I've not got much further than I show in the video - I'd imagine I'd have to use another 2 or 3 balls 🤔 Depends how long you want your scarf really! Sorry I don't really have a set answer for you 😂
@@HookedbyRobin After you finish a project, like a scarf, would you please come back and comment on the yards used for what you made, and it's approximate size? To follow dye lots, I want to make sure to get enough yarn. ♥️.
@@looloolock definitely let me know how you get on! You'll probably finish your scarf much faster than I will as I'm the queen of never finishing anything 😂
I consider myself a "permanent beginner"... but this was SO easy once I watched the video a couple of times. Then I tried a sample swatch, and it all came together nicely. Tip for new crocheters who might be struggling with this: Watch on full screen to get the best view, and if it seems too fast for you, click on the little Settings gear, then click on Playback Speed, and choose a slower speed that's comfortable for you. Don't hesitate to back the video up, either. This is the beauty of "UA-cam Learning"... you can always go back, make the view bigger, and slow things down to catch up until you're comfortable and you get the hang of it. Slowing down will also let you work right along with the narrator so you get to see, hear and "do" the new skill, which reinforces it.
My mum used this stitch on a shawl for my first born 44 years ago,my daughter still has it to this day wrapped in tissue paper. I love the colour of the wool you’re using. Thank you for sharing sending love and prayers always, please keep safe xx❤️🙏🏻🇬🇧
THANK YOU, Robin! What a fun look and texture! At first I was confused as to why the rows of single crochets were being added & embedded, but then remembered it's a PUFF SHELL! So Clever & Cute!
If anyone is watching this now! Lol I had problems! I am not a fan of thick yarns! But I wanted to try this. I have painful fingers from arthritis. I kept dropping off my stitches. Ugh yep! So! Lol I decided I needed to practice something that might work for me! I kept thinking how this puff stitch reminds me of Tunisian crochet. I have one hook for Tunisian and it's a size m! Well I do have a couple skeins of super bulky. So I'm making earwarmers using a tunisian hook and bulky yarn. Lol. round one done! Thanks much for this pattern!
I was looking for a simple pattern for my daughter's scarf as I'm a beginner and dont know much...and this suddenly came in front of my eyes...It's very easy to learn from you...Very clear and perfect instructions. Thank you so much for this beautiful pattern.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have a little niece who’s obsessed with mermaids and the ocean. She turned 8 this past week and I used this pattern to make a “Seashell Blanket” (I used RedHeart in “Speckled”, an beige speckled with dark brown, and a H hook) for her and she absolutely loved it. Thank you again and please keep up the good work!
Jess Holmes It was 40”X75” (made it to fit her twin size bed) and I used 10 skeins. It was a little expensive because I had to buy that much yarn, but it was perfect for her and she was happy, so I considered it worth it.
Absolutely beautiful I'm gonna save it and hope to one day do it. I've only done a very large granny square when I was 18 and I havent touched it since and in 51 finally at the age where I can have hobbies and I started with gardening and I want to add this back into it but I'm still just a beginner but I do hope to do this beautiful pattern hopefully before I have another grandbaby so I can do a blanket for he/she lol. Thank you so much for sharing.
Robin, how absolutely creative you are!!!!!!!! 🧚♀️ Words cannot describe my fascination with and admiration of your talent and imagination!!!! Thank you again for sharing your gift with us in such clear instructions!!!!🙏😻💖
Get comfortable with the star stitch first before taking on a project with this stitch. It'll help you get the hang of carrying all the loops on your hook. I speak from experience ! The cotton yarn she used for the tutorial made the stitches look so sloppy in comparison to her scarf but don't let that put you off...Cotton yarns (4wt, clunky/kinda bulky, lower quality) are stiff and do not drape well. The variegated yarn from her project uses a premium acrylic and drapes very nicely. It's similar to Red Heart's Unforgettable. It is so soft! Note, it can be a little tricky to frog, so take your time.
Ive started this stitch. Even though it doesn't make full sense right now, it will get better. Is it just me, or does it seem that we are working this shell upside-down? I really love it, though. Thank you to the instructor and other commentators for their input. ❤
That is a beautiful pattern stitching, but I do believe I personally will wait till I am more experienced with crochet to attempt that particular stitch. I am doing my very first project ever today.
Wow that is beautiful!!! Shell stitch is one of my favs. This looks like an upgrade to a regular shell stitch and working upside down. The yarn color is BEAUTIFUL!!! 💖 THANK YOU SO MUCH!
It does start out a tad complicated but it looks it flows easy when you get into the groove of it. It's a beautiful stitch pattern. Thanks for sharing!
Very interesting manner of creating a puff shell by working in the row below. I will have to try this. Your video is very clear about the process. I have some extra Mandala yarn left over that I might try to use. I will let you know how it works out. I am in the middle of a project and want to finish it first. I just happen to come across this video. So glad I did.
Very pretty!! Think I would use this pattern as a break from other projects, for I would make a throw for my Daughters chairs in their favorite sportsteam colors. 😃😃. Thank you so much.. 🔆🔆🔆🔆
I am new to crocheting I have done a few different small projects and a blanket before. I did try this out and it seems like something I will enjoy finishing. The only problem I have so far is that the size of the shells are not consistent. But now that I have noticed, I am sure I can figure this out. Thank you for your video, I really enjoyed watching it and the it, and I found it very inspiring :)
Now I feel like trying this but with a different colour yarn for the "hidden" chains! Maybe white base yarn and then various alternating vivid colours in the hidden rows. Reckon it would show through much? Could look super cool!
Thank you so much Robin, I really really enjoyed watching you create this amazing and stunning pattern. I really really love ❤️ the pattern with the two tone yarn. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
This pattern is GORGEOUS!!! My first grandbabay will be her in Dec and I just picked crochet back up after....too many years! I'm soooo excited to make this for "her" (my wish lol)

Yes!!! You said it so well.

Great tip thank you 👌
That's such a clever way of getting around right side/wrong side issue to make all the shells the same WHILE enhancing the puff! I love it

Thank you so much Rachelle for the loveliest comment! 😍🤗
THANK YOU FOR ADDING SUBTITLES!!! You have such a wonderful finesse to your crocheting. also having accurate subtitles is always great just 😩👌 superb
You are very welcome! I have to manually add the subtitles (it takes forever and is a total pain hahah!) so it's good to hear they are useful!
The way you made two rows of chains and then crocheted over the top was so interesting to me! I've never seen a technique like that before.
Camille and her Cosmetics It is to me as well. I’m trying to figure out why it’s done that way lol ☺️
@@robinmoore7202 I assume it helps the shell 'puff' 😊
@@robinmoore7202 The "chain row" that you end up doing shells over is to make the shell puffier then the usual shell. Awesome idea.

I thought it was a space holder for row 2, but it does add to the puffiness as well!😁
