Hi Guys! What do you think the animal was? 🦊🦌I thought a deer at first but now I'm thinking it might have been a fox. And do you think the screeching noise later on was a female fox, or something else?
I think it was a fox, they sound horrific like that i had one a few metres from camp once making that racket for over an hour it put me into a panic it was so loud and so constant
I’ve always said that I never feel closer to nature than in the rain. I think it’s the absence of people and the raindrops on my tarp or face. Another lovely excursion!
It was actually amazing, most of the videos of men i see on youtube is when they are in rain and survival situations, or they just show you how to survive or make a fire while raining. Here you don't have it, you just have simple camping without making fire or any decent shelter. The food is there, and she has also bottled water. Some commercial about dry bag in meantime and everything is fine, no danger, no helpful survival information, just chill. I like it.
Gosh, that is a tiny tarp! There's something special about tarp camping in the rain, it's like the right balance of being in the elements but also just sheltered enough. What a fun adventure, thank you for sharing it with us!
You won't go wrong with an Osprey rucksack Claire. They might be expensive but they're super comfy and really take the effort out of carrying heavy loads. Hope you get some sunshine on camp soon 👍🙂
I truely admire your willingness to routinely expose yourself to the cold and WET!! I don't like being cold and I don't like being wet and I especially don't like being cold AND wet, LOL. You have my admiration and respect, Young Lady!! Best wishes.... Ax
Another stellar video Claire! It certainly looks like your tiny tarp did the trick and your stealth wild camp was successful and fun :) Your always upbeat attitude and obvious love for the great outdoors are truly an inspiration my friend! Cheers.... -John
Their is nothing like lieing in your tent nice and dry and listening to the rain and wind.Really peacefull and at one with nature.Love your clever minimillistic attitude .
Hi Claire, you made it to New Jersey today with your adventures and videos! Thank you for sharing positive energy! Stay safe and I'm waiting for more. Cheers !
Backpack - I'm using a 1.1kg 60 litre Naturehike Rock. It's minimalistic with a small tubular aluminium frame that spreads the load well. Price varies, they can be as low as Aus$90. I did a 12 day hike with 2 food restocks so it's good for 5 days food + tent, etc. It's basically a Chinese ZPacks rip off.
You always seem to make the best of any weather situation. I've only hike-camped a couple times in Rocky Mountain Park in Colorado - all my other camping trips (about 100) have been on canoe river trips where we can carry lots of gear. Having to pack extremely light and efficient is a real challenge.
Great videos, I used to love hammock camping in the Peak District. I’ve been unable to get out for quite a few years now. Your videos bought back some happy wild camping memories. Thanks. 😊👍
That was enjoyable! Loved the stars in the trees! Big Dipper, my Fave! Love your music score..! Had to Sub! Nice to see more ladies out in the woods! Assuming you carry some kind of protection as well.. I heard from other toobers about how bad that storm was...I think it came all the way from the S.E U.S.? Where I live in Central U.S. its been unusually dry barely any snow! Happy an inch today...then dry sunny and warming to 50's next week! Maybe I will work on some shelter ideas in my back yard...hmm. Thanks for a lovely little trip! Looking forward to more! Best Regards, Mindi
I just found your channel and I’ve been binging it. I dig your chill attitude and how you are willing to share when you aren’t an expert. I also like how you get our by yourself so often. Hi Claire, what a cozy chilled feel this video has though i looked on with dred as i can't stand camping in the rain so being just under a small tarp open to the elements is not for me. I'm so pleased that you have got a new drone after those deep fern's ate your last one, you should make a video showing us non flying folk how to use one as they look like great fun & the footage that you have posted before is brilliant. All the best.
