- J and Heather picked up a few cars from auction and this one J kept for herself. Kyler (Twisted Sage) had the idea to shoot us building one of the kids a trucks. He knew what car was coming, but none of us had any idea how much fun these little xBs and projects with family would turn out.
She has awesome taste in cars. This thing is super unique. I expect this to go viral on the Scion forums.
Honestly friend, we got slammed in the xB group pretty hard so we slid on out.

Tons of people wanted to take their xB camping due to the massive room inside but ground clearance was always an issue. Great build!

I just bought a second gen to replaced my double cab, long box 2015 Tundra…and I love the xB.
I have a built 1985 C10 and a 1990 Foxbody and I have to say, the xB is giving them a run for their money…so much so that Ian considering selling the Foxbody to take on a first gen xB as a project.

Now all of us first Gen XB fans need a parts list and a build guide. Prob not wanting to cut the front for a wench since 2 strong people can pick those things up and move them.
The winch was for fun and so we could use some parts from our normal build brands. But I could toss up a parts list🤔

Great video bro. I absolutely love the Scion Xb. I have a 2006 gen1 and a 2011 gen 2 both are great vehicles.
We picked up a gen 2 and lifted it also. The extra power is nice but they aren’t as fun to mod as the 1st.
I also have a 2006 and 2011 xB as well!!!! RS3 and RS8 💚💙
One day soon you'll be able to import a Toyota Bb 'Opendeck' which is one of these, but with a mini truck bed and opening cab rear a bit like a Subaru Brat. It would look aces with this treatment. A+ rebuild - looks so fun!

Light weight is an important equation to off roading. These only weight 2400lbs
Did pizza delivery in rural az in a 2nd gen, unmodded except for a train horn and a police PA system the darn thing saw more dirt then most of the local trailer queen "off road" trucks. Held up till I had "steer"ing problems and nailed one in the shoulder at 2am. Thing was a blast in town though.
These second gens are tanks for sure. We have a lifted one and it’s a blast to…….go get milk in.

Why why why did Toyota stop the design of the old Scion XB. The toaster is legendary for space and fun. If they can bring back the old body back. With a hybrid powertrain or an Eevee powertrain. That will be great. And maybe also include a van-like sliding door. And maybe stretch it about a few inches. It is a really really great vehicle. I used to have one. I just picked up one again. Going to do a few tasteful mods on it. Hope to keep it till I am called or per God's time of my life to leave. I'll hand it to my son. Berri No-ICE.

That roof rack is amazing!!! I’ve been wanting a roof rack, but like you mentioned, there aren’t any that I’ve seen that are like the one you built. Id love to have the same one on my Xb. How can we make that happen? Lol
The next one I do will be welded on cross rails from the start. That ROLA rack has worked for us more than once
Just wait til you find out that the Toyota BB is more capable off-road than most trucks.
We got the model that got kneecapped and dumbed down, but in Japan this had an option for a 1.3L turbo with 4x4. Absolute killers with a lift.
Safe to say you’ve not owned many off road trucks with a comment like that.
Can it do rad things (AWD version in Japan) and adventure? Yes it can. Is it better off road than most or even many trucks? Well….Thats just kids saying silly kid things and that can be fun too I guess.
How much would it cost for me to get something like this done?
These both cost us about 8k each, including the cars, so it’s not too terrible of a hobby.
I’ve had a 2006 Scion XB since 2006 and still love it! I’ve always used it more like an off-road vehicle than necessary.
I’m very interested in having mine converted. Are you taking orders?

Bug-Uns. Can’t remember but they are 29” tall I think.

2.75 inches, however, their are other sizes available.
Randode makes actual lift kits for the first gen xb. Did you by chance look into them?
Randode is a one man army of lift kit spacers
After we built the second one, we learned of the metal ones he makes. Seems much better than the Polly spacers.

Where can I get a list of all the parts you put on? Where is the snorkel from?
We didn’t make a list. Many of the parts were not “scion” parts and some of the junk was custom fit. Snorkel is a Jeep XJ but requires some modification.
Can u list the parts and links here for the off road suspension , rim, tires , and roof rack

How much lift are you running? Did you use a lift kit? How big are your tires? TIA
We did 40mm lift kit to get the tire to fit well
My 2nd gen xB had the TRD drop package , but i went with stock struts & look higher than that . maybe is thats different body
We did a second gen also with the same lift and some goodies but it looked trash compared to the older ones.
What tow hitch did you use and how did you mount? I’m wanting to do something similar
It’s a weld on hitch, we just welded it to the sub frame so we could haul bikes. It’s not adequate for towing.

There are companies both here in the US and over seas that make lift kits for them. On these we ran Cooper Evolution on one and Hankook iPike on the other. These things are pretty rad for what they are.

We made them out of aluminum scrap. It’s more a splash guard than a skid

It’s about 2500 bucks for the bolt on parts including tires and wheels.

Jisoo goes through a tank a month, so its hard to tell for sure, if I had to guess.... 73mpg ...because I'm a dreamer
Especially with current gas prices. This maybe the only option for some people.
@ToyotaLabs these snorkels I seen on other lifted xB1 enthusiasts have this very similar snorkel. And I was right, they produce as cold air intake because it does sucks air cold which that’s a good thing.
And these are made from 88’-01’ Jeep Cherokee.
Could u tell me, what other parts did u made it work to install a snorkel?
Let say we start from the top of the snorkel, to the fender, then what else what other parts did u use? Maybe a randode aftermarket brand of cold air intake? As long as it still needs a mas airflow sensor.

We starred this last winter, so we haven’t done much but put gas in them since we finished. She already wanting something that handles I84 better.

I’d think that, from building 2 of these, you could put together signature parts to sell. Maybe an adapted snorkel kit? Or lift kits, etc.

Lift is 30mm, snorkel is for a Jeep XJ, the armrest off Amazon has a cup holder and apologies but we cannot post pictures in these comments.

Tires are still tiny but yes, we did lift it 20mm via some Amazon lift kit.
Love it! I have the identical car, and the lack of ground clearance is my only real complaint. Just curious, what size tires did you put on it, and how badly did it hurt its highway and acceleration?
We only jumped up to a 40mm taller tire but kept the same width. Truth be told, we did everything at once, so it is hard to pinpoint exactly what percentage of the decrease in performance is the tires fault. BUT. The decrease in performance was offset by the increase in fun. Also, the taller tires lower the RPMs and on Idaho84 it’s a big deal @ 85mph.
If she ever wants to sell that thing I've been looking to lift my 2008 scion xb for years lol. How high is that lift? I live in Utah and adventure all the time out here. Camping in the scion is great and I have 181,000 miles and it's still going strong.
It’s about 2.25 inches. She is actually selling her little monster now. We are building her an RX330 AWD

Great video! It is possible or was possible to buy the bB, the Japanese version of the XB in all wheel drive or four-wheel drive, so it might be possible to get the component pieces to make yours four-wheel drive.
The parts for the AWD conversion are available for around $3k. We just were not that committed. Lol

The silver one rubs a little, but we used new Monroe Quick Struts with eBay 40mm lift kits. We’ve learned there were better kits out there.

Not really, we bought a lot of stuff that didn’t end up working, some stuff we built and some of it was sitting on our shelf. But if you have any specific questions I would be happy to answer….perhaps I can do better than 5 months next time.

The Second Generation XB looks 10x better, it looks more modern and nicer. The first Generation XB is just ugly, I don't know why people liked them back in the day's they look weird.
