Saw Paul and the band in summer of '76 in (near) San Francisco. Waiting in line to get in (for at least 2 hours) the talk all around was would any of his former band make a guest appearance. Well, no that didn't happen but...the concert just blew the packed house away!! So glad I got to see it! ✌
If you want to hear Paul completely own the stage with his vocals, there’s a few songs from this gig on UA-cam. Call Me Back Again, Beware My Love and Soily are off this planet IMO.
"My heart is like a wheel: let me roll it to ya." This song just rocks and is one of my favorite Wings songs. Denny Laine was a top musician in his own right. Try Wings: "Mull of Kintyre": that is my favorite.
Dude, you have to do Maybe I'm Amazed from this same movie called Rockshow! An amazing vocal performance you will never forget. If you view it check out the interplay between Paul and the band. A well oiled rock machine and... extremely underrated!
Nowadays when he performs it, he lets his band mate Brian take the bass part, while Paul does a killer lead guitar on his Gibson. Then at the end they go into a bit of Jimi Hendrix’s “Foxy Lady,” and Paul just shreds. And he’s 78!! (well, 75-76 when I saw him)
A few years after Beatles split up Paul formed this band called Wings. They really started from scratch loading all the equipment in a van along with the band. They drove up north and eventually they stopped by a university. Paul went inside and introduced himself as Paul McCartney to the Headmaster and said this is my new band Wings and we wonder if we could play here! It didn't took long time before Wings became huge!!
@@MsAppassionata Offcourse everyone knew who he was but this was a couple of years after Beatles split up and he had been out of the spotlight for a while. I guess he didn't take a success for granted.
This is from his Wings Over America Tour. I was lucky enough to attend his concert in Houston Tx, back in 1976. Amazing concert, I was about 50 feet from the stage and even though I have seen Paul six times, this remains my favorite Paul concert. I was 20 years old at the time and I will forever remember this concert.
You want to hear some crazy bass playing while he sings lead? Watch the live version of Silly Love Songs. Holy crap, I don't know how he does it, but it's amazing!!!
Wow! I'm so thrilled you did a reaction to this song, one of my most favourite! You should definitely see more of "Rockshow". He was a beast in his 30s! From the same live show I recommend "Maybe I'm amazed" and "Call me back again" killer vocals! And from RAM album, definitely check "Monkberry moon delight" the song is an experience and the vocals will blow you away! Peace! ☀️
No Linda, no McCartney solo career the way it turned out, or Wings. she pulled him out of his low point funk when the Beatles split up. Linda's background vocals were an essential ingredient to the Wings sound. Sure others could have done it instead, maybe even better, or TOO much, but the Wings sound turned out that way and is very recognizable.
Thanks, Dereck...This song is also amazing. You are learning about Paul. He is one of the greats.....more to come .By the way, "they" say it is a song to John Lennon. By the way, I saw him during this concert tour, 1976. he is saying his HEART is like a WHEEL. Let me roll it (his heart) to you.
I saw Wings live in Los Angeles, Ca, in 1976. Everything you felt, multiply those feelings times infinity seeing it live!! I kid you not! Paul is a great front man, always has been. The energy of being in the audience was electric. It’s a beautiful memory.
YOU CAN SEE this, this is another song from "ROCK SHOW" his entire 1976 Seattle Kingdome concert. You WILL LOVE the ENTIRE CONCERT. PLEASE WATCH ALL of "ROCK SHOW" and react to it, they do a great acoustic set in the middle with fantastic songs, ROCK SHOW was originally shown in movie theaters. My friends and I went to see it 6 times even though I had seen this concert in person in Detroit. IT's on YOU TUBE and on DVD, HOPE you will watch the entire concert. YES react to some Beatles TOO and JOHN LENNON solo stuff
Dereck - really enjoying your posts. I've been a Beatles/McCartney fan for over 40 years now(!!) and how I envy someone like yourself having a chance to hear these tracks for the very first time. Have you heard 'Maybe I'm Amazed'? Regards from the UK, Mark.
Yeah, this is Paul doing an ‘homage’ to John L stylistically- (the guitar riff) AND it’s Paul reaching out after a period of estrangement friendship wise. And I think the ‘let me roll it’ It’s a way in - heart like a wheel- They were rock and ‘rollers’ Great song!!!
