Mr. Martin my father sent me an article about you and I learned so much from the crash in france to your patented trolling motor prop. Even you were a mathematics teacher in Brazil I believe? You inspire me more than you’ll ever know and I want to say thanks for sharing your knowledge over all these years
So one problem I am ALWAYS explaining to people is that, with trout, if you want to catch a big holdover fish, you can't let the fish see the line. Which means very small diameter lines for your leaders. That, also, means very light drag settings. Which means when that fish runs, you are getting line twist. You can go the day with doing that, but it needs to be fixed after each trip where you have hooked some long running fish. And that means EVERY time you hook one. at the end of the day, straighten the line. Using spinners, if the ball bearing swivel is not quite keeping up, let the lure hang a few seconds to unwind. And then fix remaining line twist at the end of the day. A very good tip, Mr Martin. I consistently catch 5 lb trout at my local lake where most people are astounded by a 2 pound fish. Light line and a very good, smooth drag, and eliminate the twist before storing the reel at the end of the day.
My son's and I love your channel. You give so much helpful info and I feel I learn something new with each video. Your teaching skills really shine through to every age range. Thank you Roland, from the Bell Boy's 😊👍🏼
Thanks Mr Martin, that is what I see all the time, and just so happens I loosen the drag and pull the line until the loop on the spool comes out. I get so confused by turn the new line spool this way or that way that I just put it on and hope I see the line twisting up before I get a bad wind knot!
I learn something new everytime i watch you and jimmy. Thanks for all the tips i will pass these on for many years to come. God Bless we appreciate you Roland
Thanks, this will help a good deal 'down the line' 😂 I bought a Zebco Roam recently. My other Zebcos are all spincasters, this is the first spinning reel I'm giving a try). I like some elements of the spinning reel (when it's working) but the line's been driving me absolutely bonkers. I had a swivel on the line to begin with - just catching bluegills, nothing major - and barely had any drag on it at all, but started having issues anyway. Turns out, I was letting the auto bail flip kick in on the reel back and apparently that's a huge nono - which makes me wonder, why have it on the darn thing at all if it's going to do all that. Even after not doing that, though, I still had issues. Hard to believe the tiny amount of drag I have on it is doing all that, but I dunno. My bigger issues is the line not only gets tangled above the spool, but it also finds a way to get under the hub. It's so bound up under there now that even giving up and slicing it off doesn't free it all up, and trying to reel back in is starting to become a huge pain in the tuchus! Why the heck would it be getting caught up under there?
When I was a kid, my father would tell me to grab the end of his line and walk till he told me to stop and drop it. Then he would reel it back in. Who knew?
Thank you Mr. Martin!👍👍 great tips! I hate trying fluorocarbon on a spinning set up...I've had to litteraly cut off 25$ worth of line after a few casts🤦♂️ I will try your tips!!
This past spring I caught over 250 white bass on a inline rooster tail in 1/8. I plan to change by buying them snap's you showed. The line twist was fairly irritating.
Thanks for sharing your tips. Can you teach an old man how to throw an open face bait caster without back lashing it up? Any tips would be much appreciated. Born and raised with a Zebco 33 in my hand. Thanks again Roland
May be a stupid question just started fishing 😅 is the hook off at the end of the line while reeling? Or can you do this in the grass with the hook attached?
Hey Roland, Il my name is William Triplet. I'm a big fan with a quick question. Back in February I had an accident in which I lost some of my fingers on my right hand. I re-trained myself to tie knots but it takes FOREVER. So I bought some power clips to speed things up. Do you think they will effect my bite? Or how will they effect my fishing altogether? Thanks. Sure do enjoy your videos. Keep it up!
This is why i started just using braid. But my leader line always snaps at the knot because i dont want to tye an fg knot for 5 min..lol i need to practice tying that fg
Would add two additional reasons for Line Twist: 1) Improper loading new line on reel 2) Closing the bail (that wire that lays the line over spool) using the handle rather than your palm Always manually close the reel’s bail at the end of your cast or you will wear a spot in the reel gearing and get line twist. Be well.
@@Devjowya Great Question and congratulations on your new gear. When first starting out, I had guys at a Fishing Store do it for me as they explained exactly how. Spinning reels are different from baitcasting reels. Braid is different from mono or fluorocarbon. The most important issues: “Backing” to keep the line secured to the reel. Initial knot to the reel (goal is to be very small with minimal tag) Tension (goal is to have the line on the reel tight but not stretched) Wrapping (goal is to have the line come off the spool so it “wraps” the same way on to the reel) If you really do not want to go to a store and have someone teach you, there are videos on how to do it. Remember, there are always multiple ways of achieving the same goal. Pro Tip: Establishing a relationship with a local tackle store will speed your learning curve, be introduced to new, successful, seasonal techniques and they will have a “vested interest” in your fishing success. Be well.
Unfortunately this method doesn’t work all the time. I’ve used it since I was a pup. Some times these nests develop a knot really fast during a battle. Some times all you can do is cut and strip. I’ve “knot” 🤪 had this issue so much (its rare) with braided line, but it does happen and as Roland said “its even worse”.
So funny, I spent the whole day thinking “why the heck is my line twisting?” Then this video pops up, perfect timing!
Roland has a wealth of knowledge and we are fortunate that he is willing to share.

