The man who made this series deserves enormous credit both for passing the RM training at 55 years of age and also for filming alongside the active service marines in a war zone. Mr Terrill, you are a credit to the Corps.
@@JammyDodger45 I understood he had just passed the four Commando tests until I heard reference (in the film I believe) to him completing the entire course. Perhaps you are more familiar with Mr Terrill’s achievements. I have to say that just passing the 30-miler at his age is significant; never mind all four.
@@Sam-ch9mn - totally, hence I say kudos to him. But at the risk of causing a 💩 storm on here, the Commando Tests aren't really that difficult, a fit robust club athlete could pass them (with the appropriate training on the obstacles etc). 'Test Week' is just a hurdle to get over but I doubt it features in any Recruits 'top 5 hardest weeks at Lympstone'. The hard aspect is doing it after 7 months of relentless thrashings, sleep deprivation, calorie deficit and carrying the inevitable stresses, strains, webbing burns, blisters etc that you pick up along the way.
@@JammyDodger45 That’s an interesting observation. I think you make a good point. It’s not just about completing the tests, it’s the development of mind and body - and a big dollop of self discovery - to get to the point where they take place. Very fit and robust athletes, as you say, may have the physical strength to complete them, as Chris Terrill demonstrated. But of course RM recruits are not becoming athletes; their fitness is only a part of the criteria for passing out. It’s a very long time since I stood there and received my beret at the end of the 30-miler and regrettably, possibly through age, I can’t remember that moment. However, like most, I have never before or since been tested, physically at least, to such an extent. I think Terrill’s achievement is much more than gaining (an honorary) green lid - his skill and bravery in the front line filming in Afghanistan et al shows a high level of commitment to the Corps.

I remember watching this in like 2015 and remembering how timeless this documentary is, how unbiased and real this documentary presents the Royal Marines but still makes me want to join
RIP you will never be forgotten
you and I don't forget but the govt will as soon as they stop paying you
Wow James gets posted to serve under Bertie! That is just a great thing to watch, these two guys really seemed like genuinely good people! Thanks for your service - An Aussie brother.
R.I.P Orlando Rogers. Thank you for your service.
He died while paragliding
All these lads are my Hero’s, Williams is a great man, down to earth.
The British flag should fly flawlessly.
I would lay lifeless in a pile of brass, if Tom needed a brother to die with in the sand... 🇺🇸 cheers to Tom, and the rest of the fallen.. Rest in Strength
The most heart warming comment in all of this feed ❤️
That was poignant and beautiful.
Fucking well said lad. Per Mare, Per Terram
God bless you men and your professionalism . We owe you big time .
R.I.P Vinders.. Absolute animal of a man❤️🙏
I used to work at the airport and any time I saw someone that had served the country or going to serve, I had always thanked them for their service
No such thing as a country
RIP Tom. I have really enjoyed this series especially because i want to join the Army.
This is not the army though, this is the Royal Marines Sir. But yes, massive amounts of respect from me towards these men, They deserved that green beret 100%. I only now wish I can endure the 32 weeks of, well, hell. And respect to Tom. His death was not in vain. He died with the Royal Marines, and probably was proud to die wearing that uniform, and serving his country to the best of his ability. God bless him, and any other servicemen who has died fighting for our countries.
+TheBasicYankee no soldier if he's honest wants to die for Queen and Country but they will die so they don't let their mates down. They fight for the guys next to them.
+TheBasicYankee fine words my friend.
Always interested to see if people who comment this 3/2 years ago do actually end up joining the army?
I'm so gutted my life screwed up so early and so jealous because I wasn't there to fight alongside them, NJ it joining is m yh biggest regret.
Thank you lads, for your service to us all, home and abroad. 🏴🇬🇧
Well done all, well done. Thank you for your service. All the best from an Australian ally.
Wonderful documentary on the royal marines!
I'd love to buy Marine James Williams as many pints as he could keep down were I ever to meet him. Good work and God keep you safe!
It was a pleasure to watch this series. Regards from a German grenadier (Recon-Team)
RIP Tom. Thank you for your service.
Mr Williams WAS MY KIWI EXPERIENCE BUS PASSENGER. THAT WAS ONLY MONTHS AFTER HE WAS DEPLOYED TO AFGHANISTAN. (nearly 20 years ago.)
HE IS A LEADER AND A gc.
SALUT TO YOU, SIR THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
Really enjoyed this series! Respect to the brave soldiers that go out to Afghanistan!

