  • Matt takes on one of the toughest endurance events on the entire planet, the Ironman. The Ironman consists of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile (42.20 km) run, raced in that order and without a break.

I'm a two pack per day smoker and after seeing this video I decided to quit to improve myself and start working out to eventually complete the iron man. Thank you!
Edit may/2020: Hey y'all. Wow, just wow! I didn't check my UA-cam account for a while, I'm sorry I didn't send any updates, I didn't know I was going to have so many good people cheering for me. This is truly incredible! I've read all the comments, and no, I'm not dead lol. After four months with no cigarettes and hitting the gym everyday I smoked a pack in a moment when I was under lots of stress - which made me really disappointed with myself, honestly. I started to get anxious and afraid that I was going to start smoking again cause I was really craving those cigs. So after this one pack I started to decrease slowly instead of cutting them all suddenly like I did 9 months ago. After one month I was able to stop completely. I just stoped going to the gym now cause we are all quarantined here in Egypt and gyms are closed but I keep working out everyday at home focused on complete the iron man. My goal didn't change! In this 9 months I decreased my body fat % and I've never felt so good and healthy. I hope you are all safe. You have no idea how thankful I am for all this support. I was feeling a bit down because of this quarantine thing but with you and your comments changed my mood completely. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are all incredible!

Before my father passed away he completed his final Ironman at 79 years old. Watching him do this for the last 20 years, over 700 triathlons, 45 marathons and him completing 12 ironmans, I can truly say that there are no people in the world like the Ironman and women who are crazy enough to compete. I'm a terrible biker and could never do this distance, but from the shorter and olympic distance tri's I've done, I agree that it is absolutely addicting and such an indescribable feeling crossing the line.

Why do I take everything for granted. I have no goal in life. Watching this made me realise I need to change this, I want to feel the feeling of achievement after so all the hard work. Hey Matt,
Congratulations on officially becoming an Ironman and thank you for sharing your story. As I write this I am only 12 days away from racing in a triathlon that will make or break my dreams of competing in college and was feeling unprepared and doubtful that I can do it. After seeing this I have a new sense of determination to do everything I can to push myself for the next 12 days and on that morning to achieve my goals and qualify for the USA Junior Elite Triathlon National Championship
UPDATE: The race went alright! I was a little disappointed because I didn’t qualify for nationals, but I did end up getting to talk to a few college coaches. Now those coaches have continue to show interest in taking me on as what my coach calls a “swim project” as I am not a strong swimmer but an exceptional cyclist and runner. Thank you all so much for the support!!!

“What it is, is the construct that we’ve created, our personalities is so strong that you have to do something extreme to be able to transcend that, to be able to break through those things because we’re so engrained with our personalities and we believe that’s who we are. It’s just when you do something of an extreme nature like to the extent when you’re doing an Ironman you get to transcend that. You get to see what, what sits below that surface. You get to see you actually have a choice that there’s something more than who you pretend to be and whilst we’re really attached to who we are as individuals there’s so much more to life we have that freedom of choice”

80% of them will get into the same habits and lifestyle within 3 months. But for the 20% that will actually change their lives it is worth it.
What you have to remember is that most of the homeless people are homeless because of their habits, what they feel and think. Try to change a lifetime of that in a few months.. won't happen with alot of them

I have been a runner my whole life but never did I think I was capable enough to do something as intense as this. I use to watch this video on repeat and listen to it on daily runs. It really was inspiring to me and about two years ago it helped push me to set a goal of completing an Ironman in under 12 hours just like Matt. Now, a year after finishing 11:52 in my race, I am continually setting higher and higher goals for myself inside and outside of the running world. I thought it was about time to come here and finally give recognition to some people who truly deserve it. Thank you guys for being the people you are and for inspiring me to become the best version of myself that I could be. I still watch this video from time to time when I need some extra motivation (and to remind myself that I beat Matt by a whole 6 minutes 😉). Again, thank you to all of you for being who you are and for what you do.

For the last 3-4 years i wanted to run a half-marathon but the best i could do was 12km because i wasn't training constantly. After seeing this clip i registered for a half marathon that takes place in 30 days time. I will have 30 days to train for this. Thank you "Yes Theory" for being such a source of inspiration.
Edit: I actually did it! I can't believe i actually ran a half-marathon. Thank you again Matt for inspiring me and other thousands of people!
    Next step: a full marathon!
Edit 2 (09 oct 2022): 3 years after my first half-marathon i finally ran my first marathon in under 4 hours