Heyy, yeh tarp camping in the rain isn't for everyone, certainly not with a tiny tarp 😄 Thank you, this drone is actually no.3, I lost another one after that first one was lost 😭 No.2 lost connection up on Glyder Fawr and whizzed off 2km into the distance before running out of battery.. sad times. So this one no.3 is second hand. I don't think I'd be the best person to do a drone how-to-fly 😂 I could maybe do a how-NOT-to-fly haha, or a how-to-crash-your-drone. Thanks so much for stopping by my lil vid :) Have a lovely eve! Claire 🌿🐻
Hi Claire, greetings from sunny Malaysia 🇲🇾. Nice little overnighter in the woods there despite the weather. Fantastic nightime shot of the stars through the trees 👍; have experienced something similar out here in one of my local wildlife parks, except it was fireflies and seen from a small rowing boat under the trees; an unforgettable experience in this increasingly concrete and brick world. Looked just like lights on a christmas tree. Keep up the good work with the videos. ATVB and stay safe 😷😎☔...it's still our rainy season out here
Hi Razif, ahh that must have been absolutely beautiful! I've never seen fireflies. I've found glow worms before but nothing like what you have in Malaysia 🐛 Thanks so much for watching and best wishes from rainy England! 🌿Claire
Hi! I’m out in my backyard rain testing my new Coleman Skydome 4. 36 hours of rain, no leaks! I got this huge tent hoping my wife would try it. Last week I tested my new Lightfighter 1. It was dry of course. I almost forgot it was nylon, the sag in the wet reminded me!,
I always use a much larger tarp. If stealth camping, I pitch it low to the ground, but still have plenty of space. Like you I like going out in the rain, so a larger tarp also allows you to reconfigure if the weather closes in. Love your videos by the way!
definitely Claire beare is something special with that positive smile and scared or not she soldiers on . lovin the vids Claire , keep them coming 🏴
Claire, I am really glad that you mentioned choosing kit that blends into the environment. For people that live and work in the countryside, it is rare to see them wearing dayglo colours that so much hiking and camping kit features. In places like the Lake District or North York Moors (which my home turf) where there are many hikers but the sight of hundreds of people on the hills with bright coloured jackets on a weekend really is pollution and spoils the natural beauty of the landscape that those people wanted to enjoy. It is also a place people live as well and I do think walkers need to consider what it is like to live in place where hundreds of people walk every day within yards of their home. The 'leave no trace' message is one that has sunk in with most people but I would add 'blend in and minimise impact'.
Hey Brian, yep I agree although it takes me time to be able to afford to change my gear to blend in more, it's the direction I want to take even if it has to be gradual. Although, there is the safety aspect in that it's safer in an emergency or rescue situation to be wearing bright colours.. I know that a lot of people wear brights for this reason, particularly in the mountains. Thanks for watching & commenting and hope you're having a lovely week :) Claire 🌿🐻
Wow your followers are going up. Good. Love your little vids. Love the way you say "Morning Wild Ones". Love the naturey bits. I hope you go far. Thank you, its refreshing and a tonic.
Another wonderful vid. You mentioned that you might be looking at a new pack. I think when you look at most 65L - 95L internal frame packs, you will find that hey run around 4-6 pounds. Yes, I am in the U.S. and usually look at things in pounds. If I got your current pack correct (Vango Sherpa 65), it appears to be 2.34 kilograms (about 5.16 pounds). If you look at many 65L packs, I think you are probably looking around 4 pounds (which is about 1.81 kilograms). And, you likely will not have the side pockets that you have on the Vango. So, what features you want could also affect your choice. One instance is Gregory Mountaineering has their Deva series (for women) and the liters are 60, 70 rather than 65, 75 etc.). The Deva 70 comes in 3 sizes extra small, small, and medium. Eah of these sizes affects the volume and weight. For instance, the extra small is 65L and weighs 4.66 pounds/2.11kg. The medium size is about what your Vango is in weight and is 75L. And the maximum carrying load on the Deva series is 55 pounds/24.9 kg. There are also other series (jade, Amber, etc.) by Gregory with different features. Also, I think the Deva series is one where you can change the suspension system. You will want to confirm this if you decide to look at Gregory. Osprey has of course many models as well. For instance, the Aura AG 65 which has three sizes (extra-small, small and medium) and the weight is 4.26-4.42 pounds (about 1.91-2.00 kg). And their Ariel 65 model weighs around 4.8-4.9 pounds (about 2.1-2.2 kg). A third company (and there are of course many more companies) that you might check is Deuter (Germany). They have their Aircontact Lite 60 + 10 SL which weighs about 1.9 kg (1900 grams). Now, their Aircontact 60 + 10 SL weighs about 2.4 kg (2400 grams). Those are just a quick three that I pulled up (that are not ultra-light). Good luck on your search.
