    I just put the clear finish on the back. I do put my rubber stamp on the back of all my signs as well. Thank you, Eric

    That Keith & Shelly sign is the western red cedar that I get from Perfect Plank out of California. I get it from 1" thick net to sometime 2" thick net. Nice stuff just kinda pricey. Thank you for the nice compliment, Eric

      Can the sealer be sprayed over the Paint Pen application without having any runs occur with the paint Pens (once dried) ?

    Hi Chris, Thank you for the nice compliments. Yes that is cedar fencing. It's approx 5/8" thick. Dad & I just posted a new video #60 that goes into lots of details on it. Hope it helps. Thank again, Eric

    Stacy, Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this. I put it on the list to do a video on desk signs. Thanks, Eric

    Most of the time I put a 45 degree bevel on the edge of my signs. I like it a little better than the scaloping, but my dad likes the scaloping much better. Hope this helps. Thank You,
    Eric

    The first signs on this video are the light cedar. I'm sure you're talking about the Keith & Shelly sign on this video. It is the Western Red Cedar board. It's about 1" net thick & yes I do get that from Prefect Plank. Very nice material, but a bit pricey. You need to call them for prices.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks, Eric

    How thick is that cedar? Is that cedar fencing or do you buy actual cedar planks/lumber? Thanks! Looks fantastic!!!

    Great videos, so you recommend putting a clear coat before using the paint pens, is that correct?

    I am new with working with wood. I have a dremel with a flex shaft. Can you show how to write names with a dremel flex shaft and also how to add the color. I want to learn for home and pleasure time. Love your video. Thanks

      +Trina Griffy Hi Trina, I'm sorry I don't use a dremel for carving. All my carving is done with a router. You maybe able to find other youtube videos that show that. The color is applied with spray after the carving is done and then sanded off. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, Eric

    Eric,
    That Keith and Shelly sign looks pretty thick, did you attach a piece of plywood to that one as you mentioned in another video or what kind of wood is it?
    Thanks

    Back on the hunt to evolve some of my signs. What brand have you had luck with on the paint pens and where did you buy them? We have hobby lobby and micheals here but the prices seem a little high. Amazon has some options at a decent price but I don't know if I should go with water or oil based etc.
    Thank you both again for all you do!
    Adam

      @oldave100  10 років тому

      asb1583 Adam, we don't use them very much anymore but when we did I'm sure they were all oil based. We don't have any particular brand that we recommend but the ones we used were catsel-faber. Hope this helps, Eric

    Eric, do you normally paint the backs of the signs or leave them with just a clear?

    Hey Eric,
    Where do you get your Marsh Ink? I can't find any good sources online. And the rust-o-leum I'm attempting to use now is seeping in through the grains and is a huge pain to sand out, do you have any suggestions for different spray paints that I can find at Lowes or Home Depot? Thanks!

    @ Eric Rhoten, for example, how would I finish Over the paint for exterior conditions? I know about poly, epoxy, spar urethane etc. But can the paint handle a clear polyurethane over top?

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  Рік тому +1

      Hey Ryan, when we use sharpies, we can use any clear coat and it doesn't mess with the color at all. But this is an old video, now when we do color we mainly use One Shot paint and we put that on over the finish.

      @@oldave100 one shot paint, a specific variation of, and soive got my sign all carved, working on making it "broken" imperfections etc. I get that done, sand, and stain...( I thought epoxy finish but not happy with high gloss.) So it's exterior sign (Michigan) polyurethane finish ( any suggestions for a exterior finish?) everything and THEN paint? Certainly appreciate it

      @@oldave100 one shot paint over the stain and whatever finish I chose rather it's polyurethane or if you suggest something else? The one shot will adhere?

    @Olivsam, If you're buying colors or one can at a time I like Carlson Systems in Phoenix Ph.602-257-0980. They have very fast shipping and good customer service.
    If you want just black and a case at a time zorotools (dot) com is the best I've found. Zoro's part # for the black is G2770957.
    Hope this helps, Eric
