For the past 4 years Matt has put 'Completing a Half Ironman' on his list of biggest goals. But he's always put it off due to fear and procrastination. Until now, where, along with his friend Conor, he overcomes endless doubt, fear, uncertainty and lack of training to go compete head on in a race that once seemed impossible to him...all with only 30 days of training.
Special people to thank for making this episode happen:
Conor for always being down for the most insane challenges. Check out his UA-cam channel here: / @conorcastle
Rich Roll for being both an inspiration and mentor throughout this whole process. Check out his UA-cam channel here: / richroll66
Rich also has a great podcast which you can find here: itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/t...)
Gina Baski and the whole Trifit team for teaching Matt the essentials and allowing him to train in their incredible gym. Visit trifitla.com/ to train for your triathlon.
Fuji Bikes @fujibikes for supplying both Conor and Matt with their bike.
    @andreeashem for the epic cinematography
Thank you to @itsnicoyeager for lending us his drone for the day!
And of course, the organizers of the Ironman for putting together such a life-changing event and allowing us to film this experience.

This video was such an inspiration when I needed it most. Last summer my husband and I suddenly and traumatically lost our kid while hiking- an experience that threw us both into a downward spiral. I had been lacking motivation and sense of purpose. When I saw this video I immediately felt like this was something I needed to do for myself.
My training was virtually non-existent: in the last 2 months, I only ran once a week, biked every other week, and swam once a month. I only did it when I felt like it. I wanted it to be fun! Then last Wednesday, I woke up and just decided to go for it. I did an *unofficial* Half Ironman by myself, for myself, and for my kid.
I have been watching your videos for well over a year now and have loved the message and support you guys bring to your friends and community. You inspired me when I was at my lowest and I wanted you guys to know how much it has impacted me!

Yes Theory, I got hurt last year n now a paraplegic in a wheelchair, depression n drug use was out of control after this happened n needed something to stay busy with, I got into the hobby of rc cars n trucks n then started a UA-cam channel, it’s been 14 months since I’ve got into the hobby n have overcame my drug addiction n depression is gone, love sharing my passion for rc’s n making videos makes me happy, I just wanna thank u for having such a positive channel n content, I watch ur videos n see all the positive vibes n motivates me to make more videos n I’ve got a lot of people that get inspired when they see me in the videos in a wheelchair still going out n making videos. There is some things I can’t do, live get to a lot of off road spots n trails in the woods to run the rc’s but someday I’m gonna try to get the off-road wheelchair with the tank like tracks to get to more spots n make better videos, but until then I’m doing what I can n making impacts n inspired people n that feels good, u guys do this for me, again THANK YOU for making these videos

Some fire fighters like to do long distance runs in full gear to represent what their colleagues had to endure climbing the Twin Towers on 9/11 when they climbed HUNDREDS of storeys when the lifts were out in FULL GEAR in a smoke filled environment. Its an epic way to honor what those brave heroes did that day.

rewatching this.... and just now realizing I made a big YES. the yes of finally finding help, and saying yes to therapy. I haven't been feeling okay the last few months, I have been struggling with stuff in the last few years. But never really taken action with this. Being at the point of being the worst I have ever been, I finally said yes to seeking help.

I'm a psychology student, and I've been putting off seeing a therapist for years. Last year was a rough one, and I had promised myself I'd set up an appointment. I did last week, so this really struck home. Good luck. 🤞🏼

