purement addictif. Merci KATE ! Heureux d'avoir attendu 12 ans...
It's like ... it's like the pulse of life runs through this song. Everything comes down to numbers, after all. Yes, I'm obsessed. Not autistic, but there's a bit of that in everyone.
I wonder what it would be like for her to sing this live from memory...my god, not just the number sequence but the phrasing and sustained notes , there are constant variations throughout, this is what she had in that crazy mind of hers...to express the irrational number through constantly shifting the vocal phrasing...genius!!!
"unique" is an early 17th century word derived from French via Latin. It's what we all are, but only some of us are talented, brave and dynamic enough to show it. Kate is one of the best examples of "unique", but three centuries too late to be the source. Or were you just trying to praise her?
amazing artist. in my eyes, she has the unique ability and confidence to be herself and be an intellectual without her songs becoming too avant-gard and un -listenable. i thank Kate Bush for enriching this world with her songs
@Bluebuthappy182 She would never been seen dead on a show like that. She is an enigma, a unique talent not seen before or since. She never needed a show like that to come to the fore.
Kate has obviously only ever done what she thinks is right, or what appeals to her artistically; a song about PI, for example! It's certainly not moon/june/spoon material. Can you appreciate how brave that is, and how risky? We need artists to take risks. When they fail, we never hear about them again, and I regret their fall. Kate has gone on doing what she wants to do, and now after some twenty years of not being in the public eye, she is reconnecting with all of us out here who value her work. Ain't it great?
She doesn't get anything wrong (as long as you count some "ooh"s as 0's) but she does skip passed decimals 79 to 100. This happens at 4:37 when she sing straight through "6208|8214" - the two 8's are decimals 78 and 101. She then goes on to sing until the 137th decimal, so sings 115 all up.
The digits missing from 79 to 100 probably ended up on the mixing room floor. She always tends to work on her recordings - remixing, splicing, filtering, cutting. I'm guessing she probably recorded the first 120 digits of pi but for musical reasons cut the part where she song from digit 79 to 100.
I have a degree in mathematics, and I like music. In this case, the song is more fun than the irrational number itself ..... and as an applied mathematician, I consider 22/7 to be close enough for folk dancing. Hell, we can leave the pursuit of perfection to those pure mathematicians, poor sods. Life's too short.
I think the fact that Kate Bush recited pi to the 78th digit then skipped to the 101st digit in this song doesn’t necessarily mean she’s somehow wrong or inaccurate. She’s an artist and this is _her_ song. I don’t think she was _trying_ to recite pi to the nth degree with absolute precision. She’s created a work of art like a painter, a poet, or a novelist does. I think she skipped the sequence in the number pi in the same way that a novelist will sometimes jump ahead to a different time period in the course of their novel, for creative, editorial, or stylistic reasons. Maybe say, to make it more poetic or maybe Kate has a deeper hidden reason for it. I don’t think the gap negatively affects the truth, beauty, or meaning of this touching creation and may actually add to it. Nobody would presume to tell Picasso how to paint or Hemingway how to write.
Pi has been my favourite figure for years and years and years. And Kate has been one of my favourite musicians for years and years and years. And not until now have I known that the universe brought these two together. I'm happy. 3,14159265358979323643383279.
Kate Bush continues to create. She can sing the numbers of pi and give them meaning , and add questions to them. Circles, eternity and so on are obvious. She adds a twist.
I was almost fascinated by this song, hearing from the simpsons math competition scene. I like this song so much. even starting to get interested in math even though I hate numbers since born.
All of you who feel compelled to disrespect her AND those who feel they know what she's saying: This is Kate. None of you have a clue. Nor do I, but I love her.. Slainte.
@Sunshineflower94 No problem! And for those following this correspondence, don't think we have left out complex numbers, which include both real and imaginary components. Magical stuff: totally illusory, yet with practical application in the material world. Just like Kate!
According to Wikipedia she sings pi to 137 decimal places, omitting decimals 79-100. Maybe she left 22 digits out because 22 is the top of the 22/7 fraction?
The Chinese and Japanese also put the month before the date, but they put the year at the beginning unlike Americans. I think that order (Year Month Date) is much more logical.
Ok now i think i know what is one of the biggest problems in these days, people who believe they're badass evil people, drug additcs, alcoholics, violence, sex, fake relationships and depression hmmmm that reminds me a lot of music, maybe if we had more music talking about math, science, love, peace, the universe, we would be a more advance species by far, and for good
As a musician who has suffered from depression, I have to agree with you there. I was such an arrogant, needy, self-indulgent twit at times when I was depressed, I think it was just an unhealthy coping mechanism. Still, haven't written a song about those things you mentioned yet, perhaps I ought to.
The caravan of digits that is pi does not stop at the edge of the page, but runs off the table and into the air, over the wall, a leaf, a bird's nest, the clouds, straight into the sky, through all the bloatedness and bottomlessness. Oh how short, all but mouse-like is the comet's tail!
How cool is it to have a day & a song devoted to Pi. I never knew this till my son read me an article about it on Helium.com... Just goes to show u some ppl will sing about anything & give us all just another day to go Party on/ Oh well Happy Pi Day All
I came here to counter the Russian claim that the pianist Valentina is a height in female artistic tachievement-playing a man's piece. Not her fault but Russia! This woman is as good as McCartney or Bowie!
Kate is a blessed soul way beyond evil selfish scinencapsuled egomaniac roadz. Ascending straight forward into the middle to enter the center of bliss! Mathematics is the manifestations language for the projected illusion surrounding us all every cosmic moment! The golden ratio should be teached in every school around the world. The children should have the possibilities to learn connective thinking and not only dot-listing. WORLDPEACE
She is an absolute musical genius..no one else can touch her...lyrics, voice, I love her😁
What a brilliant song! I cannot say much more than, someone (Kate) has made Pi into something so amazing! I am blown away!!!!