One thing that comes out of all your videos Claire and which maybe the best skill anyone can have is you can quickly adapt to all your situations. Thinking them all through in whatever weather your in. Very commendable ability that few have. Your attitude of your there so you will deal with it is similar to a well seasoned outdoor person and strange you consider your not, when you show you easily are. Another good watch so thanks.
Aw thank you Arthur :) I do ok with adapting to new situations in wild places, strangely I'm not very good at it in 'normal' life and like my routine.. funny how it goes like that haha. Thanks so much for watching and hope you're having a lovely week :) Claire 🌿🐻
@@WildBeare Enjoyed everyone I have watched, and look forward to watching more, and I am sure in your normal life you can handle most things, or do what your good at and adapt it to suit you. You have shown yourself in some harsh conditions and you stay smiling, where alot wouldn't, that you cannot teach or learn, as it is in you anyway, Stay safe.
Hi Claire, great video as per.Credit to you for using that very small tarp in these brutal weather conditions we’re getting at the moment, hardy and thick skinned girl you must be 🤣🤣.Its just as bad up in Scotland.Love the drone 👍😆.I use the Raindeer 55 rucksack by Wisport.Think its 52 and half litre, but has an additional 10 litres if you need it by lifting the lid,I love it,loads of pockets etc..very comfortable.take care best wishes.
I also love bivi and tarp camping. Trust in the waterproofness of your bivi sack. Your legs can be outside the canopy coverage in the rain in order to create a little better dry coverage at the head end. Consider orienting your pitch 90 degrees about turn. A ground sheet will usually only collect puddles and be counter-productive, as I suspect you discovered? For wind protection try a plough point pitch with legs outside. Small tarps are a challenge. After a wet week pack-rafting Norway's Sognefjord with only a 1.7 x 2.5 metre tarp... I custom made a bigger tarp! ( in lightweight sil-poly from Ripstopbytheroll ) I am very pleased to have discovered your channel and eagerly await the next instalment!
You can't go wrong with the osprey backpack most comfortable thing you'll ever carry on your back, ag65 or 50 they are not exactly the lightest but they are just the best great video can't wait for the next one
Hi. Just watched a Paul Messner video and a top tip he used for camp cooking was that he used baking parchment in his frying pan! He cooked ribeye and fried eggs, he also fried bacon on it too! He just placed the parchment in his pan (this acted like a non stick coating) put a little oil on top of the parchment and away he went. Worked a treat! it even charred the bacon 😀 Lovin the videos, keep up the great work.
I've camped with similar gear in similar circumstances, though where I live rain is seldom courteous enough to come straight down. Two variants I've used, both drier than the regular a-frame. 1) Lean-to style: (You sort of used this, with one side of your tarp longer than the other). Peg the downwind side of the tarp to the ground to block wind-driven rain, with the opposite end higher for convenience while sitting/cooking. At night, snuggle under the low side to stay dry (assuming your tarp doesn't bleed through on contact!). 2) Modified A-Frame tube style: Stretch your roof guy from ground (at the down-wind end) to a convenient high anchor at the upwind end. Tuck the wind-end corners of your tarp underneath as extra ground protection. Guy the tarp at the high end however high or low you like. The open down-wind side has lots of height for sitting/reading/cooking. At night, snuggle down into the 'pointy end (again, assuming no bleed-through). Depending on wind direction/conditions, some rain may swirl into the opening. Both of these are effective in winter weather too, although blowing snow can curl over the opening and drift into the shelter..