+TGXgaming360 14 is no age to decide what you wanna do in 4 years xD why, you ask? one word: puberty.
+Barbaren Baum im nearly 15 I've already hit puberty 😂
+TGXgaming360 am 16 and I am joining the marines next year
good luck!Ben Miller
No harder than you've done before just this time it's real bullets. Can't believe the calmness that he says this to set his new lad at ease! That's a true leader
This documentary made me go and join the infantry after watching it in 2012 and I served for 5 years 🇬🇧
R.I.P Tom a true warrior/hero we salute you. 🫡😢 All respect and love to those that serve the U.K 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I have a new found respect for you lads, not that it was lacking to begin with. To anyone who passes basic, hell even attempts it, well done. You are the best of us.
And Tom's dad, my heart goes out to you, so proud in such a heartbreaking situation.
Does anyone know if James is still with us today? Mass respect to all these lads. Yous are the real backbone for this country
I think he left the marines and he’s a fitness instructor now. That’s what Chris Terrell said in a tweet.
The beginning part that looks like comic book strips is really neat!
one thing you notice when in Afghanistan is how beautiful the people are, they really have some of the best bone structure in the world, they lucked out genetically, generous people to,
wish them well.
Bertie left the corps in 2012 to become a city banker, thank you for your service
I don’t blame him. He seemed an intelligent guy and you can’t fault how he handled his squad and himself, he was fresh out of training and he done a fucking amazing job. Hope he’s living a good life now and is happy, lad deserves it
RIP Tom thank you so much for your service. Fly high king
What these young lads did with the kit they had is a testament to the professionalism of the British armed forces
I can never find words to say thank you to these extraudinary men.
I always find a tear in my, not afraid to say that either.
Toms Dad, love how you say that you are so proud of him and for sure that is what Tom would of wanted you to say.
RIP big fella and thank you.
James mum, again what a lovely and remarkable lady.
I was held hostage in Iraq and I owe so much to the British Military for helping to release me and I was a working civilian, I can never repay you....thank you once again.....Gary
Biggest respect in the world for this chap,RIP bud🙏💪💪💪💪
I have realized at the last episode that these series are so captivating many have hardly pressed the like button as they race to the next & the next 😅
Just realized myself when I finished the last one & am racing back to like all the episodes

Royal marines or US marines. Hard as nails, Top guys.
The training alone is wow. I've loads of respect for them. Just feel sorry for what happened over the last 20 yrs. We know what I mean. Just be proud of what you do and did.
Semper Fi Marines, from across the pond
Ryan McDonald I wish all Americans are like you.

Forever lost but never forgotten.
Australia 🇦🇺 America Britian and NZ and to all our allies thanks for keeping us all safe.
British Military, the best. Those RMs are bloody fit lads.
I was logistics and I'm proud of my service and regiment but I will allways be so thankfull and show so much respect to the marines for the pure bravery and balls they have. Rip tom
Good to see James Williams was also a diamond during the training phase! He was born again hard and a top bloke as well during this series.
I hope he won the Kings trophy while at Lymstone and had a long and successful career in the Royal Marines. Thank you for your service.
James Williams is SAS level, blokes a machine. Top respect to all servants of our military, past and present ✊🏻🇬🇧 god bless those who lost their life’s in duty of our nation x
More likely SBS but no doubt tried for SF. I didnt agree with Afghanistan war but not soldiers fault. Go where they're told
@OakApplegardens plenty of bootnecks go to Hereford. I guess they don't fancy diving in zero visibility and cold water.
Tom you wont be forgoton
WOW God bless Tom, and the Royal force
I'm going to get my fitness levels up and then Try joining the royal marines.
Brandon McMahon Same same but in my case it will be the ADF.

Men that aspire and inspire, I Salute you.
(RVN Veteran)
I’m 9 and I’m going to join the Royal Marines at 18 god save the queen rip tom
Yeah right..laddie
Rip Tom, I hope you know whereever you are, your father is proud of you. Rest in peace.
I hope they hurry up and complete the cure for asthma soon so I can join the Royal Marines
You can still join but only if you can like keep it under control sort of or you could just joking the normal army.
I can help you with that I had asthma and I trained and trained and I'm only 15 so train and you will be able to do it
+Frank Watson If you have sports induced asthma you can work it out with sport do long distance running and also shuttle runs this will introduce cold air to the lungs so it gets used to it like a small form of adaptation and it will stop inflaming so bad or at all, if you work hard and don't stop your physical work it should say away but if you stop for a couple of weeks it can come back a bit or fully. I have no exsperance of this working with normal asthma . / Dont go full out on the first couple of weeks in not fit it wont do you any good/ IM NOT A DOCTER BUT I HAVE HELPED WORK OUT A PROBLEM WITH MY LUNGS A WHILE BACK FROM LUNG BUSTING WORK NOT ASMTHA
I really only get asthma for a couple weeks in the summer when I get hayfever. But that's a couple weeks too many.
Mmmm that dont sound to bad then i think there is a possibility of working it out , but dont use your inhaler for 4 years before joining
Big respect from the royal artillery 😎
Who's here in 2024? 😂
Can't wait to start training!
Marine Tom 'Vinders' Curry, nor any of our fallen, will ever be forgotten. May he and all of them who gave their lives rest in peace.
I have so much respect for these boys, just incredible mental and physical toughness. I wish they didn't have to get sent to these places but that's not how the world works, and people like me can live a peaceful life because of lads like these.
Can not wait till I join up! Going to love every second of it! I say that now but it will be worth it!
It feels like i know this group of men proud of everyone of them 🪖🇬🇧
6:45 . They lose Tom Curry (Vinders) . The Crew pushes on. Total respect for these men.
Rip brother In arms protector of your own a royal soldier and gone but never forgotten ❤️🇬🇧
RESPECT to these lads i hope to start my training soon.
Much respect to the Royal Marine's Commando's. God Bless Ya Guy's ♥♥♥
Personally I want to join the RAF as a pilot when I'm older because I've wanted to do it since I was 8 and I'm on track with qualifications to get there. So far I also pass the medical requirements like 20/20 vision. Wish me luck:)
Any updates?
"go right for the queen, simple as that." Brilliant
R.I.P Tom you will be remembered
Fantastic effort guys. R.I.P to those brave lads that paid the ultimate price. I believe the young officer, Orlando, lost his life too, but in an accident outside his military life, if I am not mistaken. These young men are so rightfully proud 👍.