She's the only person in the world who can sing a song with lyrics almost entirely made up from numbers. Genius.
Well, except for the Count from Sesame Street. Like the man in this song, he does love his numbers.
@@rebecca8525 hows that working out for ya ?
It's like ... it's like the pulse of life runs through this song.
Everything comes down to numbers, after all.
Yes, I'm obsessed. Not autistic, but there's a bit of that in everyone.
How lucky are we to have this women? pure genius
This is great! I have not heard much of Kate Bush, but I will listen more, now.
Making splendidly sensual art out of mathematics? Pure Kate.
No--one else could make Pi sound like a love song. But then, no-one else would think to do so. Kate Bush and 'original' are synonyms.
i got here because I love Kate Bush :)
I wonder what it would be like for her to sing this live from memory...my god, not just the number sequence but the phrasing and sustained notes , there are constant variations throughout, this is what she had in that crazy mind of hers...to express the irrational number through constantly shifting the vocal phrasing...genius!!!
She doesn't really perform live, sadly. Very rare.
ya missed a couple...
But this is sheer brilliance. Singing the digits of pi. Just bloody brilliant!
I love her... The more i listen the more i love... The more i see her videos the more I think ... Oh my God, she is so beautiful!!
Glad that everyone here loves the music, the numbers, and the Simpsons !!! LOL two thumbs up !!!!
Vante Vara well said sir
every year, THIS is the song of today! Thank you, Kate! Wouldn't be Pi Day without this
i have always loved this lady's work. When the word 'unique' was thought up it had to be about Kate.
"unique" is an early 17th century word derived from French via Latin. It's what we all are, but only some of us are talented, brave and dynamic enough to show it. Kate is one of the best examples of "unique", but three centuries too late to be the source. Or were you just trying to praise her?
@@charcolew or are you just an arrogant wannabe
Who on Earth will make tribute to the most important number in the Universe by the tools of Art, this is talent at the highest level
It has been a long time since the last time a song caused me shivers from head to toe
YESSSS!!!!
@Spoopy MoonCritter she is an angel* =)

Call me sentimental, but when I go to heaven I wanna hear Ms. Bush sing the extended version... where she sing _every_ digit of pi
Right?!😂
Complicated & simple yet very cleaver.? Love it.
I love this song and the music, but weird lyrics. Pure Kate Bush. Love it.
It's Pi day today. So happy Pi day everybody!
Truly irrational lyric. Beautiful.
So calming
She sang a song about π. I love her even more than I already have done before.
@Bluebuthappy182 She would never been seen dead on a show like that. She is an enigma, a unique talent not seen before or since. She never needed a show like that to come to the fore.
Please keep playing Kate Bush, keep on writing and playing your tunes Kate Bush.