Thanks Roland,,, your videos are the best for new angels & those how are picking up fishing again... Keep them videos coming...
YOU DA MAN!!! God bless! (PS - Thanks for repeating words and phrases, as some of us are thick-headed! I appreciate it!)

Wow that de-tangle saved me alot of time. Thanks!
Thanks Roland, you are still a good teacher & may God bless you!
what I got from this video:
"got a line tangle? *Go walk a mile* "
Wow! the best tip/fix/explaining to a problem i get when spinbait casting! 5☆ Thank you for the video
Great tips-thank you Roland.

Thanks Roland! This is something I deal with often. Love your teaching videos sir! Be well!
Hi Roland I used to love to watch your show great video thanks
I learn something new everytime i watch you and jimmy. Thanks for all the tips i will pass these on for many years to come. God Bless we appreciate you Roland
Ok RM that was very informative fishing tips for all fisherman every person who is just starting out should watch this great video 👍👍
Thanks for all of the great tips Roland, I for one, really appreciate your wisdom!
Good line twist tips Roland. Thank you.
Great advice Roland, another thing with line twists is how the line was originally spooled on in the first place this could also be a factor.

Thank you Roland, I never knew pulling drag out twisted the line.
Yes, so obvious but I never thought of it. Could have avoided a lot of trouble and losing a lot of good line over the years.
I just love watching your videos Roland
I ultra super rarely ever have this problem but damn it that’s a very awesome tip/technique to know for my boys! Ur The F’N MAN!!!!!!
Mr Martin that was great information. Thank you. And God bless .
Thanks Martin. Great Video! Now I know how to get the twist out of my line.
I love your videos, I always learn something new and you explain things so well (Why to do something) so I'll remember for the future ;)
Very informational Roland because I just started using that style of reel cool good to know
Great stuff for even the old guys like me ... Thanks Roland.. The Frye Guy..
Thanks Roland, great tips. I appreciate you for sharing. Take care.
When I was a kid, my father would tell me to grab the end of his line and walk till he told me to stop and drop it. Then he would reel it back in. Who knew?
Same! He told me that as well when I was a kid.
This is what my youngest son and I needed to know--TODAY!
Everyday, bro!
How to avoid line twist ?
- Buy 16 pounds braid, dont reel slack braid without tension and dont change between lures with big weight difference
Thx Roland 👍…Helpful To Many Fishermen I’m Sure…
Great video Mr Martin. Love the helpful hints

Great video thanks again for your time and help 🐟
Roland, you're a Legend.
Thank you ! You have taught me so much to use while fishing with my Grandchildren. Also does your Neighbor do videos on shooting ?
Great video. Nice tips. Thank you for sharing.
Great at explaining things, THANK YOU!!!
Thank you for that easy helpful tip! :)
Gosh this always happens to me! Thanks Roland!
Roland . Is the lake to high to fish right now? I am planning a trip to your camp real soon.
All the Arizona fishermen are saying "What's grass"?
Hey Roland who started calling things “the deal” in fishing?
It was something that I didn't even know thank you
Thanks for sharing your tips. Can you teach an old man how to throw an open face bait caster without back lashing it up? Any tips would be much appreciated. Born and raised with a Zebco 33 in my hand. Thanks again Roland

My main man roland, thanks for the help👍
How did you figure that out that that would work dragging the line through the grass
Very good video. Thank you sir!
Great video. Thanks for the info!
Roland, will this also work for line twist on a bait caster?
This is why i started just using braid. But my leader line always snaps at the knot because i dont want to tye an fg knot for 5 min..lol i need to practice tying that fg
Can someone answer a question for me still new at this . what time of the year should i be throwing buzzbait?
I catch so many Northern Pike and Smallies on those Mepps Spinners. Hard to find nowadays and the Pike destroy them after like 10 fish.
Get them on Mepps website.
brother i thought that was a civil war kicking off in the background
Wow, I have been pulling out my line for 50+ years. No more!
Great video

Hey how do I properly put the line on the real I’m new to it

A great tip. THANKS!
My reel is so bad it’s started spooling under the reel I can loosen or tighten drag
Thanks for the heads up
I'm new to fishing and I've somehow messed up bad enough that it's coming out if the bottom of the reel anyone know how to fix??
Thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks!!
All the more reason to use braid with Fluro or mono leaders
Good stuff
Also when u have too much line on your spinner reel 👍

This never ever happens with braid main and fluoro or mono leader. :)
There's simply too much line on that reel.
So much walking I’ll just cut the line

Ha ha this guy is so crummy
Thank you!
