Joey Swoll is a bodybuilder and entrepreneur who was a partner and part of the creation of Shredz, a supplement company that exploded onto the scene. In just one year, it went from nothing into massive company paying out six figure salaries - all through social media marketing. But just as quickly as Shredz rose to success, it feel apart due to various scandals and sudden negative press. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Joey Swoll reflects on his involvement with Shredz, what really happened with the reported scandals, and why he left the company.
Right when Shredz was a the top of the supplement world, its reputation came crashing down. Reports of sponsored athletes photoshopping physiques and claiming they were results from offered workout programs started flooding the web. Further reports stated that the workout programs themselves were simply cookie cutter routines, that athletes were using bots to pretend they were chatting one on one with clients, and that Shredz was running fake social media competitions that never picked winners.
During all of this negative press, Joey Swoll left the company and has since gone on to other successes including his recent launch of low calorie sauces for bodybuilders. During our sit down interview with Swoll, we asked him to reflect on his entire time working at Shredz and explain just what was happening with the scandals being reported.
Ultimately, as Joey Swoll puts it, the reason for Shredz success was the exact same reason for its downfall. Shredz used social media and sponsored influencers to build a marketing campaign outside of traditional channels. But this also led to a bunch of young athletes getting sponsored and essentially becoming rich overnight. Swoll thinks that's a huge part of the reason that certain athletes got caught up in the scandal.
But Joey Swoll also makes a point to say that he doesn't find much of what happened with Shredz much of a scandal at all. He thinks that certain athletes made huge mistakes - but that wasn't condoned by the company and was handled once the information became known. Swoll stands by the main foundation of the company - which were high quality supplements.

Shredz never paid the money back for the supplements, according to the lawsuit. S.K Labs allege that Arvin & Ankur used the money for their own lavish lifestyles and claim Ankur & Arvin were paying themselves $150,000 per month.
Ankur personally guaranteed the loan. S.K Labs is suing for $2M in damages...success just came tooooo fast for them to handle it...

This is what I remember: I was following Arvin, he posted daily. His posts were super inspiring and actually changed my life. I looked at his posts every day. Then the Devin AdobeGains scandal happened. Arvin released a video saying Devin was no longer with shredz.
But then Arvin just went cold! He stopped posting! He went from posting every single day for like years, to all of the sudden, once every year and a half! Immediately after the Devin scandal. I was so bummed. I was like wtf Arvin we needed your posts bro.

He seems like a great guy nowadays. I can’t really tell if it’s all an act or if he’s a genuinely good guy, but I want to believe that he is a good guy. I know that at the time of this video he was struggling with a lot of shit

I was taking shredz years ago... when it first started. Can't remember how I got introduced to it.... but I was all about shredz. My honest opinion.... at least for me, it is one of the best supplements I have ever taken. Worked amazing, I had great results. My reasoning for leaving shredz was the Devin Physique stuff, it just didn't seem right to me what he did to his assistant. And there is plenty of other good supplements out there.... i was with them for the ride, I saw them change and grow up...... but it was time for me to move on as well. I do miss the good ole days where Paige, Ainsley, Joey would message u back and give u advice. The motivation was what kept me around... but once the devin thing happened.... people started leaving after he got fired because it was controversial. It kinda ruined the image.

@@chrisbuehler6868 no, there are plenty of supplements nowadays that have science backing them up. Not all, but a few like caffeine, creatine, beta alanine, etc. And the studies even tell us what the effective doses are

@@chrisbuehler6868 creatine if you're training for strength and muscle size, beta alanine if you use higher reps, maybe Peak O2 if you do a lot of cardio or other endurance work. Just keep in mind while they work, the amount of benefit is less than TRT, lol, but they will offer additional benefits.
Other than that. It's mostly about good diet. Get 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass (doesn't have to be from protein powder. Can be from food alone) along with proper sleep and hydration
Because you text doesn’t mean you don’t train hard, it means you text during rest periods. Personally, I use my phone for music, I log my training on Strong App, and often take business calls or messages.
Thanks for this. I texted when I used to lift, or took notes, during rest periods... and felt alone/judged for sitting there texting. But, I have to rest between the sets! What am I supposed to do, stare at the wall w my mouth open waiting for a fly to munch on?!

Shredz was over priced and had zero supplement stats on any of their products and if you called the company they would not tell you what was in it and the shit tested positive for small amounts of led. I like Joey and still follow him but bro it was more then just hating Paige was altering her pics to the point that wasnt even how she actually looked Devon was clearly a proven slimball too, they robbed mfs blind while they posed with 200,000 dollar cars... Joeys answers HAVE to be diplomatic because his brand is his livelihood. The public is not owed an explanation of the intricacies of his previous venture-likely to protect his current partnerships, employees, public image, etc.