Welcome to 2018 - the year everyone played it safe....
She doesn't get anything wrong (as long as you count some "ooh"s as 0's) but she does skip passed decimals 79 to 100. This happens at 4:37 when she sing straight through "6208|8214" - the two 8's are decimals 78 and 101.

This song could go on forever.
excellent all round
Only Kate could sing numbers. She's such a genius.
Great song, nice chorus - one of her best
Étonnante Kate, tous tes albums sont magnifiques, vivement un concert en France, Kate, I love you for ever "song"
Crazy. I love Pi now, and Kate Bush!!!!
Kate Bush is one of a kind for sure. I listen to her music not because I like it that much but because she is such a compelling singer.
For those that touch infinity, recurrence has no friend, for all in singularity, everything does not end.
Simpsons brought me here

Same here
fart1ize amen!
Same here.. came here after Simpsons.. catchy tune
The Simpson's and Shazam brought me here lol
Amazing song.
Indeed it is!
Infinity & beyond - sweet & gentle man, with a deep fascination for numbers.and a complete infatuation with the calculation of Pi
Essa voz alimenta minha Alma

Perhaps, during the chorus, the other numbers were recited, but couldn't be heard?

And here's another Kate Bush-masterpiece.
Fantastic song!
kate is a magical creature not of this world
Amazing album....Music arrangement is fantastic....this song reminds me of Peter Gabriel/The Who and Mike Oldfield mixed together!
i love this song! so calming....
Wow, well there ya go. The Dreaming is my fave Kate Bush Album!
Go Simpsons...Incredible, moving piece of music. Glad I was watching the show.
I love it when people put up the lyrics. Thank you! I must say though, this music really interfered with my math homework.
1000 years in the future, we will find a hidden message from god in kate bush's music.
As usual, perfect!
i'd have loved to see this done live, love you kate bush, i do love my numbers!

Hi all. Who could write a song about PI. And. Make it work. Kate Bush. Another Masterpiece... Yours Cliff
Yes Kate, we do love these numbers.
Who would've thought reciting a load of numbers could turn into a great song? Only KB would try it and make it work!

Just demonstrates to the world that she could read out the phone book and it would sound sublime.
whatever ever makes you happy baby.

If i did not understand the esoteric meaning of pi this was the most craziest number i ever have heard.
It's the number which proves that God is a circle, with it's center everywhere and circumference nowhere.
Nadia Knight Totally right.
Completely mesmorsing 💜
its not a question of liking its of loving
Still as beautiful as when I first heard it after its release..get a..rush of memory endorphins....
Happy Pi Day 2023 :)
Adriano Mecio, uno de los matemáticos geniales de antes, logró una aproximación a este número con la fracción 355/113.
Very nice
i could go a pie just now , this song always makes me a bit peckish
Yep, pretty good.
❤
The song is 06:09 and video is over 9mins in length.
It starts well enough, but the lyric seems to get less significant as the song progresses.
you're totally missing the joke, either intentionally or otherwise.
You're a mere genius :-)
Whoosh!
Technically speaking, the lyrics/digits are actually getting more significant as the song progresses
Boo sir, boo. Pie day is about math - not bad jokes...
But also a golf clap because I too endorse bad math jokes.
Lol
supersong............
According to Wikipedia she sings pi to 137 decimal places, omitting decimals 79-100. Maybe she left 22 digits out because 22 is the top of the 22/7 fraction?
This is a really really good song, although a bit wacky lyrics, but its pure Kate Bush, love her.