So brave to camp in the cold , dark ,wet, woods under a full moon , with wild creatures announcing their presents . Oh and a drone gone wild .. Best part was the hot chocolate and whisky , and you smiled the whole time . You always make a difficult situation seem normal . You truly are a special young lady .You see the positive in everything . Your product review was informative . Thank you for sharing your adventure . You and your vids brighten the day
Defo a fox. Noisy throughout Jan Feb. I keep saying on Facebook groups, the decision to get an Osprey bag is the easy bit, the difficult bit is which one. 😂 I decided on the Kestrel for overnighters and the Aether for multiday hikes myself and very glad I did. Nice video and yes you do seem to wanna be out in the rain. Now instead of looking at the weather forecast to see if its gonna rain I now check you tube to see if Claires going out 😂😂😂
10 our of 10 for effort. You really do get out there no matter what circumstances.I love how you cope with all the noises in the dark, I know from experience it can be really unnerving.I have to laugh as It does seem you always seem to find a bog to set up in. lol.
Claire, that tarp just needs to be a warm dry weather number, Thought it were a Shield bug probably totally harmless as herbivore, You are made of tuff stuff, I would winged in such exposed site. Felt possibly the ridge was to central, only! The tarp set up was inadequate, you stood the hardship, brilliantly. Been following Karen the tall beautifully hipped lass, Like you has got pluck. Stay safe. Idea Set up a monthly tribe of Amazonians! Would work well. Managed by Girls.. Cheers
I enjoy your videos but something I've noticed is the ceiling height of the shelters,I was taught to keep the ceiling height as low as possible in cool/cold weather just high enough to shimmy into your space since heat rises and the low ceiling keeps the warmth closest to you, less draft and better rain shelter..enjoy
I love the way you talk about 'maniacs' when your camping in a muddy field in the middle of winter, sleeping under a tiny tarp. lol. Your positivity is inspiring though.
You need a hex tarp for camping. The 5 sides make the length longer, more tie off points while giving you more side wall protection. Square, rectangle tarp camping is emergency style from the back of your auto. I use a tent 10% of the time now since having a hex shaped camping tarp.
Nice to see you nice hope you had a great time bit wet shouldn't let the wet rain 🌧️ stop you if you did you never get out long you had a good time end of the day stay safe and stay warm and stay healthy nice drone you got blessed be
If you want to further waterproof your dry bags or any bags get some white spirit and some ordinary clear silicone sealant from screwfix or somewhere, mix them about 50 / 50 and paint it on generously, hang up to dry for a couple of days. WIll be very water repellent. Dont panic about the initial change of colour, it will go back to the natural colour after drying
I love watching your videos to wind down at night and just keep them playing to fall asleep to. Id love to sleep in my garden but unfortunately weve had visitors from robbery scouts (they were checking if our house was worth it i guess) and im a bit scared to go out into my own garden at night :( I might sleep on the balcony this weekend though. I love breathing fresh air and listening to sounds and just laying beneath the stars 😍
I’ve just picked up the Osprey Kestrel 65 which is the blokey version of the Rook. It is by far the best pack I’ve ever owned. The selling feature for me was the ability to unzip the whole front for quick and easy access without farting about through the top cover. And they come in green!
Hi Claire, Your videos are amazing. Looking forward to the next one. I have been using a Karrimor Panther 65 rucksack for ages. It is well designed for walkers. With easy access to kit and the back support system is adjustable, comfortable and stable. It is 2.1kg, so only a little bit lighter than big blue. It can hold 65 - 70 litres.
Have a look at Aarn backpacks. They are a New Zealand product that is substantially different to other systems. I have been using them for years and they are light, durable and very comfortable. Unlike other backpacks they are kind on the knees, hips and back as they allow your back to stay very upright when carrying a load. Cheers
Keep up the great work! Really enjoy your videos - they feel very immersive. (I vicariously get some of the same feelings watching you make camp, get the stove on and layer up as I do when I'm out myself.) So restorative getting out in the hills!

That drone clip was so funny! It's great you add real life stuff.......
