    As a older fiberglass bass boat owner I have a decent amount of knowledge with what your going through. First, take care of the trailer. Replace the bearings or buy a complete hub and bearing assembly: second buy lots of multi grade sand paper. 400-3000 grade. Wet sand the gel cote to get it back to a new shine. Go to south central outboard sales or someplace like that and get a rebuilt lower unit . You can put a new floor in but make sure and treat the wood . I’d recommend using fiberglass resin , sand that back down then place new carpet. Since your gutting it , run all new wiring and use a heavier gauge then you think you will need .

  • @immortaldeadfast5530
    @immortaldeadfast5530 2 роки тому +2

    Use an impact driver and a case-hardened bit to remove those stubborn screws from the chair mount (there's probably one in the case where you got that red craftsman, the kits these days typically come with a drill and an impact. In general, always use the impact for screws and the drill exclusively for drilling holes). If that doesn't break them loose, it'll break them off entirely. In either case, the chair mount will come up.

    I've been watching good ol ayo with his boat restoration projects and now yours lojo.
    I know nothing about boats except they float 😂.
    What excites me about seeing these boat projects is that I really want a boat for myself, can't afford one...
    Wish I could get one so I could take the wife out and maybe a couple friends out fishing or just a cruise on the lake.

    Just a recommendation from my boat project days. If that boat was made with foam under the deck you are going to have to remove the whole thing, gut all the water logged foam and inspect any wood stringers and replace all the rot. Re-fiberglass the deck and all will be back to new. So much more to go into detail about, so talk to the boat Builder’s and they can be a wealth of info. Good luck brother and thanks for taking this on, good times to come!!!

    Your hull is salvageable but do it right and remove all the rotten wood.
    You could learn a little glasswork/carpentry and make yourself some customized compartments.
    Be sure to check trailer wheel bearings to save yourself a future towing accident especially since it’s been sitting so long.

    When you lay the new carpet pay attention to the grain. You want to make sure it lays in the same direction and lays down towards the drain. Keep the old carpet as templates. Surface prep is key to gluing down the new. Sanding and cleaning with acetone prior to glue.

    Fiberglass is super easy to work on and cheap. A lot of people new to boats are afraid to buy a boat that looks like it has a little damage. But they are actually super easy to fix. You can buy the fiber glass and resins. Apply it, Sand it, Paint it.

    On your floor bracket, drill the heads off the bolts just enough to pull the bracket over it. Try and leave as much as you can so when the mount comes loose, you can grab the part still sticking up with a good pair of vise grip pliers. Make sure to stay as close to center of the bolt as possible. Start with a smaller drill and work your way up to the bolt diameter so it doesn’t try and “walk” on you so bad. The reason they only put it on one side was so you could put a pedestal in that seat and fish an extra person from that position. You can probably cut that rotten wood out from under the console and replace the wood in halves or just the section that needs it depending on how bad the floor is. Just make sure to glue and reinforce the repaired section when you install it. Did that on a buddies ski boat and as far as I know it’s still working fine.

    I have had multiple Evinrudes from that era and when you get em fixed up they will run forever. You should have tried heating up those bolts with a torch and then using an impact gun with a socket and not a drill. I would recommend watching some videos from Tiny Boat Nation on youtube. Especially the wiring one if you don´t know what your doing. They have so many great tutorials for everything you could think of on a small boat. Thats a great boat and it will look and ride great when finished! Keep up the great work LOJO

    Hey Lojo! I've rebuilt a few boats over the years, never a fiberglass boat tho. I do have some experience with this evinrude engines tho. If that is still running the vro system, find someone to get rid of it for you. Those vro systems, (variable rate oiling), suck, and are the #1 reason those engines die. Get rid of the vro and just run a pre-mix fuel and she'll run dang near forever.

    but your floor will have to re glassed but you will have to cut out the floor you have wood stringers under the floor they will have to be checked they are the foundation of the floor. be very careful removing the floor because the floor is very close to the hull on the sides. remove the floof starting in the middle of the boat in small sectioms for checking the stringers BIG JOB

    Floor under and around seats wear out the fastest, especially on older boats. Two things that will help you in this process. Step one: get a grinder and cut out the section of the floor that’s soft. Try to leave at least a 2” piece of fiberglass on each side of the piece cut off. This will both allow you to re-glass the area that’s been cut with new material, and give you the opportunity to check the stringers and do a moisture test on them. Chances of the stringers needing redone are high, as it’s an old bass boat and they didn’t do a very good job sealing all that stuff back then. Next step, if stringers are done, is to pull the cap off. Basically, remove the motor, go around the edges of the boat and pop the stables out of the rubber trim and remove it. This will give you the ability to use a hoist(or 5, lol) to life the top half of the boat off, revealing everything beneath. If you have any questions, you can message me at “Bastrop Anglers Club” on facebook, this way I don’t post my personal info on youtube haha.

    Hey LOJO I'm in the middle of a boat restoration myself the few tips I can give you are you can buy livewell tanks off of Ebay pretty cheap, and I had the same problem with seat base screws not coming out I had to drill the screws because they had rusted together. And 1 thing for sure to check is the steering wheel cable because if it breaks while you are going fast on the water it will throw you out of the boat. And if you are going to give it away I'd give it to a fishing UA-camr that doesn't have a Bass boat yet like yakpak. Lol I have my boat on my channel if you want to see it it's been a hell of a project since December.
