades. 50k without clickbait is pretty impressive. It’s hard to believe you have been doing this so long. It seems like yesterday you were walking around some city scared to shoot video.
Enjoy your LA trip. I look forward to seeing more of your outstanding Athena jobs being ticked off when you return.

OMG our marina only has ONE shower stall, and if it's occupied... well... you wait or stay dirty :( ... we're jealous!
Re: The Joker - Have you found the source of the water that made its way into the bilge ?
It was great to see Jökull again Mads. Congratulations on reaching 50K subscribers! Thank you for another fantastic video, I know you felt like you were yammering on but it helps me to understand your thinking and it helps me with my own planning (which I am horrible at).
Miss seeing your dog in your videos.
Thanks for sharing what the area & marina are like!
Mads I have followed you from the early days and it was great to see that clip of you Sailing.Your video production and ‘presenting’ performance has moved on massively.
Looks like a sensible winter project plan. Is it not possible to get access to a heated workshop space to build the new rudder ?
50k is underrated. You deserve millions! Keep the wonderful, educational, and inspiring videos coming.
you landed a Gold channel...Fair flight, in the future/past ... you seem to know time traveling too
Re the joker, can you not just ignore the bad ones and sister them with new ones ? A common enough practice on wooden boats to sister broken frames or ribs

Hello Mads. Congrats on 50k subscibers. I have just had a thought on your problem with "The Joker". Can the "void" be filled with concrete?
Excellent channel Mads. I'm a late subscriber (followed a link from Andy at Boatworks Today) and have been binge watching for the past month or so. Now I'm up to date I'm going to find it very difficult to go down to one episode a week!!
It feels a bit crowded beneath 50 k plus subs, tbh, remembering when we were in the three digits ... well done anyway, Mads. Have a ball over there. Regards to Ms Ava. 🍻
Congratulations on 50,000 subscribers I am also modifying my own boat and I find your videos helpful
Now, is this going to be the advertising for your "for sale" video? LOL!
If you're still in LA, would you like to bring Eva to come see a really funny theater show in Santa Monica? I'd be happy to get you tickets for it if you like. My treat! Instead of 'gluing' a new ruther, why not send the old shaft to your welder? One off AISI 316L steel plate on either side of the reinforcements, you will have a ruther that will cause no further problems.
This is closer to what i have been looking for...true minimalist, liveaboard, but maintaining practical comfort.
Congratulations for your amazing succes! 50K IS a number!
Question about removing the bulkhead, that bulkhead doesn't carry a load, or support anything above does it?
Enjoy LA. Try and go see the Getty Museum, really nice restaurant for you and Ava to enjoy a meal.
Congratulation on 50K. I love watching your videos. You make me appreciate the things I have and you really put things in prospective
Congratulations on the 50k subscribers. Enjoy your vacation
QUESTION. Would it be possible to buy a small diesel heater to have some heat in the winter for more jobs and also to keep the boat warm
Congratulations on 50,000 subscribers! Awesome!
Beginning to get a bit worried about what happens when it’s all finished..can you reassure me please??
Answered a lot of questions I had building up in this video. Nice that you made it and shared it with us. 😀👍
The low ceiling in the boat you are-(were) living in would get your back even if you hadn't injured it!
Bummer no boat work... But enjoyed just the same, have fun with Ava... 😉
I am watching your videos now for more than three years and I had learned a lot to do my own boatworks. Thanks a lot and congratulations to 50k
Curious Mads, do you ever find time to get Obelix out of the marina anymore? Or too busy with Athena?
I love that jökull has found an efficient way to get out of the boat. That side turn is not really something that dogs do naturally, but what will you do with him when you set off on your adventures?
I live outside of LA would have loved to meet you and Eva but still excited to watch your progress this winter
Great video Mads! Congrats on 50K! Hope you have a very productive winter. Have a safe trip. Thanks for sharing.
Your accent has changed dramatically from your first videos.
That 2014 beard tho.... AWESOMNES!
I must say, the reason for having hit 50K subscribers is because you have such an easy going manner when describing your projects. Do you still have opportunities to sail? Either on Obylix or on friends' boats?
Great video. The blast from past videos shows how all the sanding and fiberglass work has given you a pretty dang spiffy camera presence. Hope you and Ava are enjoying time together
100-200 a year on the hard, that is insane, keep that quiet.I am moving to your yard bro.
I can't believe it has been three years since you have moved aboard Oblex! What a cool marina you live at!
You are so lucky your hard stand costs are so low, some yards where I am would probably charge more than that per week.
Congratulations 50,000 is awesome. Look forward to your videos!
I would really like to know where you got your companionway board latch?
Look forward to these! Saving for a sailboat to live aboard at the moment and this channel has offered so much useful content. Thank you
congrats , are you going to repaint above the waterline and what colors or are you going to keep it the same?
Happy Halloween Mads! I hope you are enjoying your trip!
Racier cruiser, hummmm I was thinking more a day sailer, race if you want heeheh
Congrats on 50k subscribers! Quality content is the way to grow!
RU sure that blanket is to fence ur dog off and not the other boy in the picture?
Congratulations on 50k subscribers!
No surprise.....your stuff is great. Keep it goin mads.
congratulations on the 50K! I wouldn't have had the courage or preparation to take on a storm damaged Hallberg Rassy refit without your videos and your excellent explanations. Thank you!
Don't forget to dig the hole in the ground for the rudder before it freezes solid
I think we've seen you in all of those shirts....
i cant understand why it cost so little to store the boat on the hard there? can you explain, is it a special deal? maybe i should store a boat there!

Great episode. Keep 'em coming!
I hope you enjoy your LA trip, and the boat looks great.
WARNING!!! There is no glorious glorious sanding in this episode WARNING!!!
50K... you earned it! Bask in the glory!
Yes, I remember that. I enjoyed watching the sort of mad dude on a small boat.
That Dane Mads and you make for a good way to learn boat repairs.
50k, Pretty dang SPIFFY!!!
Hi Mads. Congrats on 50,000 subscribers. Quick question? What is the name/brand of the voltage/amp meter on Obelix?
been great following you. I've been watching since 2015 and hope to have my sailboat this time next year
Love your channel. You will be sailing , mostly in the North. Have you considered, having, a full size hard top one that would enclose the cockpit. Hylas as a video on UA-cam one, called --> Hylas Hard Top Bimini
Hey, long time no see Urkle < Spelling? idk
what a great recap Mads and blast from the past.
Thanks
Great video as always, my friend!
Congrats Mads. I've just had a really manic few weeks moving house and only just got broadband up and running again. The best thing about that is I've just binge watched 5 of your videos to catch up. Brilliant work as always! Thanks.