You are always so positive happy when I get stressed watch few of your movies and wish I was like you
That drone!!!! Haha eating the tarp. Great video. A bit of comedy goes a long way
A true rain Goddess, very informative vlogs well put together
@@shogun666able Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱 and my little lifestyle and freedom channel 😀. Feel free to check out! Have a great day ☀️
6:15 Nice bug! A real beauty! I haven't seen those for quite some time and when I did, it was only in Summer.
Fantastic nighttime sky shots. Stay dry!
( in lightweight sil-poly from Ripstopbytheroll )
I am very pleased to have discovered your channel and eagerly await the next instalment!
Wut a special spirit u r! Truly lovely. Special experience it is 2 share.
I never get bored watching your channel in fact when I need to chill I watch more, you really are an inspiration to others, keep up the great vids.
ahh thank you so much :) have a great week!
Awesome video, thanks for posting, I can't wait for next one.
You can't go wrong with the osprey backpack most comfortable thing you'll ever carry on your back, ag65 or 50 they are not exactly the lightest but they are just the best great video can't wait for the next one
Great stealth. Can't wait until summer, at least the rain will be warmer!
Worked a treat! it even charred the bacon 😀
Lovin the videos, keep up the great work.
Wow, that is a good idea! :D Thank you, hope you're having a great week :)
@@WildBeare my pleasure. Yes thanks, back in work (tattooist) after a week off with covid. Have a great day sausage 😀.
First time watching, could watch you all day. Great channel and beautiful person.
You and your vids brighten the day
Ahh thanks John that's very kind of you to say :) hope you're having a lovely week 🤗 Claire
Cool video and happy new drone.I think the animal was a creature of the night.
So dearly lap up your bright positive attitude Claire.
Wow you do have a lot of courage to go out there by yourself and brave the wilderness, the elements, the wildlife like that. It's very inspiring.
another awesome program i like to see ppl enjoying life :)
Always fun to see, keep going.
Defo a fox. Noisy throughout Jan Feb.
I keep saying on Facebook groups, the decision to get an Osprey bag is the easy bit, the difficult bit is which one. 😂
I decided on the Kestrel for overnighters and the Aether for multiday hikes myself and very glad I did.
Nice video and yes you do seem to wanna be out in the rain.
Now instead of looking at the weather forecast to see if its gonna rain I now check you tube to see if Claires going out 😂😂😂
I absolutely adore how much you love nature and wildlife. It really comes across in your video's.
Thank you, I do love it so :) have a lovely eve! 💚Claire
Always love your macro videography ❤
I enjoy the videos. You show that you have a good deal of experience and admit when things don't go as planned. The naughty drone had me laughing
Cheers
Always, my favourite part is "Good morning" Thank you for the great video, can't wait for the next one 🤩☀️
Love your videos. Thank you for uploading.
I absolutely love watching you for your content and you are beautiful. Keep it up. Thank you!!
Nice to see you nice hope you had a great time bit wet shouldn't let the wet rain 🌧️ stop you if you did you never get out long you had a good time end of the day stay safe and stay warm and stay healthy nice drone you got blessed be
Bilbo drone going a bit nuts there. Hilarious! Great posts great channel.
Id love to sleep in my garden but unfortunately weve had visitors from robbery scouts (they were checking if our house was worth it i guess) and im a bit scared to go out into my own garden at night :(
I might sleep on the balcony this weekend though.
Gosh Claire, what a hardy soul you have become xxx
Hi Claire, Your videos are amazing. Looking forward to the next one. I have been using a Karrimor Panther 65 rucksack for ages. It is well designed for walkers. With easy access to kit and the back support system is adjustable, comfortable and stable. It is 2.1kg, so only a little bit lighter than big blue. It can hold 65 - 70 litres.
That sky looked amazing...sooo many stars
Claire grylss once again amazing vid ,loved the pics of the stars amazing ,keep them coming wild child 👍👍
second video ive watched with you. props to you trying. you definitely can make yourself more happy with same equipment.
Just got in bed, about to watch your video and I'm stoked because rainy weather is my fave! Take care and be safe!
Another entertaining video, thank you for sharing your adventures.
Thanks for watching :)
Bilbo does seem a little bit naughty! :) I love how you have names for all your kit.
