I supported RM Commando units in Helmand and I was continually impressed with their ethos and professionalism. They were the most elite of troops and yet never needed to shout about it, this was one of their most admirable characteristics. Even under the most trying of circumstances they were always relaxed and joking away, being around them was very reassuring. Great documentary…..
Several of the US Marines participated in the Royal Marine Commando training in the 70's and 80's. I can tell you from firsthand experience it truly was a challenge. When you receive the beret and that entry into your perminate file you'll turn heads at every duty assignment during your career.

Bear Grylls does all the crazy stuff on screen and has a while camera crew following him. Chris Terill does all the crazy stuff on screen AND off screen and he does all the filming by himself.

I like the fact that they keep supporting each other even in live combat with things like "good effort". Keeping everyone positive. And, in training those recruits understood that even after they finish and see live combat, they'll need to do it a few more times to really get confident and ontop of everything they need to know to be truly effective. Things like dealing with injured soldiers without panicking or losing discipline, which is VERY different for real than in practice. These guys are are basically what you get if wanted a regular army's worth of special forces.
I’m ex forces guys and was in the Royal Air Force from 1988 to 1997. I never did anything worth mentioning really but was proud to serve my country anyway. These guys are absolute warriors and as brave as they come. All of my respect boys and may god go with you. 🇬🇧

Keep safe guys. You are doing a great job. My Grandad, and Dad, were both marines. My Grandad fought in the Boer War, serving on the HMS Doris. He was decorated with a 7 bar medal. Also he served in the 1st World war. My Dad fought in the 2nd World War as a Marine too. I myself think that I'm lucky enough not to have fought in any war. But for those of you that fight in the British forces, keep your heads down & keep safe.

I start my infantry training 21/2/2016 for the regular army, I tried out for RM but you have to be on another level. Seriously fit blokes, seriously switched on.

Less than month after finished training and he is leading his troop in combat. What a tribute to the quality of the man and the training. Now, days after the withdrawal, we can begin to put the whole conflict into context. It is not an unusual mix of incompetent and corrupt politicians telling brave servicemen to go and risk their lives - only then to find that political expediency is to make a cowardly retreat, leaving all those Afghans who supported the Allies at great risk to fend for themselves. Have you seen the Taliban now wearing US uniforms, holding US weapons and in charge of US helicopters? Unbelievable. Whoever agreed such a chaotic, short time frame withdrawal is a disgrace to their country. Who, in their right mind, would now trust the US? I don’t and I’m British. It’s not the military that we have to distrust for those are men and women of superb quality but the politicians, the bankers, the arms manufacturers. To paraphrase Kissinger “to be a friend of America can be dangerous; to be a friend is fatal. God bless combatants of both sides. When in trouble just call the mighty Apache (if a Warthog isn't available)... I can understand how hard it is for a soldier, who's been through multiple heavy engagements with the enemy, to accommodate to a civilian life. Although I've never been in the military, let alone through a gun fight, I presume that the level of excitement and adrenaline rush is incomparable to anything else in the world. When your life depends on guys from your platoon and their lives depend on your decisions and actions, everyday grind of the civilian life seems more horrible than facing an enemy.

What I've learnt about commandos in the commonwealth: They're not spec ops, they're spec op forces. Totally different style, they're more about show of force than subtlety.

You can hear the fear in his voice but the training takes over and he’s In amongst it, you can’t do anything less than watch these lads in awe
