I probably would have made the bishops themselves exempt from the rule, since they're suppose to be the ones defining it. With that, you could always move your own bishops to change the Church color as needed. I think that was the intent behind the challenge.
But this stricter interpretation was also interesting, and more impressive.

    • @HalIOfFamer

Definitely since it's obey the church and not conform to church. Church is the legislative power and the rest of the pieces are the vassals.

I see you interpreted the order of operations differently. You're interpreting it as:
      (1)Move a piece
(2)Does it match the latest bishop color? Then it's fine and his light bishop would match itself by default
But Simp always goes for the harder interpretation. Simp's order of operations is:
(1)Check what the last bishop move was
(2)Simp's only legal moves are moves that end up on that color (therefore his light Bishop has no legal moves)

I like this because you have to think about if you want to take the opponents bishops or not, because they are integral in allowing you to actually play on other colored spaces, and you have to think about getting use out of your own bishops before they become dead pieces. If you take their white bishop for instance, your white bishop can no longer be moved once your opponent moves their black bishop
