I keep going back to this song on my iPod. Kate could sing a balance sheet of numbers and sell me. She loves using frettless bass on her records and I've always been a huge fan of that sound. Her brother Paddy kills (good) it.
purement addictif. Merci KATE ! Heureux d'avoir attendu 12 ans...
Great song. Kate makes me fly amongst words, musical notes, numbers and it's just sublime...Sweet Kate! Kudos for celebrating artists and scientists, and their passions. One of her best latest work with How to Be Invisible and Architect's Dream...and who can resist the the sweet lullaby Bertie...
I wonder what it would be like for her to sing this live from memory...my god, not just the number sequence but the phrasing and sustained notes , there are constant variations throughout, this is what she had in that crazy mind of hers...to express the irrational number through constantly shifting the vocal phrasing...genius!!!
"unique" is an early 17th century word derived from French via Latin. It's what we all are, but only some of us are talented, brave and dynamic enough to show it. Kate is one of the best examples of "unique", but three centuries too late to be the source. Or were you just trying to praise her?
Kate has obviously only ever done what she thinks is right, or what appeals to her artistically; a song about PI, for example! It's certainly not moon/june/spoon material. Can you appreciate how brave that is, and how risky? We need artists to take risks. When they fail, we never hear about them again, and I regret their fall. Kate has gone on doing what she wants to do, and now after some twenty years of not being in the public eye, she is reconnecting with all of us out here who value her work. Ain't it great?
amazing artist. in my eyes, she has the unique ability and confidence to be herself and be an intellectual without her songs becoming too avant-gard and un -listenable. i thank Kate Bush for enriching this world with her songs
It's like ... it's like the pulse of life runs through this song. Everything comes down to numbers, after all. Yes, I'm obsessed. Not autistic, but there's a bit of that in everyone.
Pi has been my favourite figure for years and years and years. And Kate has been one of my favourite musicians for years and years and years. And not until now have I known that the universe brought these two together. I'm happy. 3,14159265358979323643383279.
thanks for posting. The image is from the film Pi which inspired the song, it is about the sweet and gentle man. Kate has always stated that film and books are one of her greatest influences,
@Bluebuthappy182 She would never been seen dead on a show like that. She is an enigma, a unique talent not seen before or since. She never needed a show like that to come to the fore.
The digits missing from 79 to 100 probably ended up on the mixing room floor. She always tends to work on her recordings - remixing, splicing, filtering, cutting. I'm guessing she probably recorded the first 120 digits of pi but for musical reasons cut the part where she song from digit 79 to 100.
I think the fact that Kate Bush recited pi to the 78th digit then skipped to the 101st digit in this song doesn’t necessarily mean she’s somehow wrong or inaccurate. She’s an artist and this is _her_ song. I don’t think she was _trying_ to recite pi to the nth degree with absolute precision. She’s created a work of art like a painter, a poet, or a novelist does. I think she skipped the sequence in the number pi in the same way that a novelist will sometimes jump ahead to a different time period in the course of their novel, for creative, editorial, or stylistic reasons. Maybe say, to make it more poetic or maybe Kate has a deeper hidden reason for it. I don’t think the gap negatively affects the truth, beauty, or meaning of this touching creation and may actually add to it. Nobody would presume to tell Picasso how to paint or Hemingway how to write.
I have a degree in mathematics, and I like music. In this case, the song is more fun than the irrational number itself ..... and as an applied mathematician, I consider 22/7 to be close enough for folk dancing. Hell, we can leave the pursuit of perfection to those pure mathematicians, poor sods. Life's too short.
I'm 25, from Argentina, and I have only friend who knows who Kate Bush is. The funny thing is that I show her songs to all my friends, and almost all of them like 'em. (Of course, I choose the songs I show to them. I would never show 'em a song from "The Dreaming" lol)
She doesn't get anything wrong (as long as you count some "ooh"s as 0's) but she does skip passed decimals 79 to 100. This happens at 4:37 when she sing straight through "6208|8214" - the two 8's are decimals 78 and 101. She then goes on to sing until the 137th decimal, so sings 115 all up.
I was almost fascinated by this song, hearing from the simpsons math competition scene. I like this song so much. even starting to get interested in math even though I hate numbers since born.
Kate Bush continues to create. She can sing the numbers of pi and give them meaning , and add questions to them. Circles, eternity and so on are obvious. She adds a twist.
All of you who feel compelled to disrespect her AND those who feel they know what she's saying: This is Kate. None of you have a clue. Nor do I, but I love her.. Slainte.