@@HerreDePerre yes! Idk if I commented this before or after my school change.... but 2y ago I did change schools, I quit my first bachelor (that I nearly finished). I came to feel real bad at that school, depressed and didn’t like it anymore, I went to a professional bachelors instead, still same subject (graphic design) and just the change of school and environment had a BIG impact on my mental state....... bc of that i did go a while without therapy bc I needed to find a new therapist in the new city......
But yeah, I’ve been doing so much better. My depressive episodes have lessened significantly!! I notice them much quicker. Also I’ve figured out so much about stuff I’ve been dealing with, my somewhat unhealthy relationship with my mother and other stuff I’ve never really....took the time to talk about, process and give a space to it.....
Also, just recently I figured out I have chronical hyperventilation due to stress and anxienty (after I told her about an episode of disassociation and me stopping breathing and constant pains in my body) (probably have had this for years but never realised so never dealt with it properly) so yeah. That’s not great, but at least I know about it now!! So yet another step of improvement!!.
My therapist has said to me I’m much brighter than I was in the beginning!! And I notice the difference myself too!!! I’m still not back to being my bubbly extroverted self...and I still don’t really interact with people enough but, it’s so much better!!

This video helped carry my motivation! In November of 2019, I signed up for Ironman Arizona 2020 to do my first full Ironman. I could barely run a mile without getting winded. I trained for a whole year, lost 20lbs, gained so much confidence, only to have every race of the year cancelled. It was hard to get back out there and continue to train, but 2021 seems hopeful. I am still training to hear the fateful words, “YOU ARE AN IRONMAN”.

Hey Yes theory, I am one of the lucky people who’s house didn’t burn down the in campfire fire but I know a lot of kids, friends, families who sadly lost everything without a warning. I went to Costco and you could not believe the amount of people crying on their phones or even asking random people if they could buy them food for them or for their whole family. I will probably not be able to buy any merchandise as I would really love to but at the time we do not have the money but I was wondering if I could be one of the lucky people you would choose to help “overcome my fear” or “help others”. Rather then over coming my fears I would really like your help to throw something together for me to be able to help the community to throw a party or something like that to bring people together and help them forget about everything. One of my biggest goals in life is to help change someone’s life or day and I would not like to do it another way but to get your help in some type of way to help me buy them clothes food and essential that are needed, like I said I am unable to buy merchandise but if it is any way possible for you to choose me I would like your help to spread awareness and help me make those in need happy. If any of you are nice enough to help me get this noticed I would really appreciated it thank you.

One thing I have gotten from watching a couple pf these videos - I am yet to complete all the videos from both channels - is that I have to INVEST in the right kind of friends. There's no shortcut if I want to go out of my comfort zone and achieve my dreams. I have to be the right person not just for myself but for the people around me, and the people around me must be the right kind of people for me. That synergy is totally important coz going out of ones comfort zone means you'll bear your soul out and the people around you need to be safe people to whom your can be vulnerable with without fear or judgement.

I love this. I have missed out on so much of my life for fear that I would not excel. Passed up many opportunities because I did not think I would be "ready." If I wasn't 110% prepared, it wasn't happening. I have started saying "yes" to so many things since I began watching your videos. Giving myself the opportunity to fail has been the best decision I have ever made.

Although i'm a guy with a weight of +- 220 lbs, i feel amazing about achieving my goal, after seeking discomfort.
Twice i've walked decent distances with a group of friends.
Once we walked a marathon starting at night with roughly 75 lbs on our back in beated shoes, barefoot or flip flops. Took us 8.5 hours to finish.
The second time we did a none stop, 45 miles with +100 lbs on our back. Took us about 19 hours and a crazy amount of mindpower.
    But the best thing was..
    - We completed it both times without any experience nor training.
Absolutely amazing documentary. It was so relatable in so many ways

this made me tear up. I just found this channel today and I'm loving it. Watching Matt and Conor finish the race made me miss running. I fell down the stairs at work 6 months ago and messed up my knee. Long story short, I haven't been able to move that well and have been in constant pain. I am finally seeing a doctor next week to look over my MRI. I can't wait for my knee to get fixed so I can maybe one day compete in something like this. ran my first ultra marathon last year. by far the hardest thing ive ever done. Loved finishing and felt so empowered. I have asthma and run so slow but managed to run it. You guys inspire me to want to go farther and to seek MORE discomfort