Hope you have a great 2021 DERECK..... WINGS is one of my favorite bands.. Paul really worked so good with Linda, not alot of boy / girl energy in a hugely ego driven industry.. the song by Wolfgang van Halen is so so good, it's worth your time to listen to.. Wolfgang's voice is so pure ,the song actually made me cry a little bit!!
Nice review man. I love The Beatles and their solo careers and a lot of the older music that was before me as I was born in 84 so I enjoy others like me enjoy it
Dereck You are in album "Band on the run" the most and greatest work by Paul McCartney I hope you react to "Band on the run" one of My Top 5 songs of Paul McCartney history and see you in all your ABBA react
@@debjorgo It should have been released as a single, I guess it was Beatle politics that prevented that. Of course the later live version was a single. I just prefer the studio version.
Hi. Small but vital correction: It's not "the Wings" but just "Wings" as in Paul McCartney and Wings. (I saw them live three times, the band was red hot terrific.)
Please react to: "Paul McCartney - Fuh You". That song will generate a very visible, genuine & positive reaction in you that you would be happy was recorded and shared with everyone.
This is great movie-concert. You need to watch "Venus and Mars / Rockshow", "Letting Go", "Bluebird", "Live and Let Die", "Magneto and Titanium Man", "Soily", "Medicien Jar" (this with a great guitar solo) and "Lady madonna", among others.
So funny watching your reaction...The vocals are so good, the way they come together is so good....Dude...he is Paul McCartney for God's sake. Yeah this is an awesome song, and PM is awesome, and he expects his band to be fricken awesome (which they are!). How much I love this song, and how much I love the Beatles. You need to understand you are listening to a God. Hell, I need to remember I'm listening to a God. I love this song so much.
There’s no one Lennon song that sounds like this if that’s what you’re looking for. They’re just referring to the style of echo on the vocals. Lennon did that a lot and Paul’s doing it on this that’s the only comparison.
Phenomenal? It's called talent, and McCartney had it in spades as the critics dissed Wings upside down and backwards all the time just because they did pop tunes that sold millions while doing all styles with no damned apologies, from Let Me Roll It to Silly Love Songs. Musical preference is formed by what we are exposed to very early on in life, especially corporate radio network playlists and repetition and peer pressure. Not by whether it is good or bad by some kind of elusive definition or educated ear. We like to put people and music in convenient little boxes to feel comfortable and safe in our choices. Like the Blues Brothers 1980 movie joke "What kind of music do you like here mam?" "Both kinds, country AND western." McCartney refused to be defined by one genre. No, not all of his songs are great or perfect, nether was anyone else's. Remember, he and the other members had to crawl out of the the shadow of the Beatles on hands and knees and rebuild from nothing, and McCartney DID IT, sold millions of records since. So screw the critics. Now he is SIR Paul McCartney and the critics are NOT. Did I mention he is the richest musician in the world, NET WORTH valued at $1.2 billion in 2020 last I read....Bring it on, critics HAHAHAHA, losers....
John Lennon wrote a very nasty song called How Do You Sleep which was anti Paul. Paul’s response was this song where he mimics John’s style on the first Plastic Ono Band album. BTW It’s a brilliant album and I love both John and Paul together and individually but it wasn’t John’s greatest moment.
Paul is my favorite Beatle, both as part of the Beatles and post Beatles. You can't go wrong with reacting to his songs.
Same.
This is from the Wings Over America tour in 1976. The amazing live version of Maybe I'm Amazed is also from this concert/tour.

I cannot listen to this song without singing it ugh I love Paul so much
Great song! Many more too! You got a lot of treats coming with him.
In my opinion these years when Paul's vocals were at his pinnacle. I wish Paul would do more work with his Rickenbacker bass than just the Hofner.
Paul normally plays a Hoffner bass, but this one is a rickenbacker
Nowadays when he performs it, he lets his band mate Brian take the bass part, while Paul does a killer lead guitar on his Gibson. Then at the end they go into a bit of Jimi Hendrix’s “Foxy Lady,” and Paul just shreds. And he’s 78!! (well, 75-76 when I saw him)

Paul McCartney - Flaming Pie/Got Yo Get You Into My Life - Good Evening New York City
Paul is brilliant
Yes, was a b side to Jet (so was a song called Mamunia, forget which was first) but is also on the Band On The Run album.
Hard to belive he can sing such a song. Year year that was in the beginning. Amazing 🎉🎉