Beautiful song.
Only Kate Bush can turn a song about numbers into a masterpiece.
She is an absolute musical genius..no one else can touch her...lyrics, voice, I love her😁
Kate is great! I adore her & her music! Lovely mellow tunes like this, move me tremendously.
What a brilliant song! I cannot say much more than, someone (Kate) has made Pi into something so amazing! I am blown away!!!!
This song could only be recorded by Kate Bush - no other artist would figure out how to put together such a piece of art.
She is the BEST!
This is great! I have not heard much of Kate Bush, but I will listen more, now.
She's the only person in the world who can sing a song with lyrics almost entirely made up from numbers. Genius.
Well, except for the Count from Sesame Street. Like the man in this song, he does love his numbers.
@@rebecca8525 hows that working out for ya ?
Great song. Kate makes me fly amongst words, musical notes, numbers and it's just sublime...Sweet Kate!
Kudos for celebrating artists and scientists, and their passions.
One of her best latest work with How to Be Invisible and Architect's Dream...and who can resist the the sweet lullaby Bertie...
this is a great example of kate singing the phonebook and i`m fascinated.
***** My thoughts exactly. I have often said I would listen to Kate singing the phone book.
i would vote for this bush.
It`s a lot more then a phonebook.!
NOT here from the Simpson. :) Kate's brilliance brought me here. Who else could sing the digits of Pi so beautifully?
ya missed a couple...
But this is sheer brilliance. Singing the digits of pi. Just bloody brilliant!
every year, THIS is the song of today! Thank you, Kate! Wouldn't be Pi Day without this
this is the autenthical way of creativity... thanks Kate from Barcelona (Spain)
I love her... The more i listen the more i love... The more i see her videos the more I think ... Oh my God, she is so beautiful!!
No--one else could make Pi sound like a love song. But then, no-one else would think to do so. Kate Bush and 'original' are synonyms.
Glad that everyone here loves the music, the numbers, and the Simpsons !!! LOL two thumbs up !!!!
Vante Vara well said sir
How lucky are we to have this women? pure genius
Making splendidly sensual art out of mathematics? Pure Kate.
Complicated & simple yet very cleaver.? Love it.
...what a number,,,what a lady,what a song,,, every thing has a number,,,xx kate is number 1 ;)
I wonder what it would be like for her to sing this live from memory...my god, not just the number sequence but the phrasing and sustained notes , there are constant variations throughout, this is what she had in that crazy mind of hers...to express the irrational number through constantly shifting the vocal phrasing...genius!!!
She doesn't really perform live, sadly. Very rare.
Totally stunning! I love this song x
This song takes me to places I've never been before...
MassMurdering Mao well said
decimal places I presume....
She is mad. She is great. She is madly great. She is a genius.
I have come back to Kate late. I have missed so much.
Life is unfair.
i have always loved this lady's work. When the word 'unique' was thought up it had to be about Kate.

Welcome to 2018 - the year everyone played it safe....
It has been a long time since the last time a song caused me shivers from head to toe
YESSSS!!!!
@Spoopy MoonCritter she is an angel* =)

It's Pi day today. So happy Pi day everybody!
Truly irrational lyric. Beautiful.
Who on Earth will make tribute to the most important number in the Universe by the tools of Art, this is talent at the highest level
This song could go on forever.
i got here because I love Kate Bush :)
Please keep playing Kate Bush, keep on writing and playing your tunes Kate Bush.
Étonnante Kate, tous tes albums sont magnifiques, vivement un concert en France, Kate, I love you for ever "song"
It's like ... it's like the pulse of life runs through this song.
Everything comes down to numbers, after all.
Yes, I'm obsessed. Not autistic, but there's a bit of that in everyone.
Crazy. I love Pi now, and Kate Bush!!!!
Kate Bush should either still be singing this in the recording booth, or she should have sung "rounded to ..." at the very end.
BoiseTriathlete lol. brilliant mate
Or fade out with the repeated phrase "more or less…'
This is the song that keeps going...
So calming
Great song, nice chorus - one of her best
I love this song and the music, but weird lyrics. Pure Kate Bush. Love it.
She sang a song about π. I love her even more than I already have done before.
Infinity & beyond - sweet & gentle man, with a deep fascination for numbers.and a complete infatuation with the calculation of Pi
great little song
and what an organ !
excellent all round
You folks do realize that Kate most likely omitted numbers from Pi so that people would talk about the song. Brilliant, I'd say. :)
Kate is brilliant!
...Pi, How to Be Invisible and and Architect's Dream are my favorites on Kate's album Aerial...and the lullaby Bertie is also so sweet.
If/when she performs this live? I can't begin to imagine. wow!
Pi has been my favourite figure for years and years and years. And Kate has been one of my favourite musicians for years and years and years. And not until now have I known that the universe brought these two together. I'm happy. 3,14159265358979323643383279.
Amazing album....Music arrangement is fantastic....this song reminds me of Peter Gabriel/The Who and Mike Oldfield mixed together!
The three and a half minutes of silence really add something to this song.
I bloody love this ❤️ I’m flyyyyyyyyinnnnnn
Fantastic song!
Only Kate could sing numbers. She's such a genius.
Amazing song.
Indeed it is!

Go Simpsons...Incredible, moving piece of music. Glad I was watching the show.
Thanks for that wonderful recent song. She said it is about the current era of where numbers are becoming more central to our lives with PDA's etc.
Wow, well there ya go. The Dreaming is my fave Kate Bush Album!
For those that touch infinity, recurrence has no friend, for all in singularity, everything does not end.
I love it when people put up the lyrics. Thank you! I must say though, this music really interfered with my math homework.
well said, she is amazing
Dude. Enjoy. Prepare to become obsessed with her various talents. She is a true top-grade multimedia artist.
I love repetition. I love this song. I always have.
love love love this song

Perhaps, during the chorus, the other numbers were recited, but couldn't be heard?

Yes Kate, we do love these numbers.
i'd have loved to see this done live, love you kate bush, i do love my numbers!
Such an original artist... who would ever think of making a song out of a mathematic symbol :D :D Finally something good bout maths :)))
I was almost fascinated by this song, hearing from the simpsons math competition scene. I like this song so much. even starting to get interested in math even though I hate numbers since born.
she is renowned, but unfortunately, many don't know why she is so well known and dont even remember her biggest hit (running up that hill)
Beauuuuuutiful xxx and explains my man xx

It's actually only an approximation of Pi (albeit a very good one, more than anyone needs), but it's superbly done nonetheless.
kate is a magical creature not of this world
just heard this song on the simpsons.. so good
It's like the music of the spheres and the notion that mathematics equal God or the spiritual. Stunning.

Who would've thought reciting a load of numbers could turn into a great song? Only KB would try it and make it work!
Completely mesmorsing 💜
And here's another Kate Bush-masterpiece.
