Hard to believe that this came out eleven years ago and I remember it when it was now I feel old
😂😂 You and me both, buddy!
thanks for the modification lesson
You are welcome!!!
I just modified my Dewalt 611 following these steps. I was a little nervous being I just bought it , but was surprised how simple it was. I didn't add the handles, but bought Dave's base plate off of Amazon. What I difference it makes!!
Thank you John, glad it's working well for you. We appreciate the business and you watching, Eric
This is for anyone interested in doing this modification to your router. This same procedure can be done without a drill press if you don't have one or have access to one. Just clamp it up the same as Dave did. You can use bar clamps if you don't have C-clamps. That's what I used and clamp it to a board. I used a board that's screwed to my table work space. You can use a standard 2 inch hole saw bit if you don't have a bi-metal bit. I used a standard wood bit. Like Dave said it's made out of pot metal and not very hard to drill through. I used a standard electric dril and just took my time with it. Drill at a slow rate of speed and everything cut just fine. Finished up with a hacksaw and hand sanded the edges with sand paper. Well that's all there is to it; if you don't have a drill press or a bi-metal bit. Special thanks to Dave for pointing us in the right direction.
+bobby russell Good tips Bobby. Thank you for the kind words.
Good Job Dave! Thank You for Sharing! You Rock!!
You're welcome Roy...
Very helpful video. I'm going to do this mod as soon as my new router arrives. Thanks.
Happy to help. Thank you for watching and all the support. Have a great weekend, Eric
Smart man!
Thank you George!!!
thanks dave, good info
I remember being sooo insulted when my Dad said my cap gun (a beloved Luger replica) was made of "pot metal" LOL
So I really want to do this with the money from my next couple of projects. Did y'all try originally just just cutting the two inch hole and not using the hacksaw? And if so what issues did you find?
Yes we did. The sawdust still didn't exhaust enough out the back for my liking. It was still throwing more of it in my face than I wanted. That's why we cut the rest out with the hack saw. Then it worked fine. Thanks for the question, Eric
Can you use a wood hole saw or does it have to be a metal hole saw. Thanks for the reply.
No problem, man. I'd definitely recommend a metal hole saw. The housing is usually aluminum, but still a good idea to use a metal one.
Great video. Is that just a regular keyhole saw for wood, or is it made for metal?
Just a 2" metal hole saw.
@@oldave100, thank you, sir.
You're welcome, Thank you...
Be careful if you use a bench vise when you modify your base, it bends VERY easily!
OK
Who needs Tap-Eze when you've got WD-40? It's a fine cutting oil. And yes, metal's not wood, you must drill or cut it much more SLOWLY.
Thank you
